Why not?

I'm a guy and I enjoy wearing women's clothes in real life. It's called being secure in my masculinity.

*only dates guys who will wear skirts when asked*

Dunvi pls.

Only reason to ever play with Sheploo.

But I like playing with Sheploo for reasons other than his butt, and actually think he IS pretty! :(

He is! I But dat mass.  I also really like Mike Meer's voice, despite Jennifer Hale being better. <3

To be honest, I chose the female Shepard in the first installment because Jenn Hale had more credits than Mark Meer (with all due respect rightly given to Mark), I listened to both voices and stayed with female Shepard. I've stuck with her since and in the past few years I've never identified with male Shepard, even in the trailers for new titles.

When the third installment came around, I was glad the team put time into recreating a female iconic Shepard, even asking the community for input on facebook. I adopted the default in ME3 and she looked good in all the sequences and conversations.

Commander Shepard is a character, and I know I'm not the character, that's a very sensible and common separation people make with the main characters they play.

I'm male, and I choose her because to me...
She is Commander Shepard.

I look at it this way. If you're going to be playing a 3rd person video game for the next 20-40 hours, you might as well be staring at an ass that looks good.

Personnaly...

I look at it this way. If you're going to be playing a 3rd person video game for the next 20-40 hours, you might as well evade yourself and take on a role you can't impersonnate in real life, like being a badass woman when you are just a normal male.

It is just about fantasy and having fun. It really is that simple.

looks cool, I'll wear it for a while.
It would impress people that do not read the posts.
I'll see some funny reactions.
Not sure I'll have my mic on.

Also guys, don't bash that guy for saying people prefer to play with an avatar of their own gender. There are studies that for example from the top of my head men prefer a male lead in TV series (though they do like a lot of chicks thrown around him xD). So, it's not such a ridiculous hyphothesis. I guess that would be a great topic for a psychology study/paper (proving or disproving it).

Interviewer: So, why do you write these strong female characters?
Joss Whedon: Because you're still asking me that question.

If you think this is something to wonder about, you're wrong. Sorry but that's genuinelly how I see it.
What does it matter if I play as a man or a woman? Does it have to have some infantile sexual "reasoning" if I choose to play a gender different from what I am in real life?

I play as a woman but I am a man.
OR
I play as a man but I am a woman.

One of those sentences is true.
Does it matter which one? Will it affect how you interact with me? Is it important? Do you think the reason I do this is because of sexuality or gender identity?
If your answer to any of those questions is "yes" then I would suggest you need to try and figure out if that response is at all in any way vaguely rational .. I would suggest it isn't.

Just go masturbate. If it takes more than 90 seconds, you're a woman.

90 seconds?
Definetely you lack the skill. Or enthusiasm.

Let's give this question some context....

Since players can play the game as either Male Shepard - OR - Female Shepard, it seems unbalanced for Bioware to ONLY offer a so-called "Best of the Best" male version banner as a reward for slogging through all those challenges.  This seems to overlook the sentiments of both male and female gamers who have a character preference.

I, and other Massively Effective Gamers have requested that Bioware add a Female Best of the Best Banner.
* See the earlier thread "Best of Best Banner"  started by ISDNGirl.

Do I prefer to see an attractive female character who kicks ass and helps save the Galaxy ?

Why.......Yes !

Because, if I'm going to be staring at some random arse for the next 60 hours, it might as well be a girl's arse. Same goes for the BotB banner, just feels too ****** to be staring into another man's eyes, especially some big grizzled warrior looking man.

What's wrong with feeling ****** in a quasi-RPG game?

It's outrageous when males use a FemShep banner!

*looks at signature*

I don't even know why one should create 127 of them.

And now a real reply: In that signature you also find a poll in which thousands voted and hundreds commented. You'll find enough reasons there as to why males like me enjoy to play FemShep.

If I had it, probably just to switch things up a bit.

As far as the whole Voice Actor debate, I think that Mark Meer does a better Paragon Shepard, while Jennifer Hale does a better Renegade Shepard. Just personal opinion.

Statistics show that people generally choose avatars that are the same sex as they are.  Now, I know that Jennifer Hale is widely considered a better voice actor than Mark Meer, but I'd be willing to bet that most of your "main" Sheps are male, just like mine is.  Sure, I have a secondary femshep but my main guy is male.

I like Jennifer Hale voice more but I still play as both. I think BotB should have a option  to flip it to Femshep for her fans like me. By the way that Statistic is wrong I have a female avatar in most games and I'm male.

There is nothing wrong with playing an avatar of the opposite sex.  I'm just saying that most people choose to play with an avatar of the same sex.  As to your question, no it really does not matter to me whether you are a man or a woman becuase

1.  I will never meet you in real life
2.  Women and men are equal, even though not all people think that way.

But if I had to guess, I would say you are probably male, since the majority of people on this forum are male.  Just playing the numbers there.

The statistics are not wrong.  Most people go with the same gender.  Not all, most.
