I like naming mine after various mythologies and pantheons. Asari get greek names like Athena or Hera. Krogans get norse names. Turians get roman names.

No convention really, sometimes I name them after ME3 characters like Tali or Garrus. Sometimes silly things like "Badass" for the BF3 Soldier, "Reegar'd" for my QMI, "Chaaaarge" for my Kroguard or "Flashy" / "Iownyou" for my Volus. Bumblebee for my pink Krosol. Or names I don't know why I picked them, like "Liam" for my SE...

All my Turian, Quarian and Geth names are Transformers themed.

For the rest, I try to think of appropriate alien sounding names. Mostly...

The humans get a mix of ordinary sounding names and extravagant nicknames.

I use a lot of wordplay in my character names, usually attempting to make it sound like a lore name in the process. For example, my AV is named Eywil Telonya (I will tell on ya), QME is named Yugot nar Klepsi (you got narcolepsy), QFI named Ontu nar Neeya (onto Narnia) etc.

The exceptions are my soldiers, they are all named after the Terminator.... Terminator, Feminator, Kroganator, Turinator, BF3inator, Batarinator, Vorchanator, Destrotinator, Gethinator, Havocinator, Quarinator.

A special exception goes to me Shadow, who is colored blue and yellow and named Blue Angel.

I try to adhere to certain racial conventions.

Humans get a callsign or nickname. Turians get a Dog Latin first name and an Armenian last name (e.g. Jerus Tarkanian). My quarians have somehow become Muslims, with names like Karim vas Jabar. For all others, the clan name is some name that's shown up in-game, like Weyrloc or Jondum, and the personal name is some permutation in the letters of my ID. I like how it's gone so far.

A lot of my characters are named after various present day and historical cities. I started doing this when the Earth DLC came out because i liked the idea that the 6 characters represented a different corner of the earth. Nowadays i look at new characters and try to pick cities i think suit them best.

Mostly initials. Like Quarian female infi is qfi.
Drell infi somehow get the name of Jell the Drell.
Volus are shorty, stumpy, and sqashball.

I don't think any of you are ready for the might of the Elite Soldiers named "q;jnwsdfjndsf" or "123089u334" or "do;jsnds0293434"

I give most characters names based on numerous factors. Some are named based on things from single player, for example.

A few names of some of my favorite characters are:

Destroyer - UnstoppableTank

Valkyrie - Tanky B*tch

Geth Trooper - GPR CXVIII (the rank of the Geth Trooper's GPR on Gold)

GI - ACKNOWLEDGED

TSol - CALIBRATIONS

I think I was too generous calling it a mix :|

Race class and my ability to play with them all have a factor. I always try to have my Asari with names that sound like they would fit, and my Krogan generally have one syllable (flip flop being the exception). I started out using most of my RPG names, and then forum names....and now it's like "um I'm out of names....am I good with this guy? No, okay then we'll call him Garbage".

I think my favorite name of them all is my human (forget which class) Tatum McCormick. Before each match I always yell his name with a over the top hillbilly accent.

I name them after famous Hungarian poets and important figures in our history. That feeling of fighting reapers with people who fought for our freedom in the past. It's just epic. :)

For vorcha, I mash my head on the keyboard and see what I get. I figure, if they had a name they probably couldn't spell it, or if they could, that's how they would do it.

I really go all over the place with naming. Sometimes I'll take spin offs of SP characters (Garry the Garrus). Or random tv characters (abed (community) reminds me of Salarians lol). Or I'll o completely random with names like "wut" because I have yet to master that kit...here's looking at you quarian soldier or vanguard volus...

Good thread

Most of my characters are named after guys on the Oregon Ducks football team. No idea why, I just started doing it one day. Others have random combinations of letters and number because I'm lazy.

My Human Female Soldier is painted blue w/ yellow stripes and is titled "Queen of Battle." Whoever figures out why gets an interwebz cookie.

All of my Krogan are given completely out-of-place names, like Winston, Geoffrey, and William.

Depends. Some are references, like my red, white and blue Paladin named Captain America, my red and gold Slayer named Iron Man, my Typhoon + Piranha wielding Destroyer named Rambo. Some are terrible, like different iterations of guy, dude, bro... Yeah...

I try to name my multiplayer characters to their respective single player counterpart

For example, my Turian Saboteur is named (Lilihierax) after the Turian engineer from Port Hanshan on Noveria.

I usually name my kits for pop culture icons. My drells are all baseball players, reggie mickey and hank, because i feel like I'm hitting a grand slam when i play them. My GI is terminator X because i loved the terminator movies and public enemy when i was a kid. My QFI is J Lo for obvious reasons.
