Now that I have played all 6 of the single player classes, I feel I am in a position to give you my thoughts.
The next post is going to be very long, so I'll just give each class a rating out of 10.

Adept:          9/10
Engineer:     8/10
Vanguard:    8/10
Infiltrator:   8/10
Sentinel:      8/10
Soldier:        7/10

This is just my point of view. Feel free to disagree.
Oh and please tell me what you thought of the 6 single player classes.
:wizard:

Please note that any discussion regarding the 6 classes in the entire trilogy is on topic.
So if for example we talk about how to improve class X, it's still on topic.

Adept: (Playthrough: March 2012-April 2012)
This was my first choice in Mass Effect 2 and for me is the most fun I've had in single player.
The adept is a biotic specialist that can lift enemies into the air, throw enemies and set the battlefield alight with fancy blue explosions.

I love throwing enemies into the air and I love the various ways in wich the class can pull off biotic explosions.
That said, vanguards with reave and sentinels with lash or stasis can approximate the adept and have other powers.
This tends to be the case with hybrid classes and it certainly didn't dampen my enjoyment.

My Personal Fun Factor: 9/10

_________________________________________________________________________________________

Engineer: (Playthrough: April-May 2012)

To me the engineer is 2 separate classes rolled into one.
The engineer is an elementalist with overload, incinerate and cryo blast. Also has incendiary explosions, cryo explosions and tech bursts at its disposal.
The engineer is also a summoner/manipulator with sabotage (for AI hacking), combat drone and sentry turret.

I know this isn't the most efficient strategy, but I loved sending my combat drone and sentry turret into every battle. This combined with overloading shields and setting mooks on fire was plain fantastic.
Cryo blast didn't get much usage, and since I hadn't really thought about using sabotage for tech vulnerability or weapon backfire, I only used this power on synthetics.

This is a great class with many different builds and strategies. Definitely the most versatile of the non-hybrid classes.

Personal Fun Factor: 8/10
_________________________________________________________________________________________

Vanguard: (Playthrough May-June 2012)

I love the vanguard!

I love biotic charge and I love using pull and shockwave. Nova was rarely used in this playthrough, though having used it quite a bit in multiplayer I have grown fond of that power too.

The vanguard is three classes. An adept with pull, shockwave and nova, a psudo teleporter with biotic charge and a soldier with incendiary and cryo ammo.

This class is fast, devastating and if you don't know what you're doing, dead.

Personal Fun Factor: 8/10

_________________________________________________________________________________________

Infiltrator: (Playthrough June-July 2012)

To anyone thinking of choosing "soldier" as their class, I strongly recommend the infiltrator.

The infiltrator has the best weapon based damage per second, is the number 1 class for sniper rifles and is a fairly decent engineer with incinerate and sabotage. In addition the infiltrator has a sticky grenades (they're grenades with a tiny radius that can take ammo powers into account), disruptor and cryo ammo and tactical cloak.

Tactical Cloak is a great power for making yourself harder to see (doesn't turn you invisible), providing weapon damage bonuses, reviving team mates or running away should you become overwhelmed.

Yet another versatile class. Hybrid classes tend to be quite versatile.

Personal Fun Factor: 8/10

_________________________________________________________________________________________

Sentinel: (Playthrough January-February 2013)

I actually love the ME 3 sentinel more than the ME 2.
In ME 2, I was getting a bit frustrated with the tech armour being destroyed all the time and having to constantly re-apply it (with a really long cooldown). In ME 3, the tech armour is a sustained ability that only detonates if you manually detonate it).

As a result of the changes in tech armour, I was able to appreciate the other powers. Overload, cryo blast, warp and throw. In addition there is an interesting type of grenade that lifts enemies into the air. Gimicky but fun.

With bonus powers and weapon load outs you can turn the sentinel into a tank or a psudo adept, a psudo engineer, a soldier or a melee specialist. The sentinel has a huge variety of playstyles. Unlike most jack of all trades classes, the sentinel can actually excel in a particular area, whilst retaining its versatility.

