After reading the books I find that a lot of the criticism surrounding Loghain's actions in-game are somewhat unfounded. I find them to be quite believeable. He does what he believes necessary to keep Ferelden safe, and (like Maric always says) doesn't really listen to reason after he's made up his mind.

Though, it seems a lot of people think his actions are uncharacteristic?
