So I installed Shadows of Amn, Throne of Bhaal, the Throne of Bhaal patch, and the G3 patch. I am encountering a problem when I start where the game acts like a bunch of the keys on the keyboard are being held down. I can get through the character creation fine, except for the Naming, where it comes out as a mash of numbers and letters. But once I get to the game, it is stuck on the divine spells page. Everytime I switch to something else, in a few seconds it switches back to the spells page, making playing the game impossible. I'm not sure what is casuing this, so if anyone knows, help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I don't know what is causing your problem, but there are various programmes that can interfere with the BG installation process - like browsers and virus checkers. Possibly that might be a cause. If you want to check that you could install the game after starting the computer up in protected mode.

Also make sure you do not install to the default location (use something like c:\\games\\BG) as Vista protects the Program Files location and this can also cause problems with older games.

So I reinstalled the game (Just Shadows of Amn, no patches or ToB this time) to just the C: drive and I disconnected my keyboard, and it is still having the problem. The gibberish in the name and biography section is coming out like "667fghkie" stuff. I am running it on Vista, might there be a compatibility problem?

Some people have found problems running the game with Vista and Windows 7, though experience is very variable. You could try creating a shortcut to BGmain.exe and ticking the box for Windows XP compatibility.

Did you test installing (and playing) the game while in protected mode to check whether any other programs are interfering?

Game works fine on Vista and I don't need any compatibility settings etc. I'd agree with the posts above, see what other software is running - e.g. a driver for your wireless keyboard / mouse, anything else similar such as hotkey or programmable button software.
