The new xbox system isn't the thing blocking games, the publishers and their online passes are, I believe, the real culprits in all of this. Many publishers are moving to have passes in their games so that you either need to buy it new and get the pass free, or buy the pass using microsoft points. There doesn't really seem to be much evidence to support the assertion that microsoft is taking a proactive stance in stopping used games from working on their system, though they aren't doing much to prevent publishers from using online passes either.
And if I were to be perfectly honest, I think most of these sites are simply trying to get more readers by playing to the growing market of gamers and online participants who feel the need to rage against the establishment, and are fanning the flames to make themselves more popular. There are some bad practices that need to be addressed in the gaming industry, but I feel articles like this serve only to distract people from seeing whose actually the ones doing this crap, but publishers who make all the money off the platforms they use.

Erm. Yes it is. Along with always online connection, lockdown on preowned games etc. Apart from every rumour, leaked info, raids by police on one person who shall not be named, and refusal by MS to answer any question on whether it wil or won't. Seems more like trying to deny and deflect and hope it goes away. That pillock on Twitter, just reaffirmed everyone's belief that it's true.
No they're not, well at least not all of them. And if you're picking up a second hand game for £10, I can still dig into my pocket for the online pass for £8.50, and still pay 50% of the RRP. Win for me.
There is no establishment. I can play Bioshock infinite, regardless of whether my internet decides to be temprimental. If what's coming on the new Xbox is true, and I doubt after this latest debacle it isn't I'm jumping ship to either PS4 or PC. It's the establishment of a new status quo, that has ruslted people's jimmies, especially after Diablo 3 and Sim City.
The sites have simply reposted what MS' creative designer said, he decided to screw himself over, so he deserves the fisting he's currently getting. And frankly the information form other people who have worked with him, from Reddit, is that he's a c*nt in life too, and got fired from Fox because he acts like this towards people in general.

I'm hearing this Orth guy may have been trolling/joking about this. But seeing the reaction thus far, it clearly wasn't a wise decision. MS has been sitting on a potential sh*tstorm (one for the ages if true) since these rumors about their next console surfaced. And if the rumors are true I'm fairly certain the higher ups at Microsoft didn't want to announce an 'Always on requirement' in this manner. Whether Adam was serious or trolling, what he tweeted publicly was certainly ill-advised.

^ I don't know anything about tech specs, but all the commentary says PS4 is a powerhouse. Forget about the always-on issue: I bet MS was caught off guard by the lofty abilities of the PS4. After the Xbox annoucement, I hope the BW developers will come on these boards to offer their opinions of both from a techy perspective.

Sony's Crap? But isn't everyone loving the PS4 right now?
Sony did just put out a patent a few months ago for an RF tagging system that would tag a game the first time it is played, so that it can only be played on the first console it is played on. This will kill rental, used and borrowed games just as effectively as the rumored Durango.
Whether Sony acts and actually puts that technology in the PS4 is up for debate, but they do have the technology, which means they have been researching doing the exact same thing.
Also we have this nice piece of work.
"
PS4 network communication is going to be based on your real name. It will also be linked with real name SNS like Facebook.
Some people may be concerned by this. Generally most games to date have been played anonymously. Personally, together with most gamers, I would not favour playing under my real name.
But you seem to believe most gaming from here on will be under a real name system, won’t that be something of a challenge for the PS4?
With online games, anonymity is the “present paradigm.” For example, when fighting online in a deathmatch, being anonymous is probably good.
But in cooperative games or those stressing communication, it’s better not to be anonymous.
For example, if you give a friend a game item as a gift. Your emotions will differ completely in that case.
Of course, we’ll respect anonymous gaming as it is now. And we’ll support play like that. You’ll be able to enjoy an intense deathmatch using a pseudonym on the PS4.
However, at the same time we want to support people playing with their real world friends.
For example, what if you were reunited with a friend you hadn’t seen since university, wouldn’t that be wonderful?"
Sorry site I got this from isn't safe for Work so no links, just a copy paste.
In China, South Korea, and now Japan net users and gamers are made to use there real names, so rather than making a dual system it will be forced in NA and EU as well. Though Sony says
"We May support custom names at a post launch date"
Laugh for Sony all you want. I'll laugh when the NEW PSN is hacked and people are having more taken than some bank account funds.
On a whole other subject we have this from S/E
“I’m Matsuda. You may have heard this at the annual general meeting, but in taking over the important duties of being CEO from Wada, I’m going to drastically re-evaluate all our businesses, projects, and assets from zero-base [wasei eigo for "without preconceptions"].
With the drastic change in the environment, I’ll be taking a fundamental look at what’s no good and needs to be reconsidered, and what to continue with.
We’ll keep in investing vigorously in what we need to go on with, but the useless stuff will be completely squeezed out.
You’ll have to wait for us to announce a more concrete plan, which will come at the upcoming discussion of our balance sheet.”
Rumor has it the company will be shifting to MMO titles for Korea and China.
Honestly gaming sucks and the only company right now I even have a little respect for is Nintendo and it seems dead set on NOT being a major player.
