Single favorite character in the BioWare pantheon of characters. She's so wierd and fun to have as a companion in the game.

Eve Myles absolutely killed it as her.

What do you think BSN do you think she'll make an appearence? Does she ever die in DA2? If not that would make it more likely, at least in terms of basic probability.

DEAR GOD!

I hope not, she was the dumbest character I have ever encountered in any media ever. The Keeper should never have sacrificed herself for someone as idiotic as Merrill.

I imagine it's possible, but can't see any special reason for her to be there in DA I

I kind of want to see a fight between my Dalish Warden and Merrill, but I know that's relegated to 'headcanon'.

Tbh, if Merrill returns, I'd rather like it to be with Isabela. I loved how those two were like best friends, and I like to think after the end of DA2, they sailed off on a ship together for more adventure. Along with Hawke, on playthroughs where one of them was romanced.

Woah, why all the hate for Merril? People really misunderstood her character it seems.

I didn't especially dislike any companion in DA universe - ot sure why Merrill deserves to be crucified.

Oh wells.

:crying: poor Merril. Good point! Also, good chance for character development years later, instead of being a 20-something she can be a 30 something badass.

Its hard to misunderstand a moron, mind you she's still not as bad as Anders.

She was also my favorite in Dragon Age II. I thought she was a great character and companion; intelligent, proactive, and dedicated to putting an end to the plight of the People. Merrill is a unique companion, especially with her dry humor often going over people's heads (including Hawke's), as well as dealing with culture shock in a human society.

That was a neat surprise, since I watched Torchwood; much like hearing Claudia Black's voice as Morrigan, since I enjoyed Farscape.

Yes, Merrill can die protecting the mages from pro-templar Hawke if he sides with Meredith when she orders the Right of Annulment against all the mages in Kirkwall, as long as the Dalish apostate isn't loyal to the Champion (with insufficient points in Friendship or Rivalry). Merrill has a final confrontation with Hawke (where she might be persuaded against this course of action, but otherwise, she can die); she goes down protecting men, women, and children. A true hero to the end.

My apostate Hawke protected the mages from Meredith and her templars, so that was never an issue for me, and she remained at the side of my blood mage Hawke while everyone else left. I suppose it would be awkward to see her in Inquisition, since she's with my apostate Hawke.

What was wrong with anders? Ideological extremist, terrorist ****** with a guilt ridden streak. Excellent character.

He's the guy you love to hate, I really liked his role in DA2.

Excellent and I quote means companion you wish wasent forced upon you during the main questline that is destined to annoy and pester you during the duration of the game.

God you DA fans are so picky! Why can't we all just go with the flow and enjoy the game as a whole :)

She was by far the worst character in DA2. I mean Hubert was millies better, and he has strikes like Orlesian Courtesean. I am pretty sure she would be in top 3 worst companions from Bioware.

EDIT: And Anders was best written character in DA2. I hope that all the characters in DA3 will be at least as good as him and integrated with the main plot.  Merril had nothing to do with either Qunari, nor the Templar/mages. Droping a nuke on Sundermountain wouldn't deprive you of anything, save the Flemeth cryptic "Ill be back!".

I kind of liked Merril, it'd be nice to see her return. You chase down some random elf blood mage to his clan, you go to confront the clan's keeper about it and there she is. All grown up and still babbling like a loony.

Merrill isn't a moron, she is a Dalish elf who has no experience with human society. It's an example of culture shock, not stupidity. She also uses dry humor, which some characters don't recognize:

Anders: Do the Dalish ever have fancy parties? I always imagined they celebrated most big occasions by eating mushrooms and acorns. And maybe dancing naked around a campfire.

Merrill: You know, I was wondering when the naked dancing was going to start. And the human sacrifice. I mean, you just can't throw a decent party without kidnapping a human child and offering her entrails to the sky gods.

Anders: Really?

Merrill: No.

Some people also think Merrill is a moron for not sharing the Andrastian view of Spirits and Demons, but that is a difference of religious views:

Anders: Maybe you don't really understand the difference between spirits and demons.

Merrill: Did I ask you?

Anders: Spirits were the first children of the Maker, but He turned his back on them to dote on His mortal creations. The ones who resented this became demons, driven to take everything mortals had and gain back the Maker's favor.

Merrill: Your "Maker" is a story you humans use to explain the world. We have our own stories. I don't need to borrow yours.

We also see Merrill's intellect time and again, when she uses magic proficiently for several years, including the scene where she can tell if templar recruit Keran has been possessed by a demon, or her knowledge about the history and culture of the People. Merrill is one of the smartest companions in the narrative.

I really hope she doesn't. I have everything nothing against her but I'd rather no previous companions return, especially ones that can die.

Merrill threads are fun though and we could use the drama. It can help break the monotony of the 'lets discuss topics' since Bioware has released little to no concrete info about the game other than they are making a game and Inquisition is its title.

Imo Sebastion is smarter than a bloodmage who is crazed by a mirror and is the reason of the demise of her entire clan. Posted Image
