Also of note: IGN said "confirmed". I disagree with a lot of what they say, but when they confirm something, they are putting their reputation and sponsor dollars on the line.

In any case, for people in disbelief still, the slope for this not being true is an uphill one indeed.

Like you needed the word confirmed. You'd have been all over this if they said someone wrote it in the bathroom stall. You seem desperate to believe Xbox is going to crash and burn this generation.

They also said "sources confirmed" which is very different from "confirmed". Anonymous sources being wrong is not IGN being wrong, they can always backtrack and say the sources are usually right but this time got it wrong. They haven't put anything on the line, but they got a hell of alot of hits.

They might be right, but nothing is confirmed until it's ACTUALLY confirmed.

MS has always done things to sabotage their consoles for the sake of stopping/slowing down piracy.

For half this generation, every Xbox game disc needed 1 GB of space reserved for Anti-Piracy crap (which wasn't even effective).

With that said, there's a good chance this won't happen. It's not that the source can't be believed. It's the fact that the Durango document is over a year old. Details like that could change over time. And considering the recent backlash behind SimCity, I have some doubts about MS going this direction.

My question is why doesn't MS and Sony try to compete with used game sales instead of trying to shut them down? Go digital, have sales, make stuff cheaper after release. This is what happens on PC...

Can't speak for PS3, but there was a pretty good sale on Xbox live recently. Games were going for as little as £2.75, which was pretty good, although still not as good as Steam sales I believe. There's another one starting on the 26th of March with up to 75% off. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come, because the prices for games on there before was ridiculous.

Batman Arkham Asylum is going for like £13 used in some places, I got it for £2.75. Last time I saw Sleeping Dogs used it was still £22, I downloaded it for £8.

So when is it that we will find out what's going on with all this, I want to see if I decide to waste any money on a console and I most certainly not buy a PS4, I don't like Sony one bit, otherwise I'll just stick to my PC and not waste any time with consoles.

In other semi-confirmed rumors, Durango's CPU will function as one of the many components of Skynet and watches you while you sleep.

I'm actually kind of curious. I wonder when they will reveal the new XBOX anyways. Sony has already launched the press conference or whatever. I might also be late in knowing because I haven't been paying any attention to the XBOX.

If your all that upset about it, why not letter campaign big stores to not carry the next-gen? Infiltrate game-shops and advocate the older systems. Talk people out of the hype at your schools and work.
I doubt I'll be getting the new systems anyway becuase I just bought my first ps3 & I'm happy with what this gen is capable of. There are many games I still haven't played. I don't really like how the new systems are sounding either. If the game industry suicides themselves over these features it wont make a difference to me while I'm playing my old systems. But seriously, if what the new systems are bringing is the great evil, then why not resist and boycott them same as any other kind of issue?

So it's not confirmed, just a rumor?

I'll just add that the only reason one of my friends even played ME at all (then went on to buy the rest of the games in the trilogy) is because I loaned him my Xbox discs way back when.

It'd be funny if Stan came and ninja'd the trolls in this thread with bans.

Hey Stan, take a look, man ^^^^^

If I went over to the DA forums and did this while you kids discussed virtual banging, they'd pop me right quick for trolling. In off-topic everyone is usually pretty chill and laid-back. While opinions can get fierce, we don't resort to immature bickering quite as much. Take a gander at our Witcher 3 thread or Skyrim, Tomb Raider or others for examples.

Even though the PS4 confirmed that used games can still be used, I'm still unsure. If a developer can make false promises, and fail when the game is released.

Surely the PS4 can as well? Just saying, wait until the console is actually released and check the reviews.

I really don't like this next gen. So much to be unsure of.

Exactly. I hope courts in the United States take a peek at how this practice suits up under the U.C.C. and federal statutes.

Honestly - the courts don't care.  Every retailer of digital products (e.g. Apple, Steam) has been doing this for years.  I don't live in the US, so I don't claim to have an extensive knowledge of it's laws, but if I had to guess, I'd say that when it comes to the ownership of items, most of them are probably outdated when it comes to digitally purchased software.  Perhaps one day they'll be updated so that somebody can re-sell such objects.

The problem of course is that, if I buy a chair, then want to re-sell that chair, at the end of the day, once I've sold it, I don't have a chair anymore.  With digital products, it is incredibly easy to make copies of the item, or disable whatever copyright protection it might come with - I could 'sell' a song that I bought on iTunes 'second hand', but I'd probably still have a copy of it on my computer.

There are a number of other good reasons also at to why (currently at least) the law doesn't really support the re-sale to other individuals of digital products - maybe one day it will, but it's a great deal more complex than just blindly taking laws designed to apply to physical objects, and attaching them to digital objects.

Yeah...no. The Xbox isn't the next generation of consoles, it's just one of them.

Interesting view. Laws are structured differently here in regard to purchase contracts and ownership by individuals, but it'll definitely be something that could very well be something that happens in the future where it gets looked at more. Imo, I truly believe, legally, prevention of resale is destruction of consideration (monetary/goods or service exchange) based on how the law is stated. That would, in turn, legally nullify the purchase contract immediately. Video games is a multi-billion dollar industry...that would get the attention of Washington. I would have to delve deeper, and I'm going to soon. I'm a paralegal. My boss wouldn't be too happy if I did that at work. Where do you live, Boiny? Has it ever been challenged in general?

I may seem too caught up on this. But think about it. It's a big issue. We don't dictate how our money gets spent once these companies get it. We don't prevent it from being invested, wasted, spent, saved, or anything. We gave...our money... up when we bought the product. That would be outrageous. But the same applies to their product we buy. It's why everything and anything can be bought or sold used. TVs, cars, houses, appliances, books, CDs, absolutely everything.
