Hi ! Just bought the game, and having an issue ... seems hard to find any support on the regular support pages so I post in here ...

I'm running OS X.6.2, on a dual core 2,66 Mac, with 7 GB of Ram and an ATI 4890 for the video card.

When I launch the game, I'm having a black scrren, I have the mouse cursor of the game, and it moves, and I hear the sounds, but the display stays black ...

Any idea ? thanks :)

I have the *almost* the same issue, the screen freezes, and music/sounds go on, and I can move the mouse, but nothing else. I 've tried to minimize the game, but nothing really works, so a restart is really the only solution I have found.(noth that it really is a solution)

Since you got another video card than me: have you tried updating the drivers?

You mean a game or computer restart ? so far, restarting the game have no effects ...

For the drivers I use the regular 4870 drivers I think, since 4890 is not "officially" available to Mac. I had not a single problem with that video card before that ... (for more information on how to use 4870 or 4890 PC edition on a mac, go to http://netkas.org/ he's a genius ;)).

Else on Mac there's no really drivers update as in windows world ...

I know. If you want to get an update for video cards, you need to cross fingers one is hidden in a software update of Snow Leopard, pretty much the same on my macbook.

And yes, I meant computer restart, alternatively, you could try to play in windowed mode(  + Return when in fullscreen mode) although that seriously cuts performance.

no, the windowed mode does the same black screen ... :(

:( And I sort of hoped it was due to my old card. Must be a bug then, fingers crossed on a solution coming with/when the patch comes!

OK, I changed main monitor, and so launched it on my old 7300 graphic card ... and it works. The thing is, this video card is crap, and is on my little monitor on a 4x PCI bus ...
So right now, this game is not playable for me (I dont buy a game to play it on a lousy card with options set to the minimum ...).
I hope to see a fix for that REALLY soon ...

I have the SAME exact problem. Rather, I HAD. When you played the game, did you have both cards in your system? If so, you have to remove the 7300 GT. In order to play this game, you can only have the ATI card in at the time.

I was going to look into seeing if it's possible to just disable the card like you can in Windows and to try running it after that. It was a busy weekend for me so I wasn't able to test my theory. But I need to have the 7300 in there because for whatever reason, the second DVI port doesn't seem to work and I have a dual monitor setup. I'm not sure if this game is worth not having a second monitor available.

But the game runs incredibly well and looks beautiful with the ATI.

Ho, but I will not remove my 7300 ! It runs my second monitor, and I dont want to plug both of them on my 4890 ! I want the 4890 to be left alone with the main monitor and not split its memory in both of them !

I'm sorry, no other program, game or anything have any trouble with the fact that I run both card, if this game dont do that, its a programing problem, nothing to do with my setting ...

There's normally no way to disable a card except by removing it from the Mac, if I'm correct.

Agreed. I can run NWN2 with no problems having both cards in the system.

Either way, don't blame me for providing you the answer. You might be waiting a LONG time for a software solution. But I'm not sure why you feel it's stealing memory or something? In normal operation, the card has plenty of VRAM. And when playing games, it seems to disable the other monitor anyway. In most cases.

I dont blame you at all, I thank you for finding what happened :)

No, the thing is that VRAM is not something that can goes on and off on the fly (not on the Mac OS ...) so you GC allow its memory at startup, and will not change that unless you disconnect your second monitor and restart ...

DOA for Mac is digital download only. Where would you return it to?

Same problem too, the game start for 2 minutes and then black screen, I have to shutdown power and restart again and again. my mac has only one display card ATI X1900.

I can't believe I bought a fantastic mac game that can not play, and there is no any patch at all.

Only five here report the black screen problem, how about the other mac players?

I had a very kind answer from gametree (the ones responsible for Cider)

In the future, please contact us via our website support zone

(http://www.gametreeonline.com/support/) to ensure your inquiry is directed to the right

department.

In order for us to look into this issue for you, we would like to request a system profile

of your Mac, with both of your video cards installed/enabled. I will then escalate your

ticket to our developers for a closer review.

To send us a profile of your Mac:

Open your Mac's profile under Apple Menu > About this Mac > More info, then save it under

File > Save As. Save it to your Desktop (you can leave the name the same or change it).

To save the profile as a .zip, please hold down control and click on it, then select the

option with "compress" or "archive" (this will vary depending on your OS version, but it

should be one of those two). The new file should simply appear on your Desktop, but with

.zip at the end of its name.

Then please attach the .zip file to your reply email as you would any other file.

Kind regards,

Alec

So, I've replied, and now I'm waiting to here from them, but it was a quick answer, and it looks like they're really willing to help us :). I let you know anything new :)

OK I had an answer ... the thing is that I use a 4890, that is not supported officially by Apple but that runs perfectly, with every programs, games, desktop effects a.s.o. because of netkas.org works to let us use other video cards ... but as its not officially supported, gametree will do nothing for me, even when I explain to them that absolutely everything, except Dragon Age, works flawlessly and is perfectly recognized by the system ... so here it is, I bought the game, and I cant play it at all ...

My only advice is to stay away from Cider ports, every one of them ...
