I always name my characters after demons, gods, devils and mythological creatures.

Usually a play on their species or class, examples:

Phoenix Adept: Steve Fee Nicks

Vorcha: Auuuurrrggh

Soldier: Zakalwe (After a character in an Iain M Banks novel, Use Of Weapons)

Geth usually just, well Geth. After all, we are all geth, says Legion.

One Turian is Turius George.

 Salarian characters are named after a profession/ rank and fruit/ color. Like Dr. Lime, my first Salarian Infiltrator.

I also name my characters after songs, famous personalities, and friends

I give all my humans generic human last names like Peterson and Smith. The others are things I have on my desk or see out the window. My female quarians are named Whoppers and ChapStik.

A lot of my characters have pretty uninteresting names, but I had fun coming up with names for my Batarians. I have:

Henry the Lightning Batarian (Sentinel)
Brody (Vanguard)
Barry (Soldier)

Haven't come up with a name for my Adept yet, but it can hopefully follow the trend.

I try to let myself be inspired by the character.

For example, once I finally understood what Annihilation Field was all about on the Fury, I called her "Nox" because she looks like she's poisoning everything she passes by. The male Quarians, for some reason, just seemed to fit an "old-school" name, so I named them Balthazar and Jeremiah. The Drell with their slick jackets seemed to fit a "romantic" name, so Dahn and Dorian. And it goes on and on...

The only times I might give my characters an uninspired name is when they are first released and I haven't "gotten to know them" yet. So I name them according to their kit until I figure them out and rename.

MyVorcha are all named after Wolverine. Geth are named after memorable robots, like Wall-E and Johnny 5. My batarians are comic book bad asses, like the Punisher and Batman. Some characters are named for their color themes and or weight or appearances (i.e. one of the Vorcha is named Teef and I have a Krogan named McFatty).

I like to try to be creative, might look for some Quarian names to be more lore friendly.

I guess I'll share a few...

I named my Asari Justicar after the Hindu goddess of Power, Parvati. She is the second consort of Shiva (the Destroyer (who I named my N7 Destroyer after)), who is one of the three principle deities of the Trimurti along with Brahma and Vishnu (Which is my Drell Infiltrator).

My Asari Valkyire is named Lamia, after the child-eating demon from Greek mythology.

My Human Infiltrator is named after Jack Frost, a figure from Norse mothology. 

Batarian Soldier is named Abaddon (Angel of the Abyss).

My Geth Trooper is named Pheonix, after the fiery bird from Greek mythology.

And my Female Quarian Engineer is named Khepri (Khepri Vas Hosa to be exact) after the solar deity from Egypt, who is also assoicated with scarab beetles.

There's a bunch more, but I can't remember them all...because I'm away from my Xbox...uh...a few more Asari Vanguard (Angel), Drell Adept (Hermes), Asari Infiltrator (Yaksini)...

I forgot to mention, my ex Cerberus dudes are Ironman and War Machine, my N7 Sentinel is Mr. Freeze, and my Destroyer is Colossus. These have some appearances to match their namesakes.

i like the idea that the multiplayer gives you a chance to play as all your favourite characters so i mostly name my characters after the obscure, unloved characters you forget were in the game at all. i have a quarian infiltrator called lia'vael, a krogan called kargesh and a vorcha called gryll.

i break my rule only for the N7 slayer, who is known as "The Mantom."

I usually assign them a random letter of the alphabet but there are a few that I name after somebody. I named my volus vanguard McJunkin because it is the name of a football player and I thought it was funny.

Krogan Sentinel and krogan soldier are Bert & Ernie. My Fury named Ada, Geth Trooper Godot as I had to wait ages to get him and my slayer is called Buffy. There's also my sentinel b-team Bill the Turian, Ben the Batarian and Arrrrg the Vorcha.
