It's based on the "Hold the line" score. Mordin is often the first to kick the bucket during that segment since he's usually ranked as the squishiest. I won't go over the stats since this diagram shows it far more effectively.

Done and done. Zaeed had one of the most badass accents in the trilogy and was damn good in a firefight. Also, he had the best goodbye and Extended Cut slide out of all the ME2 squadmates. You all know the ones.

RIP Robin Sachs. He did a great job there.
