Thought I give all avenues a go at trying to solve this problem...
Dragon
Age crashes for me right after the splash screen. My systems exceeds
the minimum requirements, and I've insured that I have the latest video
and audio drivers, as well as the latest version of Direct X. I've also
shut down every background application that I know can be shut down
safely.
Anyone have any insights as to what I might try next?

Is it Blue Screen crashing or do you get an OS pop-up saying something?

Hit play game, get the small box splash screen. Screen goes to black and then a split second later, CTD and a box telling me how sorry microsoft is that I've been inconvenienced and I should send them an error report.
This is the "error signature" if that helps in any way:
AppName: daorigins.exe AppVer: 1.0.9353.0 ModName: daorigins.exe
ModVer: 1.0.9353.0 Offset: 000153f0

XP home edition w/ SP3.
I have a friend who swears that he always has problems with Soundblaster drivers and suggests I try disabling it and going with onboard sound. I may try that tonight when I get home from work, but the one thing that has me doubtful is the fact that the game's music is playing at the original screen (with the configure, uninstall, play, etc. options). I would think if the problem were soundcard related, the game would crash at that initial screen.

I'm having the same problem only I don't even get to the splash screen. I press play, it looks like it's loading (In task manager it's using 41k memory) then after about 3 mins it drops to using half the amount of memory and then just crashes. I've only once been able to get an actual error and it mentioned something about a fmod .dll and me not having it on my computer, since then though I've been unable to get the same error.

Anyone have any suggestions? EA support has been completely useless so far.

I found the solution for mine. the rampage mo board had automatic OC and when I disabled it everything worked. Very finicky game.

I'm having a similar problem. The starting movies work fine, but as soon as it actually starts to try to start a new game Vista says that "Dragon Age has stopped working." I'm running with UAC off so it's not an admin authority thing. Vista Home Premium 64 with 4 gb of memory, ASUS G50VT notebook, NVIDIA Geforce 9800M GS video.

I was having the launch crash as well, but I was able to get my game to launch. I think its an issue with monitor screen setting or video issues. At least for me. I've got a Dell 1920x1080p widescreen with hdmi connection. I went to the "Configure" in the launch screen and changed my "Video" setting from widescreen to normal and busted down resolution to 1280x1024. Saved and launched the game without crash and changed my video setting back to my original widescreen settings. So far no crashes. So I guess until its confirmed or sorted out, I'll be launching this way to play.
Hope this will work for anyone else having trouble.

Sa-weet! Thank you very much, CyrisDram!!!! I got it to work the same way, choosing a lower display setting and then changing it back once the game is running.
Once again, proving the best tech support is other users on the forums

Cyris: I had tried that, but to no avail. Still unable to run on my laptop, although it is running now on my (older) desktop.

You all may have already tried this and the method of changing compatibility with the shortcut setting to Windows XP (SP2) really works. It is weird because I tried this with Mass Effect and it did not work, but for Origins, its solved it just like that.

Sith & Lavinnya, having the same problem. I turned off all of my Anti Virus Software and the game now plays. Note it is completely turned off, creating permissions for the game did nothing.

Just wanted to point out, I have to set the Aspect Ratio to normal and Anti-Aliasing to off. Just doing one or the other results in the game crashing. Setting the Aspect Ratio to Normal also automatically sets the resolution to 800 x 600. Once the game is running, I go back to 1920 x 1200, Widescreen aspect, and bump the anti-aliasing to 4x and the game runs without problems.
