I absolutely loved my mages twirling staffs and being so fit like the DA2 animations showed. No more "shake a wand" passive thing.

Please keep up the good work, DA2 mages are awesome!

They were better than DA:O, anyway. I could maybe do without the behind the back twirl, personally

I agree. For all the faults in the new combat, the mage especially felt so much more fun! I actually don't usually like playing mages, but my "canon" Hawke is a mage and I loved it. I still adore Origins, but I'm doing a mage Warden now and I really miss the flashy spells.

I felt they were too fast.

But one thing I really liked were the big symbols that appear over the enemy, in some form or another. I've only seen a few, because they're over so fast, but one I really like is the blue-ish hand. Kind of neat.

I, too, much prefer the mage combat style in DA2. You feel as though you're actually moving in a relatively exciting manner.

Yes, please.

In DA2, I could smash faces with my staff in close combat, Gandalf-style. That was awesome. Although, the shooting animations could be toned down a little.

I loved the mage combat moves also, but I wish we had an adjustment setting on how fast the spells went in battle.

( not saying they should do things this way)
In my mind the mages should not constantly atk, they should stay behind and cast theirs spells ( with friendly fire ) or charge theirs staves with mana and release a bolt of energy.

mages do have low Defence stats Arllekin, but I like having my mage in the front lines, the idea of a mage warrior, to me is pure awsome, I just hope in DA3, we will have the warrior mage back from origins.

A little bit reduction in autoattack speed would be nice, otherwise, yes, the da2 mages felt awesome. The animations for summoning firestorm down from the heavens, grave robbing, were pure visual treat. Also liked the projectiles and ricochets for different elemental staves. The only thing i didn't like was probably the rock armor, but i can't really complain, rocks will always look like rocks.

The mage animations were satisfying,:wizard: except when haste was cast. Then the animations were all over the place.

Still... some variety is welcomed, if that's possible... With mages shouting some spells (for the bigger ones, like firestorm or crushing prison).. That would be awesome^^

I loved the melee animations, but I thought they felt a little OTT when in ranged combat. Perhaps just get rid of the twirling? : )

You can't deny the twirling made Anders look fabulous.

DA2 had better mage combat moves, deffinatly. I`d like to see even more in DA3, though. As well as the finishing moves from DA:O coming back. They beat DA2`s exploding bodies by a mile.

I hated the DA2 mage moves. I like a cerebral mage, not an athletic one. I wanted to mod out the casting animations in DAO to make the mage even less animated than it was.

Twirling the staff around annoyed me greatly. That said, that wouldn't have bothered me at all if the staff hadn't been mandatory. If I coul;d have opted out of those animations by not weilding a staff (and just going bare-handed), I would have done that and been content.

I don't want to deprive you folks of the animations you liked. I just don't see why all mages have to do it.

They're far from mutually exclusive. Also, you're an adventurer who's constantly running places and getting shot/stabbed/slashed; not being physically fit is far less believable than being such.

DA lore doesn't allow for one to constantly shoot mana-less energy blasts out of your bare hands. That's why staves are used.

I loved it too! And the different types of magic effects - the hand for spirit magic, for example, or the corona of lightning for electricity. Loved the movements for the big AOE spells, especially as a force mage. And I loved how the staff changed to a melee weapon once enemies got close. I hope they don't regress too much with mages for DA3. :)

Yeah, mages were fun. I despised the gravity defying leaps and ridiculous moves for Warriors and Rogues though...

DA lore also doesn't require mages to shoot mana-less energy bolts.  They can, instead, cast actual spells, with or without a staff.

Given cooldown times and mana costs, it'll leave you with nothing to do in the interim.

Watching the battle for opportunities to use abilities to avoid friendly fire damage, positioning - there are all sorts of non-attack things to do in a DAO battle.

Not so much a DA2 battle.

Well not EXACTLY the same but yeah I liked it too.
