I gotta say it... but lets be honest.. 2012 was a crappy year for gaming. ME3 won the majority of its awards not because it was amazing but because everything else was just worse.

interesting perspective.

2012 a crappy year for gaming ... because everything was worse than ME3... top of my head, Hallo 4, Far Cry 3, AC3, Xcom, TWD, TW2 (Xbox), Borderlands 2, Dishonored etc

I wish for 2013 to be as crappy as that.

Don't forget the BG Enhanced Edition... that was just...

To be fair....and to be clear......Mass won the RPG/mmo game of the year.......Mass may well be a polished game but it can hardly be defined as an amazing RPG/mmo experience......unless my concept of an RPG/mmo has changed with out me knowing.

I have no interest in demeaning or belittling Biowares award (gratz Bioware) but I simply wouldn't turn to Mass3 for my RPG/mmo fix,it's not that type of game.

No. 2012 was a crappy year for AAA titles (aside from a couple of exceptions like XCOM: Enemy Unknown)

You just had to look in the right places. Hotline Miami, Journey, The Walking Dead, FTL, and Proteus were all brilliant.

I am a little confused, is this a deep concept, this is probably the shallowest view of the extremely complex emotion known as hate.

Subtle Humor.

Anyhow, I get how 2012 was considered weak for AAA titles. I haven't really been excited for more than a few retail titles over the course of a year since 2007. Regardless, they won what they won. I wouldn't take an awards show as a "We're Right and You're Wrong" scenario; Opinion is subjective - you still have full right to like and dislike the games of your choosing, and no one can take that away from you.

Congrats on an award well deserved, apart from Starcraft 2 I can't remember playing a game for more hours than ME3 (most of it thanks to the great MP - who'd have thought, but not to take away anything from the hours I spent with my beloved Single Player characters)

You're absolutely right. Far Cry 3, Dishonored, Journey, The Walking Dead, Assassin's Creed 3, XCOM, Halo 4, Sleeping Dongs, Kingdoms of Amalur, Borderlands 2, Spec Ops, Diablo 3 and of course Mass Effect 3... all are absolutely and utterly terrible.

Haha best typo ever!

Congrats Bioware :)

Whoops:lol:

Congrats BW! You guys know the haters on BSN will work real hard to come up with weird ways of insulting you because they love you or whatever. Anyway, please know that there's still a huge bunch of us that visit here that are super happy.

The DICE Awards used to be the IAAs...they are basically peer-reviewed awards, the closest thing to the Oscars the gaming world has.

I approve of these wins.

Congrats to Bioware. On 2012 being bad year for games, it was and wasn't. It was essentially the year this gen of games reached a point where they can't squeeze anymore out of the systems. Also many original games where downloadable rather than on disc with most shop bought games where sequels which where just more of the same. With financial crisis a lot of companies where not taking any risks so that didn't help either.

This year looks far better to me anyways with some great new titles and some old IP's being given new makeovers which aren't just superficial (alien universe games/tomb raider/BioShock).

2012 wasn't terrible ME3, Halo 4, Walking Dead and some fantastic DLC for new and older titles (Rage getting some love was good surprise)

The lengths some people go to get in just another stab at ME3 is astounding. :pinched: If you hate it so much, why are you even here?

Anyways, congrats BioWare and I'm really looking forward to the new SP and MP DLCs!:)

And Mr. Gamble, shouldn't you be in bed by now?;)

AC3 and Diablo 3 where complete horrible and complete disapointments  and ME3 while a good game is nowhere near as good as the other games you just listed.

Halo 4 and BL2 being the best games of 2012.

It is good to see BL2 though is up for alot of awards and is up for GOTY, so that's good.

I don't know about a bad year for gaming in general, but it was certainly a bad year for rpgs.

I mean, TWD was my personal "rpg of the year" and it's not even a real rpg!

you may believe it to be humourous, but there are people here who believe hate is that simple. also the wording is an appeal to ridicule fallacy in logic

why everytime I get in a debate with some one I get a lesson that opinions are subjective. Just because opinions are subjective does not mean they can't be criticised, That is the whole point.

A person can't hide behind his opinion and say "this is my opinion and its subjective hence it cannot be explored'. Its got to be defended with reason. otherwise the stating of an opinion is a brutal waste of  everyones time.

Congratulations!

ME3 and GW2 were the games I played the most from the Role-Playing/Massively Multiplayer Game of the Year nominees. It seems odd that they didn't split RPGs and MMOs into two separate categories though.

You can see all the finalists here.

Mass 3 was up against Dust: An Elysian Tale, Diablo III, Torchlight 2 and Guild Wars 2.

Interesting list:
Torchlight 2 although a solid game was never going to be in the running... Diablo 3, well enough said about that the better... Guild Wars 2 had a really B grade story and the scripts imo were really grating, hardly a AAA RPG story wise.
... Dust never heard of it. As for ME3 everything leading up and until Tim's swinging singles pad was either well done or average (VO and story was entertaining, some of it excellent). From an RPG perspective 2012 was a little poor for my tastes. However based on the competition it won on merit, so congratulations.

I do think there is something to say about this game year..
I did kind of enjoy XCOM for old times sake.
AC 3 was decent, not sure how it holds up to the Ezio tales though. Some parts of me liked the Ezio tales better, the AC3 ship battles were fun though as a minigame. I do like Assasins creed for the sneaking about and stealth terrorism. Not a bad game but not that great either.
Kingdoms of Amalur... Ummm, yeah, not perfect, kind of slow and I never really got into the story it feels like. It had some charm though.
Diablo 3, got bored with all things diable and a game mostly substatiated by loot clutter. And that's even the best part of it imo. The huge variation of loot and stuff and all that is the good part but it lacks a lot of other things imo that makes a good game.
After Farcry 2 I didn't bother with FC3.
Oh my.... Im starting to sound very negative and negative.

ME3 was good though I think the endgame in london, warasset handling, and the endings includign the conversation could have been handled better and perhaps given us things like an objective to accomplish in that turret defence at the FOB.
That end mission feelt like it was rushed, time had been spent on creating levels but then it wasn't filled with enough interesting story content and challenges. Player agency and variation to be had.
On the plus side ME3 had several moments in the game that were brilliant, though that only raises the bar for the rest of it that didn't reach that level of excellence.

Mixed fellings on me3 winning. It has it great moments but it is such a flawed game. You can see the team behind it really put their all into it so winning is great for them to be recognized by their peers so congrats.

But the games it was against in this category, yes even a blizzard game weren't that strongest none were bad but all are flawed ever with blizzard rose tinting in effect.

If only me3 had more time. I know we all wanted it and ****ed about the delay but it needed a lot more time both technically and plot/story wise so that it didn't have great moments then a low boring bits and yes to beat the dead horse god that ending, but be great all the way through.
Hindsight and bigger budgets of time and money are a great things.

But perhaps in spite of the commentary
Congrats on the win :)

I'm confused as to how they won a MMO award...
