Nerd solace: in
this universe, he's died. But in a hypothesized multiverse, where every possible outcome to every possible event is actualized in its own reality, spawning alternate timelines ad infinitum, he's still doing what he do in in infinitude of parallel realities. He only lost the game of 'quantum Russian roulette' from
our perspective; from certain other POVs, he's still in the game

And from a buddhist perspective, dying isn't sad. It's part of a natural order that is basically good, so it's good in its own way. It's just another change that reminds us we're still alive, and reminds us of the opportunity to live well. Better than living forever, suffering and stagnating, growing bored with life until one wishes for death.
I hope whatever family and friends he had are well, though.
