As for it being a stock photo, oh well. Shepard himself is based on Mark Vanderloo, so not too much of a jump, there.

Exactly.. Default Shepard is based on a RL male model, Miranda was modelled after Yvonne Strahovski. Did anyone complain? I can't remember a single negative post about it.
Now they use a stock photo to model Tali and suddenly everyone is enranged. Hmmm.. I wonder why they didn't see that comming, it was soooo obvious.

You are not being serious, are you?

In any case to answer your question:
Tali is not modelled after that person. In fact, her face is not modelled AT ALL. The only thing that exists is a manipulated (and badly I might add) GettyImage stock photo.
If they would have modelled Talis face and then revealed that, I'm pretty sure no-one would have complained. Well, apart from "I wished she would have looked differently" etc. You know, taste and all. But not like now where people say that BioWare did nothing but a shoddy foto manipulation as one of the biggest reveals in the history of video gaming.

Context. That's the issue here. Context.
Failing to get the issue about the Tali reveal is only possible by actively ignoring the context.

Edit: Also, she looks too human for an alien race with a completely different uh... DNA... you know what i mean. Sure, vaguely human would have been ok, but simply human with contact lenses and edding marker lines on the throat and a missing finger? Not alien enough....

There are a few facts that ticked Tali-Fans off:
1.They dropped the ball to show her face at the BEST moment in the Game (at rannoch).
2. They just made a lazy photoshop image of her, instead of an actual modeled face.
3. They put so much effort and time in a FULL MODEL OF JESSICA CHOBOT and than had no time to make AT LEAST A MODELED FACE OF TALI?!

These three facts together are just pissing me off everytime I´m thinking about it.

Always wonderd how Tali took that photo without getting ultra sick or dead afterwards...what happend to getting sick with no suits on?

Holodeck Posted Image  No wait thats Star Treck!

The question isn't how, but who took the picture. I'm a little curious about that.

Thats not the only question.

The real problem for me is bioware lazyness. THis is not the pic from the game, its an IMPROOVEMENT made by a fan. On the original, tali has a deformed hand. its bizarre.

Yep it is an Photoshop IMPROOVEMENT of the original Photoshop pic. Didn't want show that crapy lazy done pic!

1)  Agreed.
2)  To be fair...Bioware was kinda lazy all around, with everyone just using real people faces instead of coming up with original characters.

Something to keep in mind.  Bioware's HUMAN models...are all relatively hideous.  They are VERY good at making aliens.  But humans?  Not so much.

So with that in mind, and Quarians essentially being purple humans with minor insectoid features here and there...I'm glad the didn't have an in-game model of her after thinknig about it for a while.  Because it probably would have left Tali looking pretty fugly under the mask.

So my only ACTUAL complaint is them leaving the long hair in the photoshopped pic, as that makes no sense with the suit.

Still think Tali should have looked more alien. I didn't mind her having a human like face, but then again so do the drell, and that is an example of making a human like alien, while not making them to human.

They should have found a happy medium.

Though if i had a choice of her face being to human, or looking extremely alien, i would choose the very alien appearance.

Every time I see that picture I get grumpy. It's just so unbelievably... What's the word I am looking for... Lazy?

For months I was debating with other Tali fans in the character forums championing bioware's creativity when it game to aliens, and how I was sure that no matter what bioware would come up with an interesting design for the quarians. Hell I didn't vocalize it but internally while I would have been disappointed with human aliens, if they had made a great design it would have been fine.

I mean we are talking about the company that made the Turians! Elcor, Hanar, Vorcha, Drell and so on! They are capable of being creative and imaginative.... But what do they do?

They take a public access photo, do a quick photoshop and call it a day. I don't know why but it just hurts. I don't want to call them lazy as I don't know what happened behind the scenes to result in this... but I just don't know why bioware thought it would work.

Frankly, this could be attributed to the entirety of ME3, although I would argue it began during ME2. Whether EA is to blame, an intentional shift in direction or whatever scenario you can surmise. Something happened that changed the scope of the series as a whole. BioWare gradually became more interested in lynching ideas from other successful games and less focused on the plot.

My personal belief is the EA influence. Mass Effect was intended to be their gateway into competition with Call of Duty and Gears of War. Perhaps that is the cop out response but I find it difficult to accept BioWare willingly sunk so low in quality.

Mass Effect 1 and 2 dominated both other series like a boss. The only good thing about CoD is **** Zombies, and that is it.

As someone who does not have a Shepard that romanced Tali I was completely unaware of the photo in game.

Prior to the games release, I can remember a few Talimancers saying that only "they" should be able to see her face. That non-Talimancers should not get to see her ... ever. Posted Image

That made no sense to me since I considered her a close friend to my Shepards and hoped that somewhere in game we (Shepard & I) would see her smile without her mask. All through ME3 I hoped but ... nope. Nothing.

Hearing that there was a photo only for those who romanced her disappointed me but hey! At least those who had argued for exclusivity got their way.

The picture itself didn't bother me when I finally saw it here on the BSN. I just wished that we had seen her face exposed on Rannoch for all players. That would have been nice.

BioWare said they wanted to use a real model for Tali's face. Liara, Samara, Miranda, etc. all had real face models, and they believed Tali deserved the same treatment. They also claim to have sifted through thousands of photos before choosing that one. They wanted to use a photo to give it a photorealistic look. The said they thought it would be a nice touch, because it's a special gift to Shepard. Something like that I think.

What would have been more special is Tali having a real face to show instead of a hard-to-make-out picture. I agree that they should have used a real face model, but editing an existing photo instead of creating a 3D face using the model as a reference does seem like a cop out. I usually try to cut BioWare some slack, but in this case I agree with the players. Tali is special to a good number of them. They deserved better.

We
eventually decided that she gives you a memento of her pictures, but the
team was throwing around a lot of pictures and designs until we decided
on something and said "Yup, that's her".
