Its not just points. I play a Vanguard who rarely uses the Charge/Nova combo, and I carry an AR and SR (in 3) and get told constantly that I am "doing it wrong." I also don't care about explosions (of any kind) if they happen, cool but I don't sit there and set up and detonate over and over and over.

I am happy you don't use Charge and Nova together.

As for the weapon loadout, Viper Vanguard is one of the coolest characters in ME2.  Maybe I will have to try that in ME3 sometime.

Not a bad way to play the class.
Basically a soldier with biotic powers.

There are some really good guns to choose from.

Yeah, "soldier with biotic powers" is how I'd put. I'm just not a short range person especially when it comes to guns (thoughand ME is the only shooter I play) but I love, love, love the biotic powers so much. And I like the Vanguard class because I can handle things at any range. With Adept I feel like I have too much of the same (like shockwave and throw. They both pretty much do the same thing: toss people away), and Sentinel just doesn't really do it for me, though it is a good class. Plus with Vanguard I have ammo powers, I use incindeary ammo on everyone and cryo on my sniper rifles so if I don't one shot kill somethng its not going anywhere for me to miss again.

Always took SR as my bonus in 1 & 2.

That's just how I like it.

This is why I'm glad weapon restrictions are gone in Mass Effect 3.

You can equip any weapon you want on any class you want.

Anyway.

If you have a thread to suggest, feel free to add one.

Or if you want to add something to the discussion, fire away.

This thread about recharge times with stacking defense powers should be placed in the Sentinel section. There's some really important info here and, judging by how Tech Armor and Fortification have been changed, things are even better now.

Thanks Brad.

Man I can't believe this didn't make it to the original opening post.
I even commented on that thread.

I need to change my search parameters on BSN.
Not all threads explain what they're about in the thread title.

The cool down penalty of having two defensive powers isn't that restrictive.

You're making a small amount of difference to cool downs with two defensive powers as long as you keep your load out very light.

The Sentinel can be both a tank and a caster. Unless your goal is to break the world record for beating ME 3 in the fastest possible time, bringing a second bonus power is a good idea.

Not my personal choice. There are some quite interesting bonus powers to choose from.

There was also this thread:

"Best class for beating Insane."

Not sure if it was added.  I am actually shamelessly plugging this post with math in that thread though:

Sentinel power recharge

Now though, Tech Armor's penalty is only 50%, so in those formulas some of the 0.8's change to 0.5's and the difference is even smaller.

Thanks man.
The more the merrier.
I don't know if anyone has accessed any the list of hyperlinks on this thread, but they'll remain here should people choose to explore.

Insanity can actually be a daunting experience for new Mass Effect players who haven't played  ME 1 & 2, and are starting out at level 1. We could do a thread for class builds for level 25 (since people who start at level 1 and don't download any DLC probably won't reach a very high level).

Starting at level 1, you can reach level 60 with DLC. Without DLC, you can still reach a very high level, though I do not know the exact level you can reach. A lot depends on how much Medi-gel you use; you gain less XP when you pick up Medi-gel during missions and you have less than the maximum medi-gel available.

I would estimate you can still reach at least level 57 without DLC, which is enough to max all but one power including the class passive and Fitness. Even if you use a lot of medi-gel (and earn less XP) you could still reach high 40s at least, which is more than enough. By level 41 you can max 3 powers, the class passive and Fitness. This is enough for console players to play without pausing and is generally enough for most classes.

I actually reached level 58 with all three DLC. This includes going through the effort of fetch questing, avoiding use of medigel if possible so that I could gain experience points from picking up medigel. I also did all of the side missions (squad mate cameos and multiplayer map rip offs).

This is from starting from level 1.

Yes, you can hit 60 starting from Level 1 if you have all the DLC, as Red said.

I think without any it is around low 50's only, from level 1.  With just Ashes I was somewhere around there.  Leviathan and Omega give a lot more XP.

COMING SOON.

Citadel DLC related guides.
With the new combat arena up, there will be many threads worth mentioning.

If they're not up by the end of the month, post message me.

The Opening and First Post of this thread have become bloated.

So I've decided to dedicate a new thread to Citadel DLC.

Very useful collection, thanks. Can I suggest to move Red Ceasar 97's Puppet Master Engineer link under the engi section? It should help readers who are just interested in the build list and skip the rest of the guide. :)

Well I've added the youtube guide to the Puppet Master Enginer to the Engineer section.

As for build guides. There aren't many.

I will produce a new thread just for class builds.
This thread was about all the strategy discussions that I found useful.

But as of the moment there aren't many actual build guides.
Pity really.

Okay at the request of Cmpunker I am going to do a series of thread dedicated to what I think are optimal builds.

This would be about the highest potential dps a class can achieve at level 40.
No DLC weapons.
No bonus powers.

Well, the guide is not bad at all, the strategy discussions are very very helpful even if  they're not actual builds. You did a good job putting them all together, imo.

I have started a private discussion with three of the most prolific strategy advisors on BSN.
If you frequent the Strategy & Builds Discussion and Multiplayer Discussions of ME3 forums, you'll know who I'm talking about.

We already have builds for Adept, Engineer, Infiltrator and Vanguard. Soldier and sentinel builds to follow shortly.

These will be level 40 builds (for people who didn't play game plus, imported game or any DLC). There will also be a brief guide as to how to level your characters.

Thank you for your comments.
The up comming forum will be about providing the best possible build at level 40 without bonus powers.

There are some new Sentinel threads.

Also the level 40 builds thread is a great place to go for build guides.

There are still no in depth class guides but I don't think ME 3 needs those.
Your best bet is to have an idea of what all of Shepard's powers do, what squadmate powers do and what weapons to bring.
Then you go and experiment to find out what works best for you.

The level 40 builds thread is a good place to go if you are one of those people who want's to plan ahead.