Personal Fun Factor: 8/10

_________________________________________________________________________________________

Soldier: (Playthrough February 2013 and finished in February 2013)

Adrenaline rush is still really good despite being nerfed.
Concussive shot is useful.
The ammo powers are all useful

The soldier might have been trumped by the infiltrator, but the soldier still excels in the guns department. Combine that with their time dilation and you already have a pretty decent class.

In fact I enjoyed this class a whole lot more than I expected. I became more reliant on guns, and I used guns that I didn't even touch in previous playthroughs.

Sure the class has some major issues, but in retrospect, 6/10 was a bit harsh. I'll raise this class to a 7. If you take flare into account, easily an 8.

Personal Fun Factor: 7/10

Adept: 8/10
Engineer: 10/10 (total pwnage, and it fitted into my story of Shepard being a Spacer too, an engineer on the ship)
Vanguard: 9/10
Infiltrator: 7/10 (I always play as this now, but it wasn't as fun as adept/engineer)
Sentinel: I haven't done one I'm afraid :(
Soldier: 5/10 (I like my space magic!)

I have to say, I love powers.

I'm primarily a caster.

Soldier just isn't my cup of tea.
That said, is there anyone who actually loved soldier class?

I enjoy playing the soldier class the most; but I think it has a lot to do with the games I have played.

If I'm playing something that's not a strategy game I'm conditioned to have the weapons be how I interact with the environment in a game, powers just tend to feel to "indirect". I can see though why others prefer the classes that are more reliant on powers to deal damage; the powers in ME are great to use.

With the soldier adrenaline rush and how having three of, what I think, are the best ammo powers helps to emphasize the soldier as a weapons master. The different ammo types make it a lot more interesting. Each one is different from the others and adds, for me anyway, a unique feel to all of the weapons.

With the new changes to concussive shot the amplified version very good for allowing the soldier to get combo explosions. Creating fire explosions across the battlefield with inferno grenades, incendiary ammo and concussive shot is fun as well.

Overall using the different ammo powers in combination with adrenaline rush is a rewarding way to play the game for me.

Outside of the soldier, other classes I like are the engineer and infiltrator. The infiltrator is still fairly similar to the soldier and the tactical cloak is a great way to move around the battlefield. I don't like sticky grenades though.

The engineer is a good class to use when I want to play more of a support role in combat. The two drones, overload and cryoblast are great support powers. Like Abraham I like to use the drones in all firefights. My most used power outside of the drones was cryoblast.

Ranking the only classes I have played in ME3. I've never liked the biotic powers in the series.

Soldier: 10/10
Engineer: 8/10
Infiltrator: 7/10

I hope you enjoy your soldier playthrough Abraham. Regular frags aren't that great, the inferno variant is much better. I understand why many say the soldier is "boring". It is if simply shooting the enemy over and over is monotonous to someone.

I love the Soldier class. I just love to be able to carry all weapons at once (not a problem in ME2, unless you were another class).
In my opinion, they are better tanks than Vanguards (for their abbility of using all weapons, a problem the vanguard has).

All of this is my opinion only, based soley on how much fun I have with the classes.

Engineer - 10/10
If I have to pick a favorite, this is it. I play the Incinerate/Overload/Sabotage version, Drone and Turret gets very little use from me. I love it's ability to handle all defenses, deliver respectable direct damage, and combo like a mad man. Mix in some liberal assault rifle use and I've got everything I want in a ME class.

Adept - 9/10
The only reason this ranks lower than Engineer is that I can get slightly tired of everything I do making the same blue explosion all the time. But the Adept is crazy powerful. I miss the phsyics combos of ME2 and sending mooks flying into the sky never to come back down, but in all other regards this is the most improved class from its ME2 incarnation.

