Wouldn't it be amazing if Grey Wardens got Griffons?

yeah, the Griffons could be flying around in the Kocari Wilds or even farther south for all we know. Kocari Wilds is still unexplored territory for the most part.

It's unlikely they're to the south as that's mostly an icy wasteland.

But it was stated somewhere they were extinct.

It was stated somewhere that elves were once immortal. It was stated somewhere that Andreste was a mage. It was stated somewhere that the magisters entered the Golden City to usurp the Maker.

There's a great deal stated that is dubious; that's the nature of lore in this game.

Psssst so relentless.

If griffons were still around I can see Bioware make a minigame based on Joust, just like they did with Jade Empire by placing a Galaga styled minigame in it.

Yes, I can see that happening, they did something similar with KOTOR when you were shooting down Sith fighters from the Ebon Hawk, depending on what kind of weapons you're using it has the potential to be fun. The real question is what kind of ranged weapons are you packing while riding a giant white Griffon?

That would be truly awesome.

I had thought about this as well. As mentioned before, I doubt that the game engine could handle the concept of you riding a griffon, however, I don't see why you couldn't gain one as a party member like "Dog"- and you ride it during cut scenes. I could certainly see a future DLC where we go on a quest to find a Giffon egg that has been preserved in some dungeon by magic for all these centuries.

The conversation with Wynne about the story of the Grey Warden's of old is sooo much funnier if you use all the "Does it have Griffons?" response lines.

I don't think the Dragon Age engine is capable of doing this. You can't even jump over small obstacles blocking your way like rocks and fallen trees (which frustrates me sometimes). In the gameplay, no; in a cinematics video, maybe.

Exactly right; too bad though

Another point that I have wondered about is that were White Griffons just something Grey Wardens rode or did they battle capabilities. Were they intelligent and have the ability to slash enemies with talons, peck them with their beaks, blow enemies away with their wings or grab them and drop them from 50 feet in the air? If they are anything like dogs, they could really be awesome. Imagine sending a squadron of Grey Wardens riding Griffons to attack an ArchDemon or watching a DarkSpawn being picked up and dropped from 100 feet onto an Ogre. I'm not even talking about playing this, just watching this in a cinematic would be fun to see.

Why not think "micro" and not "macro"...

How about simply a skin-mod for the Dog?

As in a baby griffon companion, the first of a new bloodline... intelligent as a mabari and as tough... but small.

Now that is something I would like to see for Awakening.

It would be awesome, but unfortunately I don't think that we're likely to see them.

1. They had trouble with HORSES in this game. If Horses are an issue, then we're not getting flying Griffons.

There's a good point.  Think micro.  How about instead of a flying griffon mount the griffon is like a companion just like the mabari hound.

Yes it should be really easy to bring a long extinct species back out of no where. Gameplay wise it wouldn't fit, unless it was used in like cintematics. I think bioware made them extinct so we wouldnt get any other idea's.

LOL, you seen how they rewrote Mass Effect 2 codex entries from ME1?

Bringing back Griffons would be a minor thing compared to those changes!

Im hoping a white griffon is the ultimate pay off at the end of DA:O 3 :)

A fitting end to the trilogy in my opinion

Or... think micro, and have a tiny griffon as a companion instead!!!

Wait... is there an echo in here? Posted Image

What is the point: you can only follow the pre-set path. My characters can't climb a two foot high 'hill'. Zero chance they could ever mount a griffon.

Well, if it's KATHY Griffon, I'm glad they're extinct.

I think they'll definitely make an appearance in a sequel, though maybe not with Grey Wardens riding them.

Might just throw a couple wild ones in there as bosses or whatever, kind of like dragons.

Err there extinct though. Last time i checked once a species is extinct it can never come back on its own. Here's a wiki article on them http://dragonage.wik...m/wiki/Griffons

Arg, as pointed out in the codex, dragons prior to this age were thought to be extinct as well. Thus, Griffons could be made unextinct with a wave of the hand. Of course they would be unlikely to be domesticated so using them as mounts would be problematic. As for a real life example google coelacanth.

Maybe BW could give us miniature giant space griffons! Those shouldn't be extinct. ;)

Griffons might not exactly be extinct. The wording used in game is DISAPPEARED!

So draw conclusions as you like, the wording is ambiguous on purpose. They might be added sometime (though most probably not in DA:O but in another DA game), but then again, they might not..

perhaps we will see them in a DA (though the name wouldnt make sence then) that is during the fourth blight.

You know being that there is such a thing, as magic in DA:O it could be possible that say one or two griffon eggs are "frozen in time"..and discovered by some adventurers. Anything's possible, BUT...to implement flying in this game might have to be in an expansion pac only and not the rest of the game..well thats the way I see it. And I imagine that would not be easy to do programming wise...but I'm not a programmer. :)

Time traveling Griffons with crossbow eyes and sword dongs could work.
