I think I'm a bit limited. That might be one problem. I can't do anything to him himself to make him question the loyalty. I'm limited to only doing things outside of him - and he's apparently cool with all of it. I think it'd have been interesting if I could beat his ass a little more about Harkin. Then we could have an argument about the nature of justice or something. I don't mind being cool with him, but they need to clash on something. Just something at least. Samara has more interesting dialogue about these things.

Harkin is made out to be the scum of the earth in ME2, but all he does is a run an identity change operation. Before, he was no different than Bailey or my Shepard - Bailey takes bribes and beats people up in interrogations as well. Harkin apparently skimmed cash from Red Sand busts -- and I do the same thing with Pitne For in Samara's quest. These are apparently the things that made Harkin bad according to Anderson. Also, my Shepard drinks on the job plenty. The only thing Harkin doesn't have going for him is he's an assh*le. Lacks any interpersonal skills. Heh. He's an ugly bald grouch, so he's an easy target. That doesn't make him so much worse than others though.

Probably because he's an everyman who is literally programmed to change personality via Shepard's own moral slant. Fans tend to gravitate towards characters who stroke the PC's ego. It's the same reason that those who oppose, betray, or dislike Shepard tend to be hated and ignored by fandom.

I only played male Shepard but to me Garrus always seemed like the true 'bro' through thick and thin.
That's why I really loved that scene in ME3 with the two of them shooting it out.

And he also seemed to be the voice of reason whenever needed, most of the time anyway.
Let us picture a new installment of the ME franchise without him and other members of the crew.
That will be great, won't it? God I'll miss him and the rest.

One of many reasons I don't think ME4 will be as succesful.

Is that really true? I always went Paragon so don't know about Renegade. But you're saying that either way Garrus was always backing Shepard up? Never a disagreement?

I don't know if it makes an actual morality alignment check. He just seems to have approving or at least non-confrontational dialogue no matter what choices you make.

I can understand needing a character who isn't giving Shep a lot of crap, I guess. Not my cup of tea, but I understand it. Sometimes at first those difficult characters are harder to adjust to, but I end up liking them more in the longrun.

It's pretty much true. In ME1, Garrus will align him towards whatever morality you chose, basically subordinating himself to your opinions (and ending with whichever choice you make on his personal mission). In ME2, Garrus ends up doing the same, taking his 'revenge is good/bad' from Shepherd's choice in the Loyalty mission.

And in ME3, Garrus has no development and basically is amiable to anything you say... including the genophage choice and screwing over Wrex. Or choosing between Geth/Quarians.

I can understand needing a character who isn't giving Shep a lot of crap, I guess. Not my cup of tea, but I understand it. Sometimes at first those difficult characters are harder to adjust to, but I end up liking them more in the longrun.

Unfortunately in ME, that's the vast majority of the cast. Characters who will stand up to Shpeherd over anything are rare- characters whose backbone applies to more than one topic are even rarer.

To quote Casey Hudson: "Because, Garrus is a total bro!"

Because he is analogous to an interstellar crime fighter. Full of ****** and vinegar. Capable of feats of derring-do.

Garrus has been a favorite of mine. Great in combat, fantastic look, perfect voice and dialogue guaranteed to bring a smile. In ME3 after Tuchanka, head up to cockpit and just stand there listening to him telling jokes to Joker. Also, his favorite spot on the Citadel.
