My PC was too old when DA2 came out, so I picked it up only now. And I have a lot of trouble figuring out how to disable tactics and play all party characters manually.

Righty now the game is unplayable, because I'm out of control. Party members keep doing stuff without my permission, and everything happens so fast that even if I pause and give them commands individually, they start doing something stupid in a blink of an eye. In DAO I kept issuing them chains of commands in pause mode, but I don't understand how to do the same in DA2. Please tell me what I'm supposed to press to create a chain of commands. Hopefully such an option exists in DA2.

Now, maybe it does and it's done in exactly the same way as in DAO... But I forgot how I did it in DAO ^_^

To disable tactics, go to the character screen by pressing 'C', then 'tactics', and then uncheck whatever tactic you want to disable for each character. While in combat, pressing 'H' will order team members to hold position, which can come useful to keep ranged combatants at the sidelines. You can queue up a command for each character while the game is paused just like in Origins.

Thanx.

But I don't understand if it's possible to queue commands or not. If not, there's no point to the game, it wouldn't be me playing it. You say do it like in DAO, but I honestly can't remember how it was done in DAO after such a long time. I remember that it required holding down some key.

Umm, let's say you have commanded all of your team members to attack a certain enemy by right clicking on it. After that, you can just pause the game, switch to each character, click on a desired offensive talent on the toolbar, then unpause, and they will unleash mayhem. The first ten abilities in the toolbar are mapped to 1-0, if you care about shortcuts and such.

Alternatively, you can also select an ability first and then select the enemy to use the ability on, left clicking in this case.

Strange. I seem to recall that it was possible to chain commands in DAO. At least two commands!

What I mean is:

You pause, give a character a command to use a spell, then you press down some sort of button and give another command. The first command doesn't get cancelled out in that case. If you do NOT press down that button, it gets cancelled out and replaced. So as a result, the character can perform two commands in given order once you unpause.

Unfortunately, I don't find it possible to play DA2 as you suggest. Everything happens very fast. So if I give only one command per round, I don't get to give the next command in time, and as a result, characters do something unplanned. I think I'm going to give up on the game if there's no way to fix it, there's no joy in watching them perform actions without my input. :(

Hmm, I don't think Origins or DA2 allow chaining of more than one command while paused. Even if there is such a feature, I'm not aware of it. Sorry about that.

Properly set tactics for companions can come handy while playing DA2, as the combat is much more faster paced than origins. You might want to consult the guides in the forum if you are willing to invest more time into the game.
