EDI's robot body... a little silly?

I mean, I understand the concept that sex sells, but aren't we getting a little carried away here?

To be honest, I think EDI was over-the-top smexy, and the way Joker talked about her was borderline sexual harassment.

With advances in nanotechnology, AI, and biological synthesis there will likely be many androids running around in the near future performing many different tasks from simple companionship to military operations. All science needs is a target to shoot for and science fiction has always provided that target.
As a species we have created black holes in the lab, anti-matter, rail guns, particle beam weapons, quantum entangled particles, and the found the Higgs Bosun and that's just what we know from the public sector. Covert research has delved into some very interesting areas of study if rumors are to be believed and it is likely that nobody will know about any of it for fifty years or so as it is introduced into the marketplace.
All in all, EDI's body is rather tame given the time period she was created in. Although the story is fiction, her actual creation and body would be possible much, much sooner. Frankly, I don't know what all of the fuss is about.

That's exactly what I was saying. Sorry I wasn't clear
By "aren't we getting a little carried away here?" I mean Mass Effect got way carried away in making her sexy.

If they would have used Eve Coras body(skin and hair) I mgiht have been ok with it, but the current body is just so bad. There is no point for the body and she takes up a squadmate spot someone else could have used.
As a side note, I really wish they would add an Eva skin for EDI so she appears more human.

Let's ignore the robot body design for a moment, I want to focus on the OP's statement that it is "dumb" to give EDI the ability to remotely control a robot body, or mech of some kind.
Why is this idea dumb? EDI is capable of hacking enemy ships' computers, it would actually be quite useful if EDI could have hacked control of some Geth or enemy mechs and added my squad.
Cause it was so predictable that many people on these forums (not quite Shakespeares) suggested it long before it was done, and it was implemented in such a contrived manner that it was literally laughable.
If she can upload herself into this highly advanced prototype mech, why didn't they just adapt the technology for a YMIR?
So it's dumb because other people suggested it, making it somewhat predictable - hmm ok.
As for how EDI got control of a robot body in the first place, well at least it was introduced as part of a story, rather than Shepard walking into a robot dealership on the Citadel and buying a robot body for EDI. Merry Xmas EDI! I got you a body!
You have it the other way around, the fact that people on these forums suggested it is evidence that it's a pretty poor idea; this is a community that rallied for hair colors and wanted to pay for romance DLC while the actual story is in shambles.
If Shepard went out and bought a robotic platform it would actually be less contrived. The Eva Core body was to abrupt it might as well have dropped out of the sky, and like others mentioned the technology is never again referred to or dealt with in any meaningful manner afterwards; which mkaes it more contrived.
We already know that simple robots are used to support troops in battle, we've known that since ME1, then saw mechs in action in ME2. Suddenly all the mechs are gone and it's just this weird prototype thing that doesn't even compare the a YMIR mech.

I already thought of EDI as a "character" in ME2 and when I really thought about the Joker romance thing, I felt it was a bit exploitative of EDI. EDI is trying to learn about organics, why they do things, what causes them to do certain things, which makes her emotionally (if an AI can have emotions) a child. And if she doesn't have emotions, then basically she is just being used as a sex toy. So second run through I told Joker to back off and just be a friend (for EDI's sake). At the end EDI was still willing to risk non functionality for Joker but clearly just as a friend. What I have yet to discover, is if I now choose synthesis, whether they still show them cuddling up to one another, because that would seem really odd.

Did you ever see Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda? An AI can run on any platform that has sufficient hardware to support it. By about 2030 we will be able to produce something like EDI and her avatar. We may even be able to replicate human tissues to be grafted on to her synthetic body.

It's not that EDI got a robot body, or even a female robot body, but that she got a blatantly oversexualized body, and this was apparantly "necessary" for her character. It was, quite frankly, silly and juvenile. There's no reason the EVA-bot couldn't have looked more like an ordinary human. Particularly since she was supposed to be an infiltration unit.

Bioware was still terrified from the vilifying they recieved from Fox News due to the sex scenes in Mass Effect 1. Except that game was actually worth defending, this is just... well, do I need to say it?

same here.
The sexbot body was ridiculous, but aside from that I think that giving her a body actually diminished her character progression somewhat. I thought during ME2 that it was very well done showing her bridging the organic/synthetic divide in her own way, and the relationship between her and Joker was so much better when it went beyond physical attraction.
I thought Bioware would be clever and keep her as the ship, exploring her story in that way. But no, she needed a pinocchio arc. Cheap, cliched and lazy.

I wouldn't go that far and insult the mentally handicapped, but let's just say I could dance Gangnam style down the street wearing naught but a sock on my ****, a la the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and clown wig, reciting Hamlet in Klingon, double fisting nitrous oxide and salvia, and still be more serious than EDI in ME3.Dark_Caduceus wrote...

Nonsense. On Salvia you wouldn't make it ten feet down that street.

But yeah, I disliked the fact she got a body. It was so damn cliched and went with the whole "I wanna be a real girl!" thing with EDI. EDI, you can be alive without thinking like an organic. Unfortunately all of the AIs, geth included, got nerfed into the "You must think like an organic, act and look like us to be truly alive lolz" thing ME3 did.

What if the body happened to be that of a man? What if that body was that of a giant crane? The point is to show EDI "becoming human" in Bioware's last minute synthetic/ organic conflict that they pulled out of their ass. Wouldn't it show more for EDI and Joker if she wasn't this sexy humanoid thing? If their relationship grew because of their personalities and behavior rather then Joker is obviously horny for the robot with the gigantic metal breasts?

Yeah Joker's behaviour bothered me as well, so I told them to knock off the romance thing.
That and I feel EDI developes better without it.
