Just defeated the dragon after being transported back to the "real world" from the Fade by the Baroness.

Seem to be stuck; can't find a way out.  Cannot proceed pass the "Veil" area near the dragon skull.

I have repaired ALL three areas where the Veil is torn and also solved the Runestone Circle puzzle.

What am I missing?  Please help!

I am not sure what exactly is the problem.

You need to fix the skull with all four bone fragments to pass that barrier, but you said you already defeated the dragon.

By the way, it is not mandatory - you leave Blackmarsh the way you came in.

I can't even get to the skull! The Veil does not allow me to proceed. I'm not sure if this is a bug or if there is something that I'm missing. I have gone back to a previous save point, when I first met Justice and played it again. Same outcome!!!

The skull should be freely accessible (in the real world). The barrier should be past the skull.

Actually, I'm on the other side of the Veil. Right after defeating the dragon, I made my way down the only trail from the scene of the battle, which leads you to the area near the skull. Again, I'm on the other side of the Veil, opposite the side o the skull.

I'd suggest you check the Blackmarsh and the quest pages and see what you did differently.

I'll do that. I just might have to redo the entire Fade section of the quest.

Redid the Fade section of the Blackmarsh quest. And still have the same outcome!!! Again repaired ALL 3 of the Veil Tears and still the Veil is present in the "real world" which prevents me from moving forward. Someone please help!

@OP - I'm afraid I don't quite understand the problem you are facing. You said you killed the dragon - 'Queen of the Blackmarsh'. That means you replaced all the bones in the skull, which destroyed the barrier near it, you went up, killed the dragon and now, the barrier has reappeared, so you can't get out. Is it?

Thanks for the inquiry. This is the current situation:

I had just finished assisting Justice defeat the Baroness and The First at the Mansion courtyard within the Fade. The entire party along with The First was then immediately transported to the "physical world" by the Baroness. After waking up, there is a dialog with Justice and he joins the party. Immediately after that, there is a cut scene where the party is attacked by the dragon then the battle begins! I don't have any chance of doing anything before the battle! I had read that I can loot the First, but I am not able to because I'm in the battle right away. You had mentioned that I would have had to "replaced all the bones in the skull, destroyed the barrier and went up". Never did any of that because I was in the battle immediately after selecting my party members.

I have a feeling that I am missing a section of the game between the part where I select party members and the battle with the dragon. Just speculation at this point since I have never completed Awakenings. I am actually attempting to redo the entire Blackmarsh quest right now. I'll update if there are any changes. Will also check for any current updates that may I have neglected to install.

*puzzled* The dragon's area should be nowhere near the location where you teleported to after coming out of the Fade. That is one strange bug you've run into there, and Awakening has quite a few of those, unfortunately. :/

After being transported back to the real world, you're supposed to backtrack to the Baroness' mansion to face her, closing tears in the Veil as you go. If the game is working as intended, the Queen of the Blackmarsh can only be faced after you kill the Baroness.

Awakening has some strange bugs. I was once randomly transported to the top of the guard's tower while passing through Amaranthine. I wasn't even working for the smugglers, but the guards attacked me anyway. Had to reload to an earlier save.

Alright! Now we are getting somewhere! So my speculation was correct. I am missing a part of the game or skipping a part of it. All the things that all if you have described in regards to activities that should be completed prior to facing the dragon I was not able to do. This is a relief, although temporary. All along I'm thinking that I did something wrong or something. Now I know that it's not me, but some bug in the game! WooHoo!

I'm hoping that by replaying the entire Blackmarsh Quest, I can avoid the "bug" this time. Will update you guys. Thanks for all the help from everyone. If anyone has any suggestions on how to bypass the bug other than what I'm currently attempting, please feel free to share.

While going through the wiki on The Lost Dragon Bones quest, found this on the bugs section:

"A possible bug may occur when one bone is replaced in the skull, after
which the hidden clue is clicked. You are transported to the dragon,
fighting and killing it as normal, after which you are trapped as the
barrier remains since not all bones have been replaced."

Don't really know if this particular bug has any connection to the bug in question in this thread, but you might want to complete The Trail of Love quest asap, before replacing any bone in the skull, just to play it safe.

Bad news! Just finished replaying the Blackmarsh quest and had the same outcome. Completed The Trail of Love but same results. Not giving up though! I'll try it a couple more times. Hopefully one of these attempts will be without a bug.

The Blackmarsh Quest is the first quest that I attempted in Awakenings. Am I suppose to do the quests is a certain order? Could that be the reason the bug is triggered? Just pondering other possible causes.

Anyway, thanks to ALL who have given their time and effort to help!!! It is much aoppreciated!

Unfortunately, Awakening is notoriously bug-ridden.

Personally, I haven't encountered any of these bugs, but it doesn't mean it'd apply to you.

The quest order shouldn't be the problem. May be this time, try not picking up any bone at all, till you return from the fade.

I'm also going to suggest not picking up any teeth or putting any teeth in the skull until AFTER you defeat the Baroness. Once you've beaten her, that main quest is essentially finished. Make sure to save, then cycle back and pick up the teeth and then put them in the skull. (You need her key to get at least one of the teeth anyway.) If the game bugs out on you again, then you can skip that quest entirely.

You don't have to do "Shadows of the Blackmarsh" first. I tend to do "Last of the Legion" first and "The Righteous Path" second because then you can make the companions from those quests into Grey Wardens.

Urgh, good luck. :( I hate having to redo entire quest arcs. It really taught me to save after every game section.

Fantastic news!!!

After following the suggestion of NOT picking up any of the dragon bones, the game proceeded normally. The game no longer warped to the Queen of the Blackmarsh battle. WooHoo!

Thanks again to ALL for the help and a special thanks to Blazomancer & thats1evildude for solving the mystery of the bug.

Also, thanks to Bioware for having this forum to allow novices such as myself a venue to ask the experts and the gaming community for assistance.

This is an interesting thread. I've been thinking about the word justice. The Dragon Age character just popped into my head. I need to think about playing Awakening again. Try to understand him abit. I should try and sort my Xbox problems first, like connecting it to the internet.

(It's all funny until someone gets shot in the leg. I honestly have no idea where that quote popped in my head from. Irrelevant.)
