I understand why people might get rubbed the wrong way but I have a few counterarguments to some of the Ash hate.

1. Ashley is xenophobic. I think she's just cautious, I mean I would be around anyone new coming aboard, she wants them to earn her trust where she doesn't feel that way for humans.

2.
Ashley is a God-freak. Ashley mentions God once in the game and its when you get to know the character and are asking her about herself. Not all soliders believe in God but people shouldn't be so harsh to call her a God freak because she believes in something. I think it adds to her character and makes her stronger.

3. Ashley doesn't stop mistrusting you because of Cerberus. As a member of the military would you trust someone who fought alongside the enemy right away? You'd have to rebuild the trust back up.

I'll probably get flame for this but I'd like to hear other common arguments for the character. I've spent a few playthroughs where I romanced her and I really enjoy her character and the depth and quality of her conversations, even if there are some character flaws (which all the characters have them.)

Ashley just has an edgy personality, either you love it or hate it. It does make her one of the more realistic characters in my eyes, that being said, I still don't like her.

Ugly, rude, racist.  And not even common "i don't like turians" racist.  It's really mean comments like "I Can't tell the aliens from the animals!"  When on the CITADEL.  In the EMBASSIES.  How insensitive can you get?

She's just a total b****.

I don't like the fact that she can't have a relationship with female shepard. I don't like Traynor.

I don't know, I'm not sure if she's racist. Does anyone remember the talk with the Terra Firma guy on the citadel in ME1? I think Ash is just untrusting of Alien nationals on an Alliance ship. Does that make her a racist? No, thats not racism.

"I can't tell the aliens from the animals!"

That is racist.

Because she's probably the most realistic character Shepard can recruit, and therefore, people find her boring.

She also doesn't bend over backwards to ingratiate herself, unlike some other (more popular) characters.

How they butchered her in M3.

And the stupid, "You're in a the presence of a God!" line in ME2.

Perhaps, that's mild though compared to other characters. Eg the C-sec officer and Volus in Mass Effect 2 with the missing credit chit. That's racism, they're picking on her because she is a quarian.

In her defense some of the aliens in this game do look like animals, after all they were designed to be. I mean even Shepard calls a Hanar a jellyfish.

There's a difference between passing derogatory remarks and actual discrimination based on race.

I'd actually put Vega, Jacob, and Zaeed as more realistic, Vega being the most.

Considering the fact that many, if not most ME aliens do resemble Earthly animals, I consider a fairly accurate statement.

In ME1 she was just a complete and utter B#@%$ and racist like anything on top of that! Didn't have a second thought not picking her on Virmire.

I couldn't stand her attitude on Horizon, and then her attitude in ME3. There's also her creepy stare in the first two games, followed by her creepy stare in ME3 covered up in a lot of make-up and a ridiculously out of regulation hairstyle.
Plus, I really miss the Power Ranger outfit (never thought I'd say that).

I didn't think she was a "God freak" and liked how she didn't preach to you if your Shep didn't believe in God.

I don't know about her racism. I shared her view about not letting the Alliance aliens roam the ship, but other than that, well its been a long time since I last played ME1 and I can not recall whatelse she says.

I also don't care for the Soldier class. I'm just not much for the typical shooter classes so having Kaidan, a Sentinel, fits far better for me.

In ME3 her character development seems to stop once she's on the Normandy. Well, what little character development there is, she mostly talks about her sister.

I know everyone thinks Kaidan was boring but for me, the boring human in ME1 is Ashley.

Her cosmetic change in 3 didn't help. She got a makeover and has one actual armor set, her others are that face mask with her hair down. What soldier wears those outfits and has her hair down in battle?! Considering that Ashely's ME1 dsesign was for a normal, typical, female soldier and not a sex symbol to see them go back on it ruined the character completely.

No hate, but she had some poorly written lines from time to time.

The god thing (even if it wasn't too preachy), poetry and the partial xenophobia (or atleast mistrust) are big turn off's in my book.

Note... Stuff like that needs to be there to add variety and personality to the other characters. However ashleys mix just wasn't my cup of coffee (psh tea trolllol).
