I never pictured Tali as a super model. Then again, I never pictured her as human, either.

You and me both. They could at least use the voice actors face.

That wouldn't have been a bad place to start. But I wanted her to look alien. That's why seeing her face in ME3 was a big deal to me. The question was always, what do the quarians actually look like? Well, it turns out they look almost identical to humans.

And that's canon. They can't take it back unless they want to do a huge retcon.

I also wanted to Tali looked more like an alien. Now that they used a model as image, then they could have used her face and made it more alienated.

What I meant is that they were very lazy when it got to Tali's face. Waited 5 years to see how they looked.

Yet, under that mask, Tali always looked like human to me. Aside the glowing eyes, it was possible to the the form of her nose most times, and it was similar to humans. That would mean a human face, and that's the case.

This "looking like an alien" statement is interesting. Everything outside Earth, doesn't matter it's looks, would be alien. Superman was born in Krypton, planet wich everyone looked exactly like humans, and aside that, he will always be an alien in Earth.

Then what's the point of making her an alien at all? They could have made her completely human with a weak immune system and got the same result.

If Tali was human you wouldn't have insight on the Quarians, their war against the Geth, and many other things only possible because you have Tali and she is a Quarian.
So no, it wouldn't be the same result, you just oversimplifying.

Stick an asari in the same helmet and, aside from not having glowing eyes, she'd look the same as a quarian in a helmet yet they look alien enough (at least for science fiction since I find it rather unlikely that any real aliens would look even that human). There was plenty of scope for making quarians look more alien whilst still keeping to them looking more human than the others (I think the codex said that somewhere before ME3 was even released). Even Spock looks more alien than the Tali photo. Very dissapointing.

They did make them look different from humans (I will not say alien, everyone non-human is alien for humans): not the same quantity of fingers, legs are different. The similarities, as the chest (and breast on female quarians) and the face were enough hinted at. Just take a look at what can be saw from Tali's face through the helmet. Anyone seriously expected she having an Predator mouth? Shepard didn't smile when he took Tali's mask out because she was beautiful?

I'm assuming, like she did in ME2, she took a bunch of antibiotics and so forth that helped prevent her from getting seriously ill.

The term "face model" is incorrectly used here.
Ms. Kohistani' face IS Tali's face. Ms. Kohistani didn't "model" for the artists nor did they use her picture to create something new.

Not in any real sense anyway.

I'm just nit-picking... but I think it's important to be honest about that for various reasons.

Every time I see that picture I get grumpy. It's just so unbelievably... What's the word I am looking for... Lazy?

For months I was debating with other Tali fans in the character forums championing bioware's creativity when it game to aliens, and how I was sure that no matter what bioware would come up with an interesting design for the quarians. Hell I didn't vocalize it but internally while I would have been disappointed with human aliens, if they had made a great design it would have been fine.

I mean we are talking about the company that made the Turians! Elcor, Hanar, Vorcha, Drell and so on! They are capable of being creative and imaginative.... But what do they do?

They take a public access photo, do a quick photoshop and call it a day. I don't know why but it just hurts. I don't want to call them lazy as I don't know what happened behind the scenes to result in this... but I just don't know why bioware thought it would work.

Wow, I completely forgot how cute Liz Sroka is. She is indeed beautiful, but "hot" just seems like the wrong word for it.
That's exactly the kind of "beautiful" what Tali has always been in my imagination. So why look any further? I agree that the photoshopping is lazy, but on top of that, even as a humanoid alien, the selected model doesn't fit her character.

Just doesn't seem right for someone who lives/desends from a race of people that lives a sealed suit to have all of that hair. Doesn't seem practical or logical...

I was talking entirely about the face, and I thought that it was obvious that I was talking about the face. Did you actually read my post, especially the point where if you stuck an asari in the same helmet you'd see the same nose, brow, and top lip yet they look alien enough for a science fiction game?

I do not understand why BioWare doesn't hire fans to design this stuff for them? Concept art exists that is far better than anything BioWare has ever done.

Oh...oh I see. I've answered my own question.

Well it wouldn't be a "huge" retcon. They could adjust them slightly (skin colour, ears, etc) and it would be fine. Games always have aesthetic changes over time. Heck the Vorcha were changed in Omega, and they have actual in-game models, and no one minded.

So they could slightly retcon the Quarians look in the next game and I don't think anyone would mind.

It's called tradition. People do things that are illogical simply because it was how their ancestors used to do things.

Quarians have a strong respect for their ancestors, I quote from the codex...

"The quarians used to practice a form of ancestor worship."

and...

"...respect for their ancestors is still prevalent in quarian society."

The most reasonable answer as to why they have long hair, or why at least Tali does, is because they still respect their ancestors a great deal. Keeping hair is just another way to show they still respect them. It doesn't need to be practical or logical for it to be a tradition.

Tradition has nothing to do with one hair being able to grow while constantly covered in an environmental suit. Forgetting for a moment the physical limits on trying to grow hair in an enviro suit it is still not logical for them to maintain a such affectations. I'm sure Quarians had traditions living on planet surfaces, sun bathing, and not wearing environmental suit buts it became illogical for them to keep up those traditions.

There is plenty of room for hair growth in the suits, especially for female Quarians.

Quarians are not in their suits 100% of the time either. They maintain how they look, regardless of the suits.

Keeping hair =/= sun bathing, try again.

With all the filters and vacuums and vents in a normal Quaarian's day-to-day I like to think of Tali wearing her hair long as a form of alien-rebel-bad-assness.

No, Quarians are not in suit "100% of the time, but 95% of the time they are in the suits. That alone would stunt hair growth significantly. Also, you assume that growing hair is a Quarian tradition and that assumption is just silly as the photoshoped Tali bioware used to insult the players. That's about as ridiculous as no one in the galaxy remembering how Quarians look after only 300 years. Are we also to believe that photography only became available to the galactic community after the Quarians started wearing suits? I guess you buy that one too huh?

lol... ya know, I never really thought about that before. Are there no artists in the future? Someone who could make a painting or whatever, a portrait of a quarian. What about cameras of some kind?
