Yeah I liked the old DA:O combat for warriors and etc. but I really liked the DA2 combat for mages, mages in DA:O were to slow in combat for my taste. Maybe if the mixed the DA:O combat with DA2 combat could be cooler.SergeantSnookie wrote...
DA:O.
EDIT: Well, actually, DA:O for Warriors and Rogues, and DA2 for Mages. Not an option, so...DA:O.

DAO was nearly unplayable to me. I hate strategy / pause in the middle / chess like "combat". Immersion breaking to me. I'm a WoW raider and love mashing my buttons

For 2 handed warriors, DA2 was far more enjoyable than DAO (OMG, how long it took to make 1 animation and getting a "miss" 3 time out of 5... it was really pissing me off, especialy after i made my second character a rogue, a real killing machine).
For mage... mhe... i found the arcan mage of DAO so enjoyable that i couldn't had fun with any mage in DA2.

And I agree with Siegdrifa - arcane warrior, though seriously overpowered, was definitely the most entertaining class to play as in DA:O.

Was gonna say exactly the same thing. Miss the tactics and strategy of the old, but the new had some hella fun stuff. Shooting across the entire battlefield with Assassinate and Vendetta was pretty damn awesome.Kiatta wrote...
I liked both. I liked that DAO was more tactical and I liked that DA2's animations were faster, so there was no awkward shuffling, and I actually liked some of the crazy moves rogues bust out. They were fun.

One thing that worked in DA:O (that DA2 somehow lost) was if you tried using a melee attack or ability outside its normal range, the controlled party member would actually get into range and use the ability rather than comically shouting "What do you want me to do, shout at them?" or some other nonsense.
Also your controlled party member would automatically acquire another target after you killed the previous one without having to look directly at said target. In DA2, I have to swing the camera around to another target to get my character to start attacking, whereas in DA:O if someone was outside of my line of sight (say, behind me) my character would lock on and start attacking anyway. Basically I could look around the battlefield while fighting enemies at the same time.

Also, I just can't stand the mage attack animation. They're mages, not Shaolin monks. I think if you want mages to fight in melee combat then give players the option to fight like Gandalf in LotR with both sword and staff in separate hands and not a bladed staff like they're trained in Kung Fu.
Although I do appreciate that companions were now smart enough to use AoE spells and powers in battle in DA2 and not require me to constantly target things for them and have those abilities unused at times. Though I admit that I do like to manually control my companions in battle more in Origins.

I'm not saying anything that other people aren't saying in respect to their own opinions. I notice you aren't calling any of them out about it.

No, the excutions were slow and boring and they did not look cool.mickey111 wrote...
I bet that that the executions were your favourite part of DAO combat because it looked cool, nevermind the fact that the 10 seconds it took to do the move was incredibly detrimental to the odds of you winning the battle.
Ain't nothin' wrong with JRPGs.And the dw rogues in DAO could attack something like 10 times in 6 or 7 seconds, how can anybody call that slow? The two handers were slow but putting your back into a big overhead swing should take a long time, the alternative is to swing around a jRPG style comically large sword as if it were made of paper.

DA2 by a landslide! I played DA2 first, and when I went back and played DA:O it was like wading through molasses!
Yeah, I have to agree with this one.
I enjoyed DAO's combat back in its day, but I've gone back and I find the combat to be too slow. I ground my teeth every time I missed an enemy. I like that bombs are now accessible to everyone and that poisons actually last more than 30 seconds. DA2's combat needs some work, but I think we're headed in the right direction.

I also hated the fact that they removed the ability to properly place AOE spells for the PC version, they claimed it was a bug but it was never fixed.
Edited for clarity.

Wait, that's not an option. Crap. Ok then; I guess DA2. I liked the rogue animations, and that I could leap several feet to attack an opponent as opposed to strenuously plodding to him like an over loaded ox. The combat just seemed faster. Though I do think some amalgam of the 2 might be interesting.

I don't understand why you throw around the fact that you are a wow raider as if that means something in particular. Any player can become a wow raider at any time, and it isn't only button mashers that do it.
OT: DA:O combat is clearly superior to DA2 combat by any meaningful attributes at all, unless you enjoy the illusion of speed due to the absurd auto attack. Preferring DA2 combat is one thing, but actually believing DA2 combat is better would make you wrong

DA:O easy.
Btw guys, animation =/= combat. Obviously DA3's going to have improved animations, so there's really no point using that as a tip in DA2's favour, JS.