Soldier - 8/10
I love the Soldier. Sometimes I just want to shoot crap and not worry about all the bells and whistles of other classes. He's immensly strong, though probably under-rated due to all the buffs the other classes and powers got. I like to spam Incendiary Ammo with rapid-fire weapons, especially my beloved Revenant.

Sentinel - 7/10
I like him better than in ME2, but I had a lot of trouble finding a build I really enjoyed. He can just do so much and be built in so many ways. In the end, though, I pefer the powersets of the Engineer and the Adept over this guy.

Infiltrator - 5/10
Infiltrator is too good in this game. Tactical Cloak is way out of hand. He reminds me of his ME1 self, a better soldier than the Soldier and a better engineer than the Engineer. I don't enjoy him for these reasons, but in terms of power I'd call him the strongest class in the game.

Vanguard - 5/10
I don't care for the CQC playstyle or Biotic Charge so I don't find much fun with this class. Nova is a silly and uneccessary addition. I'd say he's only a slight step behind the Infiltrator in power, and only then because a bad Charge can screw you up pretty quick.

Soldier: 8/10
I like playing as a Soldier but I had to take points off for a lack of destructive powers other than Frag Grenade.

Vanguard: 9/10
Possibly my favorite class to play as in SP simply for it's destructive potential. The only class that has a unique running melee (storming while holding down the melee button).

Sentinel: 8/10
Love the Tech Armor and Lift Grenades. Overload really helped against Kai Leng and the Banshees on Priority: Earth. Not the best at anything but has great synergy. More of a "Jack-of-all-trades" class.

Engineer: 9/10
I really like this class. The Combat Drone is great for distracting and/or killing enemies. It can hack Cerberus Turrets and Atlases and the Geth to make them fight for you. Put Dominate as the bonus power and you can take control of anyone/anything (barring Banshees for whatever reason).

Infiltrator: 7/10
I like the damage bonus you get with Tac Cloak but the rest of the powers are more disruptive rather than destructive.

Adept: 9/10
Love using this clas.  Very fun with great synergy.  I still prefer the ME1 Adept though.  Much more fun.

Soldier: 8/10 - second most favourite class for me
Vanguard: 7/10 - far cry from the brilliant ME2 Vanguard
Sentinel: 8/10 - probably the most fun to play class for me
Engineer: 3/10 - slightly better than adept
Infiltrator: 6/10 - one of the better classes to play
Adept: 2/10 - boring as hell since cooldowns are super quick and you can bomb everything.

Adept: 9/10 - Very fun, love throwing people all over the place, fast recharges compencate for my crappy aim in shooters

Engineer: 10/10 - LOVE the "summons." They harrass enemies and deal decent damage while I cheap poke from another angle. Just my style of play. Didn't think that I would like this class as much as I do. All the other powers are good too, but they play too close to an adept for me to be overly impressed. I like the uniqueness of the combat drone and the sentry drone.

Vanguard: 7/10 - Fun, POWERFUL, but not nearly as versatile as the other "caster" classes. It's a good challenge for me though since it forces me to completely change my usual "duck and hide" tactics and instead get right up in the action.

Haven't played the rest. I'll give my assumed scores, based upon how I know that I like to play.

Sentinel: 8/10 - Good combination of powers, but a bit too spread on focus for my usual tastes. However, it does mean that I can choose anyone for teammates and not worry about being deficient in one area.

Infiltrator: 6/10 - I love the idea of sneaking around and killing things, but the reality in a shooter tends to be me just sucking at it (uh-hmm). I can't aim for anything, so I know that the sniper build is out, but I might do ok at the shotgun build. I like how it has some basic tech powers to help take down shields.

Soldier: 5/10 - Basic warrior build. I have never been overly impressed with them. Nothing glaringly wrong, but simple not my playstyle. I can't shoot well, so he and I were never going to mesh well in the first place. Concussion Shot is a decent ability, but soldier just really isn't my play style. Again, nothing bad, but nothing great for me either.

