My humans are all the first human name that popped into my head. Krogans are all Urdnot followed by noises I can make when I burp. Turians are named after Turians in game. Quarians have Vas and a ship name which only leaves about 4 spaces so I try to make a name with 4 letters. Geth are Platform followed by a number generally having something to do with Star Wars. I don't use the Salarians or Volus so I have no idea what I named them.

I use names I like for my humans, and I also like to give military ranks to any Turian and Human character. Most of my Asari have names that start with the letter L (thanks Liara). With Krogan I use the Clan name I think sounds coolest, Drell I have no reason for the names i gave them Except the Drell Vanguard i named him Hornet and put him in a black and gold color scheme and then i run around "Stinging" the enemy.

A lot of mine are from English history. My Krogan Soldier is King Henry VIII. My Shadow is Anne Boleyn. Human infiltrators are Cardinal Wolsey and Catherine Parr. My Asari have names like Tina, Mindy and Wendy. My Drell Vanguard is Rocky Balboa. My Volus Engineer is Tiny. My N7 Destroyer is Sontar (the race from Dr. Who). My Quarians are from BSG, Apollo and Callie. My Salarian Engineer is Chief Tyrol. My Batarians are Scorpy (Farscape) and Krepok (Klingon). My Vorcha hunter is Earl.

I name them after the build. Things like
Fire Exploder - Krogan Soldier
Hate Surfer - Batguard
Blades & Nades - BatSol
Damage Factory - GI
Sniper Supreme - Salarian Infiltrator
There are a few that have special names like my Slayer... he's "Nightmare".

Well, I named my two femquarians after original characters I use in my own work, that being Norah and Sylvie.
Then certain characters, I name them after their class and how I see them.
N7 Destroyer: Armada.
Turian Havok: Rain (His armor is purple)
Asari Huntress: Athena.
Batarian Sentinel: Blownapart.
Phoenix Adept: Whiplash
Battlefield 3: Battlefiend
Krogan Shaman: Komep (After my shaman on WoW)
N7 Demolisher: Depot
Drell Assassin: Logan (I colored him like Wolverine)
Geth I name for the E-102 Series
Geth Trooper: Gamma
Geth Infiltrator: Alpha
Geth Engineer: Beta
And a few names I took from the Dark Legion.
Asari Adept: Gae-Na
Krogan Soldier: Kragok
Turian Soldier: Remington

I just name them things that rhyme with their race, have van in them (for vanguards) Volus I named after banks, some just cause they match what the character does.in game (ie. Batarian Soldier is Cpt. Falcon, cause of Falcon Punch or ShredEmLeadEm for my T-Sol cause of rapid fire with marksmen).

I used to pick names that start with the same letter as the class, but now I just pick them mostly at random, for aliens I try to stick to established ways of naming ...
my Krogan are all from clan Nakmor
while I used numbers for the Geth before I switched to simple names like Bob etc.
I named the Cerberus Vanguard Wallis because I headcanon he's in love with the asari vanguard called ... some variation of Eve (Wall-E & Eve *winkwink*)
and I couldn't resist naming the Turian Ghost Infiltrator Toufexis, because I can't get over Elias Toufexis not lending his voice to any Turians, and no turianification of the name 'Adam Jensen' would be as fitting as Toufexis anyway
oh, and the Paladin Sentinel is called Kaiden (yes, I deliberately spelled it with an 'e' as opposed to Kaidan as it's supposed to be)
sometimes I also test names I want to use in the fangame to see if they stick

ENGXX
STLXX
IFTXX
VGDXX
XX is replaced by the number the character is, based on the order they appear on the menu.

added at the end of a class and its number to indicate it has been built (powers assigned, equipment ready).
Example, STL05 (
.
Not creative, I know. I like to think they're like, MOS codes or something, even if they don't look anything like them.
At first a long while ago I used to give each character an interesting callsign (not necessary clever/witty ones), but got tired of coming up with new ones.

From the very beginning I've always named the characters in each class after science fiction/fantasy tv shows or films -
Adept: Star Trek:TNG & Star Trek:DS9 - e.g. Dax, Sisko, Geordi
Soldier: Star Wars - e,g. Luke, Leia, Chewbacca
Engineer: Firefly - e.g. Mal, River, Badger
Sentinel: Farscape - e.g. Aeryn, Rygel, Pilot
Infiltrator: Angel/Buffy - e.g. Lorne, Gunn, Wesley
Vanguard: Battlestar Galactica - e.g. Apollo, Starbuck, Boomer

Some have generic names, others amusing puns. For example, after reading some one mistype the QMS as the Marxman, I HAD to call him Karl'Marx. Y'know, Quarian naming structure and all.

Either some derivative of a similar character in SP, like Urnot Wrecks for Urdnot Wrex (and because no other Krogan can be Wrex), a pun like Lt. Demi Lisher, something suggestive like Tushi T'Sheik or an homage like Robin 'Z' Sachs.

I try to be a bit creative..not naming them after any series or franchise.
My slayer is named "Viper"
Phoenix vanguard "Type-7"
Destroyer "The Eliminator"
I think it would've been nice if our character names could be seen under our ID's, but i think that might've been a bit much.....still tho i would have liked to be able to see our character's names.

Considering the names are pointlessly forced upon us I just hit random keys on the keyboard.

I just kinda make unintelligible noises, count the syllables, then refine the sound until it uses actual letters. Fo' srs.
Except my Volus; that is wholehearted, dedicated wordplay!

I name my favorite kit, the Salarian Infiltrator, Koenig888. The rest of my kits get names when they have topped a Gold scoreboard or completed a solo. I then pick whatever name strikes my fancy, for example, my Geth Infiltrator is called GethIProx (for Geth Infiltrator with Proximity Mine, a Gaulish sounding name inspired by Asterix and Obelix books) and my Krogan Vanguard is called KroGI (for Krogan GI, which came to mind during my umpteenth viewing of Band of Brothers).
