It's 10 bucks (though the director's cut, it says, is five bucks--don't really understand that, if anyone knows that'd be helpful).

I'll be honest, I didn't care for The Witcher in many ways. I despised the pornography, found the combat painful. I did however like the...intricacies of the plot, a lot.

So, is it worth it?

This question is more for the people who're neutral about the game--I know a certain number of folks here would encourage it regardless of price. But at this kind of deal, I'm not sure I can turn it down.

Ten dollars is what the average person spends at McDonald's per visit, sounds like a bargain to me. But then again, I haven't played the Witcher so couldn't tell you how good a game it is.

I knew next to nothing about the game, and I got it on a sale a few months ago.

I kind of like the plot, I have not played all the way to the end yet tho. Oh and the gameplay is pretty good, not great or anything. So I am most likely one of the few people who is neutral here about the game, and I would say it really is worth it at that price.

I'd pay $10 just to hang out with this guy some more.

For that much it's worth a shot I think. Not sure if it gets cheaper like that (maybe in the next Steam Sale or something else).

It has its flaws, but the good points (C&C, Story and Atmosphere) are great. For the combat, I recommend the use of Signs. Many just go straight melee and completly forget to use them which WILL bite your in the ass (especially in Act 3). It also makes battles more entertaining.

Some Quests have no Markings so you'll have to look around sometimes (the Journal gives most of the time good directions though).

Personally I dislike the UI. So maybe you'll have to fight that too.

Yes. And if you really want to understand it read the books too. A great read too, just like Game of Thrones.

For 10, sure. for me it was probably the biggest gaming dissapointment that year, the fans had hyped it out so much as the second coming of RPG, something it was not. It is a decent game though, even if Geralt is still no fun to play as (for me).

I agree.  If you read on the BSN, TW2 is the best thing ever.  In my opinion, it was average.  In fact, I never finsihed it.  Its a very involved RPG in the sense that you have to craft and make potions and then know how to use them. This can be painstaking. But, you get to see boobies, soo.....

I dislike the Witcher (can't stand Geralt and can't make my own protaganist I do like), but if you were even slightly curious about it, the price is barely worth noticing. I've paid more for games I've hated more.

No, because you clearly don't have the thick skin for it. People are turned off by the harsh world and realistic depiction of middle ages.

It's nto the middle ages moe then Dragon age is it, it's a fantasy world somewhat based on the european middle ages. Different things.

Combat changes a lot between 1 and 2, so if you didn't like the combat in TW1 that could be hopeful I guess. TW2 combat is inspired by action games like Arkham Asylum.

The story is where the game really shines IMO. It is certainly intricate. But there is nudie stuff- the very first scene, in fact- so prepare yourself. After the first scene it's all the player's choice on whether Geralt gets it on with anyone. There are one or two sexual cutscenes. I don't consider it "pornography." Not more than your average cable TV show.

As for whether you should buy it at $10, that's a no-brainer.

The first Witcher book dates of 1990 I think. There was also a Tv series of the book "The Saga of Geralt of Rivia", then some years later the videogame was made.  It is a fantasy world, and there is much more to it than what we see in the games. It's a true adult game that shows sex and combat as in the book. Geralt may be a witcher, but he doesn't come unscathed from everything thus the combat being difficult. The sex scenes are like those in Game of Thrones, and thus they show more in the game than in others like Dragon Age.

It's a really good game that catched really well the spirit of the characters, world, spirit of the book...especially since very little of the games appear in the books, but they're rather built in the timeskips of the books.

Lol. It has nothing to do with harsh depiction. But, I won't bother discussing that here.

I think Witcher 2 is an excellent game and for that price it's definitely worth a shot. Well-written charactesr, difficult decisions, and sad moments (at least I thought so). That said I did enjoy the first game as well.

No one can really tell you if you should buy it. How much did you dislike the pornography? For me, it utterly ruins the game, because I know it's only in there because immature nerd developers know that other immature nerds will get all hot and bothered over it, and then I'm taken out of the game. For you, maybe it's not that big of a deal.

I bought it but I just couldn't get into it; the graphics just seemed... grating, and the interface was unintuitive. I'll give it another try later on though.

Personally I found the sexual content in Witcher 1 gratuitous and boring; just like most porn. It sounds like I'll be doing the same with Witcher 2. I prefer more social context, as with Shani.

I don't like the UI, either.  It's consolized and in many cases not intuitive.

There is some you could call gratuitous.  There's a lesbian whipping scene I think could have been left out.  It does serve a story purpose, though, and the characters are ... um, fleshed out.  There are fewer casual sexual encounters than you can potentially have in TW1 (reminding everyone that the cards are optional, again).  Geralt can go to a brothel if you want.  Is that bad?  I view it as a roleplay opportunity, the same as when my Aeducan went to the Pearl and bedded the dwarf after Gorim dumped her.

I continue to be baffled as to why sex in Witcher games is so problematic for people.  Are you all Amish?  Do you live in giant mushrooms in a charmed forest?  This is 2013 and you see more gratuitous sex in any 5 minute slice of HBO programming than in an entire game that is full of political intrigue, mythology, social issues, and Geralt's complicated friendships and professional contacts.

Not all of us watch television--perhaps for those types of reasons--you know.

Really? What a prude. Clearly the type of person to blush at the mention of sex.

Then you're missing out on Game of Thrones because of boobs Hmmm. I have to question your sincerity.
