 Hi all,

just started ME2, and I have a question about Lair of the Shadow broker.

How does DLC work in this game?
When I buy and download it, can I start this mission at any time?
Or is there a "trigger"  point in the game?

Please help, Liara is my fave character, and I cannot imagine ME2 without her!

There's a trigger point for some ME2 DLC, including this one. Basically it only becomes available when you encounter Liara during the normal course of the story (she does have an appearance in the regular story, but limited to giving info about other NPCs and some minor sidequests). Unfortunately there is an annoying bug which it's known to prevent recruitment of one or both characters Liara has info on if you do the Shadow Broker mission before getting them, so best to make it the last major thing you do on the Ilium hub world. Don't leave it too late though as it has a lot of good loot answer can be revisited for more goodies.

The earliest you are able to do the dlc is after Horizon. when you go to Ilum. I usually do the dlc after the suicide mission.

is there a particular reason to do it at the end?

Personal preference. I feel there's too much loot to leave it for after SM, especially since you can keep going back until all the extra upgrades drop. Another useful thing is being able to respec your squadmates' points, which you may want to do for several missions including the SM. Lastly, and especially if Liara was the ME1 LI, you can treat it almost as Shep's loyalty mission which is a reason to do it in mid game. But YMMV. Do it when it seems right to you.

I do it only to get through the game quicker.

difeerent dialogue with the shadow broker before fighting him.

Also if you have T'Soni in the cabin, she makes a comment about you defeating the collectors and if any squadmember died.