You had a really interesting take on the sentinel. Walking Armory and Biotic Bomber.

I started to type something last night, but it was so late I went to sleep instead.

In reverse order:

Adept - 6/10 - It is a good class, but the problem I have with it is that it doesn't seem to offer me anything that I can't do with Sentinel. Or at least out of things I would want to do. I played a Shotgun Shockwave Adept which was sort of interesting since I ignored Pull and Throw (was after my Sentinel and I did not want it to play the same), but if you play Adept in a normal way it just doesn't do it for me. Admittedly, I did have some frustration early game with the aforementioned shotgun adept, but rearranging some of the points helped a little.

Engineer - 7/10 - Really the pure classes suffer from a similar problem, which they also suffered from in ME1, in that they aren't really any better than the hybrids, and importantly the play style isn't different enough (see rants about the combo system, and weapon system homogenizing gameplay). Part of the problem is that the trademark power was just so poor. Now with the combo changes from a couple months ago I suppose a Flamethrower Turret is ok. I prefer to play Engineer as a Tech Agent of sorts, with some sort of oddball gun like the Viper and mainly Overload and Sabotage.

Sentinel - 7.5/10 - This rates higher than Engineer only because it is more versatile. However, I had my most boring playthrough of the game with this class and the memory of that made me almost want to drop it down to the bottom. You have a lot of options, but largely this class will devolve into Throw spamming if you aren't careful, and that just seemed like the same old thing over and over. It was effective, but I didn't care for it. I am also not a huge fan of the change to Tech Armor compared to ME2. Sure it was overpowered in ME2, but a lot of that was the squad cooldown reset. They could have kept detonate on shield break and tweaked the values. That said, if you finally get used to TA some fun can be had, even with manual detonation.

Vanguard - 8/10 - You can have a whole lot of fun with Vanguard, and I really like the class. BUT you have to work at it to make it fun. Reason being that the ME3 Vanguard had too much Win Sauce put into the recipe and it came out half baked. Combo system... detonate anything with Charge. Oh what if there is something else to detonate and Charge is on CD? How about this new power Nova uses the shields you just got back and can detonate any combo? We'll throw in a bunch of invulnerability frames AND let you cancel out of it whenever you want. What's that, not good enough? We'll throw in the best ammo power, which has an evolution that does absurd damage with high ROF guns. Yey! That said, I like the Vanguard in this game if you do not spec Nova, or you can do something absurd like run a No Charge Novaguard. :)

Infiltrator - 8/10 - I almost rated this class at the bottom out of spite. Depending on the day, I don't know which class is really more powerful, Vanguard or Infiltrator. But it is probably Infiltrator. Which is interesting. The class was great in ME1, but it was massively overrated in ME2. Vanilla infiltrator was ok in that game, but it had some significant flaws. For whatever reason, Bioware made sure there wasn't any question about it in this game. Infiltrator is a better Soldier and better Engineer at the same time. Tac Cloak is just obscene with the damage bonuses to Power and Weapons at the same time, along with the min CD. And the icing on the cake is that Marksman works under it. Just crazy. Shield gate sort of screws over the old sniper infiltrator though. That's about the only thing that does. Grab a shotgun or the Black Widow. Or an SMG. Or an AR. Go to town. I have played this class the second most in SP though, but usually I handicap it in one way or the other.

