@OP
In the previous thread, I mentioned that this spawn-exploitation seemed uncomfortably close to the missile glitch. I think that was a poor choice of words on my part. And I am sorry for that, as it paints you close to cheating, which was not my intent.
Although I still see it as an exploit, after having some time to think about it, and reminiscing on my own Speed Run's of Metroid Prime. I realized that much of the meta-game of Speed Running is founded upon exploitation and sequence breaking. The game is time. Some exploits take a lot of behind-the-scenes groundwork and patience to learn. Some are extremely hard to execute, and require a very deep undemanding of the game. In the end, all the exploits are subservient to gaining speed and lowering time.
From one former speed runner to another, I congratulate your deep understanding of the game's mechanics and your skillful execution.
what cha talking about willis?
I played with bryan johnson the other day and we were doing speedruns and we were doing the same thing these guys were doing just on another map.
he said it was a poor choice of words. Relax
indeed it was. he should be ashamed and banished from here for even accusing Invaderone and co of exploiting.
Exploit just means to use something to your advantage, generally in the context of leveraging hidden knowledge, a weakness, or a flaw.
INVADERONE absolutely exploits the games spawning mechanics to his advantage. But that is just simply the nature of speed running, its a meta-game of solving the puzzle of less-time, which often goes hand-in-hand with exploitation.
Calling it an 'exploit' is not inherently negative, although, my original gut reaction to seeing this exploit used to such effectiveness was more negative then positive. My mindset was fearful of the intended-game-play getting ruined by this exploit. But once I shifted my mindset to that of a speed runner, i was able to think clearer. This kind of exploit takes a lot of skill to pull off and requires a very well coordinated group. Standing in the wrong spot, or just looking the wrong direction could mess up the spawns. So in reality this exploit poses absolutely no threat to every day game play.
