@ INVADERONE - Thnx for the teasers then. I'd love to see Goddess soon - Godess forgive you get the open center hack (which BTW I would like to see how difficult out-in-the-middle hacks are handled!).:D

@Geek Fest - I will give the Striker TGI a try then, and report back. I do feel like it's the highest/fastest DPS solution for me.
Goddess is an excellent speed running map. All of the spawns are very easy to control and spot. I think you'll be surprised how much easier Goddess is once we get the vid out. I want to review the team's strategy soon so we can work on a good time and I can detail all of the positions and tactics for you all as I did on this one.

@Center hacks-We stand in them like men and kill all the things:D

@Striker-I would suggest using a claymore, piranha, or reegar over the striker but let me know how it goes. Even low level harriers, hurricanes, wraiths, talons etc will do.

@jkthunder: Looking at your manifest I'd go with Indra or Javelin personally.

Cant wait for the next speedrun video I'm stoked. Just finished it again with commentary. Yeah its obvious I didn't quite understand 'spawn control' but now I think I've gotten it. Bad news is obviously I'd need to make sure this is carefully coordinated with the team. We cant just run around and kill things all randomly like we normally do.

Claymore and Piranha are great options. You could get away with a sniper on bigger maps like Giant as you can hit stuff on the beam all the way from the bottom position. A weapon that deals with phantoms easily like the acolyte is a good thing to have. GPS or Falcon could work.

I feel like I would do best with a Striker, for the fastest and most consistent/sustaining high damage output, and with pretty fair accuracy at range on a TGI (and damage bonus) - with Acolyte side arm. What do ya think? Also, what would you consider the lowest rank of Harrier that would suffice (for the sake of friends who have the Harrier at various levels)?

you don't want to use the striker for something like this. based on your inventory, use the piranha, reegar, talon, wraith. take the scorpion as a sidarm to deal with phantoms and dragoons...

Yeah, it's funny there was a recent thread about how nuking spawns and not sticking 5m away from your buddies made for bad teamwork. Running with Team Arelex and doing speedruns has been the most organized, most team-oriented playing I've done in this game. Score really doesn't matter in the slightest and every piece has to be doing its job for the overarching goal to work out.

@jkthunder: Even if you do use a Striker (and I also advise against this), you still might want to consider using it on a GI or InvisiDrell. Hunter mode and Recon Mine both give you situational awareness the TGI just can't deliver. There's always something or other that escapes a spawn, or runs to hide when the team breaks after the rocketing. Anything you can do to find them more quickly will affect the time positively. A cowardly Nemesis or Phantom can ruin a good speedrun by hiding out if you don't have a way to find her.

No rocket speed runs are criminally ignored.

Bunch of scrubs nuking spawn after spawn. Meh.

They linked to two of them in the thread and Invader said he'll run a couple. This is about showing how to get the fastest time possible, which will always be with rockets.

True indeed. There's a lot more coordination and teamwork involved than most people seem to think. Everyone needs to play their positions well or it could screw up the entire run.

@ Reverend: Stragglers really are the bane of any speed run. A lone Nemesis always manages to sneak off and hide somewhere.

Just finished watching the vid, guys. Great job explaining everything Invaderone. Really impressed by how smooth Wave 7 went with the rockets. That can be a tough one, as half the trash can spawn on the beam.

Just a couple suggestions for the next vid: Maybe you could point out exactly which spawns you're blocking, just so people are aware of the areas they may have to rocket if something goes wrong.

Also, I think it would be neat if you included a wave or two of the in-game communication just to show what that sounds like when you've got a good team humming. Also, everyone should hear the abuse Bechter doles out to his minions before they consider joining sBECHTER X.

this is kind of like a meta game.

Rather then "playing", its more like solving a puzzle. Learning the spawn system, learning how to exploit it, coordinating those efforts, and timing.

I dont mean to criticize what you did, but developers should take note of this video to develop a better spawning system in order to prevent things like this from occurring.

@ INVADERONE - I totally agree and love Goddess... except center hacks (and except when spawns get messed up) - but then again, I don't love center hacks on any map!<_<

@ Bechter - Haha! Cool. I hope to see a good n' nasty center hack in one of the videos soon! (Edit: For learning purposes of course!! <3) But seriously, a center hack, or any hack for that matter, seems like the biggest time-killer objective.

And keeping in mind either Acolyte or Hurricane as a side arm (most likely the former) - Claymore... maybe, if I used GI or DAI over TGI. Reegar - not enough range for this kind of scenario for me. Piranha also a maybe on char other than TGI. TGI + Striker keeps coming to mind because I recently ran it in some golds just to test TGI with the different ARs - it pretty much made phantoms and small groups of mooks a short and sweet lolfest at better range than the other weapons - including pew-pewing stuff off the high rail on Giant. I guess I have more confidence in that combo bc of recent experiences, but then again, don't want to find myself regretting it before the end of wave 1 of a plat speed run. :P

Edit 2 - Maybe... just maybe, the Striker's reputation could be resurrected for the decent gun that it is (imo!)

@ najzere - Indra would give me not enough damage and take too much time to kill stuff for me I think. Javelin maybe (on my ecksbawks account of course), but I consider myself mediocre with it at best, especially with XBX auto aim... I generally wouldn't want to be messing around with aim/sniping too much when speed is a factor. Unless I could somehow summon Uh Cold's mad skillz.

----------------

Not meaning to hijack this thread as my own self help forum BTW. I wanted to open the discussion up for all players who have a decent but not maxed manifest, of which I think there are a lot more of us over those who are completely maxed - and I'll assume maxed players probably don't need a lot of pro tips on speed running platinum (although some surely might!)^_^

I'm not sure why you'd want to prevent it. It is like a meta game, to be sure, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's just another way to enjoy to the game.

"Solving the puzzle" is the most difficult part of any speedrun, but it's very rewarding. Finding a group that can execute the strategy to near-perfection, coordinating, and finding the rhythm are all equally rewarding. None of these are really all that simple; it just looks that way when it all comes together well.

I understand your concern that it seems exploitative, but I invite you to look at it from another perspective. This is a way to add another layer of depth and a little more life to the game. Everyone I've played with from Arelex still plays loose, unstructured games. We don't speedrun exclusively. In fact, most of the folks I play with (including the two featured in this vid) have maxed manifests, so we don't even speedrun for credits. We just do it for the challenge of coming up with and executing the strategy.

Wow... just wow.

This is surgical like efficent n serious spawn control like.. I had to watch 2x my jaw dropped! :P

I thought my little plat group 4x Piranha N7 paladin snap freeze / geth trooper flamer / geth engi heal-detonator / GI debuf heavy hitt glacier combo team versus reaper plat with 16 min runs were good...

This is just almost game breaking -- it makes me feel xtra nooby! ;(

Actually the worst objective is 4 devices. It takes atleast a full minute (hacks the same), can go sideways rather quickly, and have the worst average clean up because enemies are everywhere. Hacks on the other had have rather good cleanup because all the enemies are coming to one location.

The Indra would be a fine choice on a full damage TC character even better it if didn't suffer from hip fire damage reduction. use ext clip and high velocity barrel with AP ammo.

I agree completely with your first point, it is like a completely different sort of game. I'd be sort of bummed out if they changed the spawn system though. I've done hundreds of more conventional runs, doing things like this adds to the variety and longevity of the game.

You guys have done some pretty cool rocket free runs, would love to see you do more of those if you can pry the others away from COD.

Because no one performed a 3-rocket spawn nuke. Everyone knows that without that, you're doing it wrong.:P

Also, needs more Koreans. Not race models, but MVKs and Maids.