SOLDIER - 8.5/10 - The first class I played in Mass Effect was a Soldier. The first class I played in Mass Effect 2 was a Soldier. The first class I played in Mass Effect 3 was a Soldier... This has been my favorite class and will remain that way. This is despite the fact that Soldier at release was whonky and not all that great. The saving grace was Incendiary Explosive Burst, although you could get that on a Vanguard. No great way to combo, except maybe Frags or a bonus power. You could easily Tech Burst spam with CS I suppose. Adrenaline Rush was screwed up, weight capacity was low, and really it was a dark day to be a Soldier when nearly every other class had all these shiny powers. The change to Fire Explosions did help the class out. The downside is that it is almost better to Amplified Concussive Shot spam than to actually fire some guns against armor. But you can still pretend to be a weapon master soldier, and you can be effective enough to beat the game. Or you can throw on a Punisher or Harrier and it will almost feel like the good old days of ME2 Adrenaline Rush. Of course, if I had been in charge of Soldier's development the character would have come out different, but with the current incarnation you can get through the game and have fun.

Sounds like you feel about like I do.

It's funny, I enjoy the Infiltrator in ME1, even though he makes the Engineer pretty much obsolete. In 3 he nearly does the same but it bothers me a lot more, to the point that I've got no interest in even playing the Infiltrator anymore.

I think it was in a good place in ME2, a good mix of Soldier and Engineer but not better than either. Tac Cloak was fun and versatile and gave him his own playstyle. Now, it's too easy to just use Cloak as a plain old damage booster, and the level lay-out doesn't encourage tactical moving like ME2 did, IMO.

Infiltrator is still a fun class, but if you seriously "max - min" him and go with the ultimate infiltrator build, it probably would not be all that fun. It would probably entail the Punisher and Harrier, maybe the Piranha, and perhaps Vega with Incendiary Squad/Headshot/Explosive Burst.

My post about him is probably a little unusual in that I rate him fairly high, but the first part makes it sound like I don't like the class. It is really just I don't like a few things about the Infiltrator and think it overall has bad class design, just like the Vanguard, even if I still like playing them. Or rather, a power or two are designed poorly, which affects other powers and the whole experience, which you can avoid if you want to.

I guess that every class can be made more interesting (mostly by requiring you to plan ahead more) by focusing on melee. Most people don't think of an adept or engineer as melee-oriented, but it's perfectly doable and forces some out-of-the-box thinking, as long as you're able to fight of the temptation of combo-exploding everything to death. Both classes have powers that are perfect for setting up melee kills and at the same time are squishy with no panic buttons - it's the apogeum of high risk and high reward.

Ah, just ME3? I found the difference bewteen classes most marked comparing ME to ME2.

However in order of preference for ME3:

Engineer...it just never gets old.
Vanguard.
Infiltrator (shotgun).
Adept.
Sentinel.
Soldier.

Engineer: 9/10. My favorite class in ME2 and ME3. Very versatile. Drone, turret, elemental tech bursts, Sabotage, etc...

Adept: 9/10. I'm tempted to say 10/10 solely on biotic explosions. However the spammy-spam gets old, in my opinion.

Sentinel: 8/10. Similar to Adept in that you just spam Warp and Throw and walk through the game. I don't like how Tech Armor works in ME3, I was one who preferred the explosion when TA was depleted.

Vanguard: 8/10. This might not be a fair score to Vanguard since I never finished my Vanguard playthrough. Compared to ME2 Vanguard, the ME3 version just felt... off.

Infiltrator: I haven't played. I'm not very good at using sniper rifles and to use any other weapon seems "wrong" to me. I know shotgun Infiltrators are godly; I may make a run with one sometime.

Soldier: My first character in Mass Effect. Haven't touched it since.

I see we think alike.  My top two favorite classes in ME3 are the Vanguard and the Engineer.  Ironically enough, when I did my Insanity playthrough with my second Vanguard (first ME1 import. First playthrough with it), I mostly went for setting off Biotic Explosions (Liara setting down Singularity, or Warp, Kaiden using Reave, or me using Pull) with Flare.  I haven't tried an Adept in ME3 yet (actually that's the only class I haven't beaten any of the games with) but I want to put Flare as the bonus power and lay down my own Singularities so I don't have to rely on my squadmates for source powers.

