Mostly giving random name... exept for my most favorits kits where i take time to creat a very specific name with reference.

In case of my Geth Infiltrator, i named him Unibis.
A mix of Unit ( does this unit have a soul ?) and "bis" wich is the word in my language we use to indicate a duplication of something that could be many (for exemple A and A-bis, both are exacly the same, A-bis being an exact copy of A), like Legion said "we are all Geths ".

The sound of it is not far from Anubis (Egyptian god), which is good because if you ignore the hears, the round neck and long face is rougly the same shape as Geths long round neck.

So, here you are, Unibis, a composite name making sens when related to geths only with a remanent of a mythological figure that carry some physical aspect of it; wich is revelant to Legion's name being also a remanent of divine writting because of his Geths specal plateform.

I use words or names from different languages. Some are Greek like Xenos, Argos and Chaos. Some are Roman like Brutus and Gaius, etc.
Onomatopoeia works out nicely for the Vorcha - like Snarl, Growl and Bark.
And one Batarian is called Pumpkin cause he was in a pack I got on Halloween.

Sometimes I give them racially accurate names (often nodding to SP) like Shalia my AV or Kasuga my N7 Fury, while others suggest builds like Sub-zero my N7 Paladin or Cassius my melee build GI.

I name them after real Mass Effect Characters like Tali, Jack, Kasumi, Nihlus, Wrex, even Kal Reegar! The ones that don't fit I usually give them cool sounding "code names" like Yellow Jacket, Ajax, The Hammer, Cannonball.

Except Krogan. They are all pink and have female named: Penelope, Beatrice, and Olga

 For characters I don't care about i just put a single letter/number.

For the ones I think are cool/ play often I give them a backstory of varying quiality and complexity and name them with either a good sounding full name (some of which are references to real people) or a nickname which they aquire as part of said backstory.

All my Batarians have jerk in their name. For instance, the adept is Biotic Jerk, the Sentinel is Tech jerk, the Soldier is just jerk and the vanguard is Brofist jerk.

All my Turians have latin names. Except for the Havoc. He is named Mentlegen.

Al Quarians have the usual X vas X name.

All Vorcha are named after what they say. I AM ALIVE and so on.

Humans are named from TF2 memes. Mostly including pootis.

Asari....I don't give a damn about Asari. They are annoying. Except for the Justicar, Sahira.

Krogan are all named after a known Clan. The Kroguard for instance is Gatatog Reznag.

Salarians are all relatives of known characters. Kirosa or so.

Drell are called Trenchcoat Mafia 1,2,3.

Geth units are named after troop names. Platoon Bataillon, Armada....

Volus aren't played by me.

 It really all depends, take a N7 shadow, I think of how she came to know how to use that sword, think of her ancestors and why it would be importent to her, then I think of were she came from, how the sword in that culture effects her why she became the assassin she is in the first place, then based on all that I came up with the name Sasha shi Because i believed me Shadow to be Japanese and Shi in japanese meaning death but also considered a last name, I guess I like to make whole stories about my characters even if the volus ones are just about them being high and thinking there biotic gods, but who doesn't do that with a volus?

I name them after characters from novels: Caulfield, Mersault, Roquentin, Bardamu, Kirilov. I have a Salarian called Humbert Humbert and a Krogan called Queequeg, pretty happy about those.

e.g.:
Humans mostly get generic names like Olivia, Chester, Rebecca, Freddy, etc.
Drell are named after SP drell: Thane, Kolyat and Feron
Famous robot names for Geth: Bender, C3PO, HK-47
Turians get random turian-sounding names: Maximus, Abraxas, Phoerian, etc

Human's are easy, I role with whatever pops into my head.
I think harder for my favorites though.

Batarian/Vorcha get stuff like Biff.

Never have any idea what to call my Quarians

Use names like Elena, Nika, or Liliana for the Asari
Except for the Justicar, I called her "The Boss".

Geth is always Platform_"something"
For example, my Geth Engineer's name is Platform_Troll, (I speced his overload for stagger and radius) Geth Infiltrator is Platform_007

I give my Turian's Latin or Russian names.
Quintus, Tarkas, Ryzhkov... etc.

Figured Krogan's would give each other nicknames, so mine are things like "Numbskull" "Bone" "Braindead" etc.

My Drellguard is Bad Boy -- he fks sht up.

And if I ever use a Volus he'll probably get called Sack.

It depends on the gender.

For Female, I'll generally throw in a -ia or -ra at the end. Really, anything before hand is fine. Take your last name, Hollan. Hollania or Hollanra. Easy-peasy. I generally enjoy using Kencara, though. I first came up with it when playing Disgaea. So many toons to name in that game!

For Male, I'll throw down any old name. I actually don't have much of a naming convention for it. I generally stick with Haust. I should give it more thought. God forbid when the name is taken!

All the basic human characters in each class category, i named "John Doe" and "Jane Doe"

Pretty much everyone else has a name from their own race, from Mass Effect universe, Except for my Krogan Vanguard, whom i named NASCAR, and coloured him green, yellow, purple and blue..you know, that Biotic Charge....VRYYYYY!

It's pretty random for me. Most Alien races I give names that fit the races, like Urdnot Gnarrl for a Krogan, or Alena for an Asari etc. For humans though I give them stupid names, like Sir Whippy for the ex-Cerberus adept.

When I promote my characters I name them by their classes first letter and a number of the engineer by their position in when I choose them. For example the vanilla human male adept is A1 and female is A2 but when I have the time and interest I will name them something that is in lines of their lore names for that race.

I pick names that more or less line up with the nomenclature of that race. Humans have names like Darius and Minerva, while asari usually end in the letter "a."

Although, my Batarian Soldier's name is Korgin Bludaks, named after Korgan Bloodaxe from BG2.
