it is really interesting to me to see this phenomenon, of which I am certainly a consumer, where fans create facebook pages and other social media shrines to videogame characters ex tali who thanks to the talent of creators really take on a life of their own even after their "canon" stories as recounted in the videogames proper are complete. i wonder whether future bioware games will inegrate social media directly as a way for writers, producers and players alike to continue their engagement with the characters from a rich universe such as ME. Ie where fans pay for access to status updates/blog posts/photos from characters in the video game post-conclusion of the formal in-game storyline. This could be a revenue stream for the game publisher (ridiculously low required investment), a creative outlet for writers who maybe are dissatisfied with the technical/financial limitations required for production (if only we had a chance to do x y or z in the game), and a psychologcal valve for the fans who aren't quite ready to let go. I for one certainly wouldn't mind reading about such "continuing adventures" especially since i lack the imagination to construct such adventures myself.
Also interesting to see developed in future mass effect-related titles is integration of other online social vectors such as having the characters text your phone... something that was attempted in mass effect 3 but not very successfully; but which could lead to VERY enhanced gamer engagement with the storyline even more so than the me writers were already, amazingly, able to achieve already.
I wonder whether anyone else thinks either of these forms are viable ways in which bioware could continue / expand the mass effect universe.

Idk, but any storytelling needs to stay the hell away from social media. Nobody should have to check Twitter to find out wtf happened to the people on the Citadel. What a farce.

I don't social media much but I have a facebook though and have few friends. I hope they don;t focus on stupid social media or anything like that. If I had more friends that be different. Media isn't everything. They should focus on the Stories and Game snot stupid media, and I don't feel like paying for pointless things either.

I don't know what what you describe has to do with social media. If a developer wants to publish additional material in forms of stories, comics or whatever, why does that have to do with it.
And, no, I don't want to receive text messages from my character's love interest in a game. "Shepard, it's been a while since you last came to Omega. Why don't you stop by and catch up with me? Let's have some fun tonight! xoxo Aria".
Yea, thanks. Have fun explaining that to your colleagues at work.