ranking from 0-10
Mass Effect:
Soldier//9: A tank, the soldier can use all weapons and heavy armor. Overall a good class (especially for newcomers).
Adept//10: Okay: Get the Shotgun talent bonus with: A HMWSG, and the High Explosive Rounds (and a hyper rail if you're playing on a PC), now become a Bastion with maxed out Stasis and Barrier. Now you are tank that can kill pretty much anything with one hit (including the final boss).
Engineer//8: Having to not have to rely on squadmates for electonics/decryption is AMAZING
Sentinel//NA: Never used :/
Vanguard//8: Fun, thats all i really have to say.
Infiltrator//7: Snipers suck, 99% of the time you're too close to be able to have to use them.

Mass Effect 2:
Soldier//9: An all around fun class, adrenaline rush is awesome and the revanant is rape incarnate.
Adept//9: Same as above, a fun and balanced class. Makes a perfect match for grunt/garrus
Engineer//8: Not as useful as in ME1, but still really fun thanks to A.I Hack/Dominate/Drone combo
Sentinel//10: A personal favorite, the sentinel is a debuffing tank. Fun to use on insanity.
Vanguard//10: Basically I find that the Sentinel and Vanguard are the only two classes that you can play aggressively with on Insanity. It's high risk/reward playstyle is addicting to play with.
Infiltrator//9: Great, but a little too passive for my taste.

Mass Effect 3:
Soldier//6: Since each class can have any weapon/set of armor now, the soldier is kind of pointless.
Adept//8: Although I still enjoyed playing as an adept, I noticed the orgy of powers it has (making the bonus powers redundant).
Engineer//8: Because of addition of dominate and the turret, the engineer is awesome to play as on harder difficulties.
Sentinel//7: I feel as though the sentinel isn't as much of a tanking badass this time around.
Vanguard//8: Nova took away the high risk/reward thing it had going on before, is easy to use on even Insanity.
Infiltrator//10: A perfect balance of difficulty, the powers are innovative but no overpowered.

Best Combat//ME2: In retrospect Mass Effect 2 was just perfectly balanced. Though it had too few guns to select from.
Worst Combat//ME3: Yep, although it added a ****load of guns and an awesome weight system, there were too many problems for me: Grenades shouldn't have been made a power-instead they should have been universal with each class' class power changing it's effects, all weapons shouldn't have been universal, tech armor shouldn't of changed, most bonus powers are useless, nova is too good, the Incisor sucks now, and many more things that I don't feel like writing down.

I don't get why people like weapons restrictions on classes.

I would rather have gun related classes being more potent in use of weapons rather than not having the option to pick the gun I want with the class I want.

Maybe they're RPG traditionalists and think casters should be restricted to light weapons. Or maybe they think it gives each class more of a defined role. Or maybe they're afraid of the situation we have with the Soldier now, where the "weapons" class isn't that much better than a caster with the same gun. Who knows?

I'm neutral to the whole thing really. Restrictions never bothered me because each class always had useable guns. I don't think any of them ever suffered because of not starting with an AR or SR. Bonus weapons/talents made it even less of an issue. Neither does every class having all weapons bother me, except that I wish the Soldier had more of an edge, like stability built into his passive and/or more weapon damage bonuses.

Vanguard: 10 - Most destructive class. A vanguard Shep doesn't need to fear anything.
Sentinel: 9 - I really like his mix of biotics and tech powers.
Infiltrator: 8.5 - Predator mode...hehe
Adept: 8 - good.
Engineer: 8 - nice class too
Soldier: 7 - Too limited for my taste.

I don't get why people like weapons restrictions on classes.

Solution without re-introducing weapon restrictions.
Make the soldier deal even more weapon damage, buff it's time dilaiton and give the soldier greater stability.

Personally I don't even think more time dilation is needed. Just damage/stability.

And more weight capacity, for those who like a lot of guns strapped to them. Not my style but I'd like to see it for those who play that way.
