PC master race?

It's not all that different from Steam really. Worked for the since 2004, and I've been okay with it for the past 6 years.

Will be sticking solely to PC after this gen comes out. Just too expensive, I can buy games far cheaper from Steam sales and I can use the money I saved to keep my PC up to date and at the same time enjoy higher quality graphics.

Would be silly to pay so much for video games and then be stuck with it forever, when you could just buy it for 1/3 or 1/2 of the price on PC and have it look better.

This will not happen. It is not up to hardware manufacturers to regulate the used games market or piracy. This responsibility falls on the game publishers and developers.

So, like Steam already does, but without any kind of competition for your business (and the super-low prices that can result) within that platform or from gamersgate, desura, gog, origin etc.

I understand that the margin is in the games, but there are a couple of important things to remember -

- first, almost nobody would have a large collection of games if every single game you bought had to be bought at full retail, probably with some of that extra crap Microsoft wants you to pay for

- second, it is not legally doable everywhere yet (at least until the American copyright lobby gets European law changed - which let's face it they mostly seem to be in charge of so that might not be long now)

What you will probably see is stuff like Steam, and *some* price reduction, but nothing like what you get on Steam.

Anyway, the answer is simple, if you don't want to be nickel-and-dimed by Microsoft or anybody else, stop guzzling down everything they fling your way. Stop buying into the DRM and the "exclusives" and the monopolistic distribution channels and the rob-you-blind DLC, the micropayment crap and everything else.

If people won't stop doing that (which they won't) - face it, it will continue and get more extreme until you are priced out of it or just pay up.

buy consoles for the multiple forms of entertainment, I buy them for the

anywhere else you're useless to me.

I have never been able to relate to the mindset that underlies this, as the delay is artificial - you are not getting something that is actually rare, just seeing other people deprived of it for a while.

Still each to their own, and thanks for the extended wait for DLC for some of my games. :D

Perhaps I missed out on some golden era of used PC games, but at least for the past ten years, pretty much any software application I've purchased came with a license activation and was completely useless second hand.

I think Adobe Creative Suite used to make an exception allowing you to resell and transfer your license, but it was rather complicated and a huge hassle.

I've never seen any used PC software or games sold at any retailers and I wouldn't trust any that might be available from eBay. I'm guessing the only reason Microsoft and Sony decided against this during the previous generation launch was because they were waiting for a certain level of residential Internet penetration in their key markets.

The only cure for this dreadful pox, is to simply not buy the next Xbox
For that is what I would do, and if thou art wise, neither shall you.

If this is true (and I'm not saying it is), I guess the 720 is a no go for me, my internet sometimes goes crap when I'm on XBOX Live.
Besides, I've already begun migrating to PC gaming.

To be fair, PC gaming is already like this - although as has been said, there is no monopoly on the distribution channel, and there is a very wide variety of games available at different prices - both of which lead to intense competition on prices as opposed to consoles - meaning there is just no way for PC gaming to make you its biatch and force you to pay massive prices for everything you buy

How is it even semi confirmed?

Semi confirmed isn't even a thing that can happen, either something is confirmed to be true or its not yet confirmed at all and is simply conjecture/in the rumor mill.

Even if it was a thing, this wouldn't qualify as semi confirmed. It's basically someone who may or may not exist, may or may not have said something.

Eh, I have no interest in the DLC exclusivity consoles seem to benefit from. I'm not talking about temporary exclusivity such as that. The mindset is there because long term exclusivity has a certain advantage to it.  Ask anyone who bought a Xbox 360 for Halo 3, a Nintendo Wii for Mario and Zelda, or a PlayStation 3 for Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid 4, God of War, blah blah blah more good games blah blah. Those are games you, most likely, won't be seeing on other consoles. It seems people are still indulging in rare gaming experiences. Unless you know something I don't know and I'll be able to pick up Little Big Planet, God of War and Metal Gear Solid on Xbox 360 soon.

I agree that the 360's exclusives were a disappointment. The only ones I cared to get even eventually got PS3 ports dwn the road. The real kicker being they came with extra stuff not in the 360 version.

I hope Xbox "Durango" isn't planning on getting a lot of customers then... I have no intention of going next-gen for a few years anyway. If this is to be the case, I wont even bother.

I have a working Xbox and PS3 already, with plenty of games. If I honestly can't stand not getting next-gen games, I'll buy a PC.

Assuming this is true, anyway.

Except that Sony just released approved a patent to do practically the same thing. RF tagging a game for the first owner so that future users of the game can't play it.

Whether or not it will make it into the PS4 is debatable, but its not like Microsoft is thinking about doing this in some kind of bubble world, where no one else is entertaining similar ideas.

I'm just going to buy the next Xbox for Halo 5 and 6. Don't give a fak about other games, not with Mass Effect, Dragon Age and indeed all of BioWare being a dead company in my eyes.

I know but maybe Sony is smart enough to realize it's a crappy Idea, and most important that it may hurt their sales. Considering Sony has seen better days in terms of profit, i see higher chances here then MS.

Then again, the Console may just cost a ****load of Money like the PS3 used to.

Latest rumor is that Kinect will be needed at all times. I don't buy that one, though.

Yeah I don't think Microsoft is THAT stupid.

On another note, are you ever gonna change the topic title to something more correct?

Microsoft talks plans for premium content production, details Xbox 360's transition to an 'entertainment console'.

No thanks.
