Yep, a mage cutting up your mom, sewing her back together, and bringing her back to life to be his bride sure was cartoony.

It sounds more like they're asking for TW2's gratuitous boob shots than anything.

That scene with your mother *was* cartoony. That whole quest was pretty pathetic.

Ugh that scene felt so forced.

I half expected Vader to show up.

I thought that the quest was allright, but imo just doesant work with the graphics at all and doesant really work as dark.

I agree with most of the article. And I believe, unless you wrote the article yourself, you aren't likely to agree with ALL of it.

PC Gamer has been a pretty good magazine / outfit for it's run, IMO.

Interesting. So basically more lovingly textured shots of Bristols in DA?.

You think that consoles are holding us back even though they sell twice as much as PCs?

Yeah, I thought most people's reaction to the Frankenmom scene was derisive laughter. She even walks like the zombies from the Thriller video and the villain has a horrible Bond movie monologue about "touching the face of the Maker." I know they were trying to make that scene dark and emotional but it just came off as silly.

I never meant that content involving Geralt's Promiscuousness, I meant the language used and the details of plots within the game, and I was wrong about the age limit.

Yet that's exactly what the article considers mature when mentioning the Witcher vs. DA, along with Spartacus-like violence.

As for the zombie-mom scene, it might have been a joke visually, but the concept behind was a whole other story, even if the quest was flawed. It really wasn't the only mature or dark moment in DA either.

(And ploughing yes, I ploughing forgot about the ploughing "mature" Witcher 2 language. Plough me, I ploughed up. ;))

Yes, i like how things like

"Your motha sucks dwarf [REDACTED]"

are heralded as "mature."

Was it so? I felt it was rather disturbing than funny. But well, agreed that the art style in DA2 didn't really allow virtually anything to be much dark and gloomy.

Am I the only one who noticed that everyone is a ****son in the Witcher 2.

Also remember the American news was going mad about the nudity in ME1, oh! how I lol'd as there was none. CDproject must just laugh at them.  (The American news not Bioware).

Pretty much. When the story got dark the look of the game made it hard to follow emotionally, at least for me.

Another example would be the Darkspawn. In Origins I thought they looked like sufficiently scary, world-ravaging monsters. In DA2 they looked like dancing Power Rangers mooks. I think the cartoony artstyle and lighting clashed a lot with the story they were trying to tell.

No I don't remember that. I remember Foxnews trying to make a big deal about it and it failing horribly while the internet went made over it.

Also please don't refer to FoxNews as American news

Honestly? I felt like the article could have been pulled directly from the bsn without so much as a spell check. And it wouldn't have been written by one of the more eloquent posters here either.

Why is a journalist asking for silent protag and playable races at this point? What is this star map he's talking about (is he confusing DA with skyrim? ..really?)? The whole thing's a mess on so many levels.

Still, all publicity is good publicity.

Yeah, didn't PC Gamer call Dragon Age 2 the "RPG of the Decade"? If it was so perfect what is there to fix? Hmm...

1. Stop attributing a whole site edited by different people to one persons opinion.
2. Dragon Age 2 was awesome - and best RPG of the decade is a valid opinion

And that "very funny" has in fact an entirely different meaning? (hey, talk about surprise paraphrase :P)

Also remember the American news was going mad about the nudity in ME1, oh! how I lol'd as there was none. CDproject must just laugh at them.  (The American news not Bioware).

I'm in Europe, so I didn't pay attention, but I doubt every American news had a bout of pearl clutching at some pixel flesh.

Anyway, it's fine for a game to have some language, nudity and violence (not against it per se), but judging a game's maturity on this only is a bit... childish (oh, they said "plough", they must be [pseudo middle-ageish] grown-ups!), and it's in no way required.

There! That's exactly what bugs me so much in this article. It's like the author read a bunch of forums (starting with the BSN), took the most vocal opinions and bundled them nicely into one organized article, but somehow failed at research here and there.

Not saying that it's actually what happened, but it very much feels like it.

Some i agree with, certainly about the PC-ports - their just awful usually
Generally i miss the feel of DAO, it felt like an rpg, which is my fav game type, "Awsome Button" games are just repetitive bores that get old very quick, i miss the challenge of needing to think ahead instead of Spam Mouse 1.

given most console tech is several years old and outdated within 6 months of initial release .. yes. a console cannot compete with a pc for raw performance, a PC can make a game shine graphically and user created content, a console cannot generally. with this in mind developers have little reason to push the limits, very few games really test my computers' ability to run it at ultra, in comparison a console looks little more than 32bit display pictures running round stabbing eachother with pointy sticks. Theres more to the discussion than raw sales, with console limitations, games stagnate (which tbh can be seen, nothing particually groundbreaking for quite some time)

Decent list, I agree with the majority of points it brought up. Elven protagonist and silent character we know is not going to happen, though.

And people, stop trying to bash The Witcher with the IT HAS BOOBIES IN IT response. The way you go on you'd think that Geralt can't swing his sword without hitting naked women. Unless you go to the brothel until you're out of coin, there's perhaps five minutes of bare breasts to see, and despite what you might argue, those scenes serve a purpose and are not just there for horny nerds.

No matter how much you enjoyed DA2, you cannot deny there are things TW did better. DA2 turned most of DAO's dark world into an odd cartoony place with lots of crazy people. The attempts at dark and drama felt forced, like Leandra's death, and Orsino spontaneously turning into a harvester.
