I've played all three games and Garrus was a pretty cool guy throughout them all, but never stuck out to me than "Yeah he's pretty neat". But whenever I see him mentioned by anyone else it is always "THE BEST SQUADMATE" and "I USE HIM EVERY TIME IN ALL THREE GAMES". It is a general consensus that about 80% of the community is like this, to where I have Garrus at a solid fourth for the male characters, liking Thane, Zaeed, and Mordin more in that order.
Now sure I get why people would like Garrus as much as I like Thane but it is hard to understand the appeal personally. He's always just been that wingman who cracked a few jokes.
Why is Garrus so loved?

Guess it's a lot of things. First off because he's a Turian, the first alien race you see, so he has that element of cool. The next thing is probably because he's your wingman, moreso than the rest of your ME1 squadmates. Also, he's great in combat.
I like Garrus but it did annoy me that he was in ME3 as a squaddie over Miranda, given his lack of plot importance, but hey what can you do.

He's one of the best 'bros' in gaming. His best scene in the entire series is just going on top of a building or whatever it was, shooting bottles and talking a little trash with Shep. AND IT WAS AWESOME. I will admit he was kinda boring in ME1, but in 2 & 3 he became the snarky, silver tongued buddy cop-type to Shep that made him stand out above the other NPCs for me.

I've played with practically every squadmate through every game, but Garrus simply stands out. He's the 'buddy'. He's the guy you end up in the back of a police car with and he laughingly states "that was fun!"

I brought him along on missions sometimes with Miranda in ME2 (mainly for purposes of Overload), but in ME3 he started to take a backseat to the point I rarely ever chose him.
One thing that bothers me about him is that Shepard can leave too much of an impression on him without good reason (Sedonis is a big one). It's like whether you're a Paragon or Renegade, so is Garrus.

He is useful in combat, sympathetic towards Shepard, and has lots of interaction in ME3.

I don't like garrus that much. I prefer Wrex, Grunt, Zaeed, James, even Kaidan over Garrus... he seems to be a little useless.

I love garus cuz he has been a true friend to shep but like ash i liked him cuz he gave shep a piece of his mind, another reason i

I can understand why he is well liked in ME3, but his popularity in ME and ME2 will always confuse me. More so when Garrus in ME2 is a prime example of choices meaning nothing.

I know the meeting of him is different. I think when they meet in ME2 it's more like "You're the guy who tried to do my case for saren" kindof thing instead of "HEY BUDDY!"xAmilli0n wrote...

He has an okay introduction in ME1, in ME2 he starts getting the "Shepard's best bro" treatment and becomes Space Batman. In ME3 he's basically all about being Shepard's best friend and not much else, which kind of sucked. It's not that him being a friend is bad, it's just there could have been a lot more done with him as a character (his romance with FemShep is pretty well done though).
I like him as he is, but I think he would have been more interesting had they done something more than write him to be cool (and avoided overdoing the calibration jokes).

I don't care much for Garrus. I sometimes use him because I can't stand many of the teammates in ME2. With EDI onboard, I barely remember he's on a ship. I do see his appeal though. They make him out to be your best bro on the ship.

I like him because he acts like a brother to shepard. they act like 2 old soldiers that have been through everything together (and they have). Besides, he is one of the only two squadmates that is with you throughout the trilogy

Forgetting race, he is your friend and after ME 1 he is less of an emotional dependent (ME1 he died more then a stampede of Lemmings)...he is there for you through thick and thin from ME 2 onwards.

I stick with Ashley and James. The other thing is he has a bad habit of getting killed a lot on insanity mode. He was better on insanity mode in ME2
Most of my playthroughs in ME3 are without Garrus.

Because he's meant to be your best friend. He never questions you, supports literally everything you do, and is always there for you. Plus he's sarcastic. I like Garrus, but I preferred the more opinionated squadmates.

In ME1 he was the first guy I found to be trustworthy. I never felt like he would do something impulsive that will screw things up (like Wrex), he would not not put priority to the alliance (like Ash and Kaidan). Tali and Liara came later and first impressions do wonders.
He and Tali were there always for me if they could - not caring if they help me doing work for the council, cerberus or the alliance - they were with me.
When in ME2 I recruit him, it becomes clear that we really cared for me and my death screwed him over. He bro-loved me. I personally have a weakness to such affection.
In ME3 - ME3 in my opinion had a very strong character development for him. Felt very real.
Also, he is the only other guy who is actually a soldier, that got this much "A lot of lives depend on you" thing. Once again - only Tali comes close to him.

He was a great squadmate. You could relate to him in ME1. He had struggles I really could understand, being tired of red tape, wanting to have some freedom. In ME2/3, he was my romance option. So earnest and funny and awkward. I just adore him. He backs up whatever he believes in by doing it. He also was the only squaddied completely devoted to my Shep. Through the whole series. Even in my dudeShep playthroughs, he's your bestie. Loyal and unwavering and completely as badass as you are.
