Why all the Ashley hate?

Shepard got reconstructed after falling from space onto a planet's surface and doesn't look like it.
Ashley looked like she went to Beverly Hills and got a whole lot of work done (e.g. botox, collagen lip injections, etc.

Put a helmet on her when going on missions. Therefore you won't wax nostalgic about her 'military bun' in the first game.
Sheesh.
Doesn't help all cut scenes though.

I'm not necessarily an Ash-Hater, but she's way too soldier-like. She has this die for the Alliance attiude and I hate such people. And while I do think you can argue about Ash not being a racist, you can't denie her negative feelings for aliens, and the " Humanity should stand alone " thinking. She doesn't want to rule over aliens, but she would rather avoid them, which is at least in my book not a desirable, but just a dumb thougt.
I serve in the Military and I would die for my country, is that a bad thing?
Derp... uhm... well I'm far from a soldier but... well I'd probably still volunteer to take a bullet for my country (if it comes down to it)...
I don't think thats a bad thing. A good thing indeed... and I do have quite a bit of respect for people voluntarily going into the "trenches" or so to speak.
However, I think the point was that it should be for the right reasons.
I kinda think our country is worth defending, but wars of decidedly conquest? Not so much.
Thats another debate though.

She's cautious around aliens simply because she doesn't have a lot of experience working with them. You learn this if you actually talk to her, and her reasons for her caution are actually rational, especially when you consider that, in the Mass Effect universe, not everyone is the best of chums. Least of all humanity and the Turians, what with the First Contact War and veterans from both sides still being around and all. People being happy-clappy best friends would make a lot less sense, given that one side were willingly opening mass relays that could unleash another hideous horror on the galaxy.
Her views make a great deal of sense given the nature of her upbringing and her own experiences, and despite all that she grows to lose most of her prejudices through working alongside you. Yes, Ash is conservative, but she's understandably horrified and disgusted when she learns you're working with Cerberus, who are basically the ****ing Third Reich, in Mass Effect 2, once she gets over the fact that last time she saw you you were making planetfall sans spaceship. She also makes her views regarding Terra Firma clear; she doesn't think much of them. She's hardly the card-carrying Klan member so many here are eager to paint her as.
Plus she's a badass; it takes a quad of steel to pull a gun on Wrex when you're not on the next continent.
That said, I don't like how they tried to "sex her up" in ME3. It just looks so out-of-character for her, and I much preferred her no-nonsense tomboy look. The fact that she was practical in that way was what made her stick out from other female squadmates. I dunno, with any luck Bioware will include something akin to her classic look in the next alternate appearance pack (because you just know they've got another one on the way).

She isnt racist, she's cautious. she doesnt hate aliens, but she doesnt trust them easily. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE.
She questions shepard alot in ME2 and ME3. Yeah, well when someone you knew well, who used to be in the army goes and starts working with terrorists, would you trust them again so quickly?
I see her as more of an equal of shepard rather than a massive fan of shep (TALI AND LIARA.....), making her much better than the others.
She's also my favourite romance option. Most interesting of the lot.
And if people are going to hate her because she's ugly in ME1/2, then you shouldnt be playing games. AND AN FYI, she looks better than the majority of females in the series (that includes her ME1 look as well)

I'd say she's just about even with Jacob (for me), for being the most boring squad mate; next I'd pick Kaiden.
I don't think it is a problem with human squaddies. I like Miranda, Zaeed , Kasumi and James.

I agree. If theres one thing they ****ed up on with ashley its how she looks in ME3. She doesnt look bad by any means IMO, but she shouldve kept her back. And personally, i hate her new standard outfit (her alternate one and her from ashes ones are great though)

I always saw ashley as prejudice or maybe ignorent rather racist, and all because a moment before her famous "i cant tell betwin the people and the animals speach" i saw a hanar in the distance (the first time i ever saw one)and wondered if that is some kind of a space dog.

There's seriously something wrong with you people. You're acting like she's a bad person, and then you list off one of your reasons for hating her, because you think she's ugly.
How about you look in the mirror first, and hear yourself talk, before you say things like that. I mean goddamn.

Liberal
Atheist
Passive
and completely trusting of ALL aliens.
The fact that she is none of these, makes her stand out more from characters like Liara/Tali, and makes her a more compelling character. And being none of these things, doesn't make her a bad person, as some uneducated people would "like" to believe. I'll admit her character was butchered in ME3 cause her writer was absent, but Ash in ME1 was one of the best written characters, and the most human of the bunch.
I didn't want Ashley to act like Liara and Tali. I loved who she was, and thought she was a great person.

A lot of Ashley hate comes from close minded people who don't understand her character. We live in a very politically correct time, with the current generation these days being very quick to judge other people. They expect Ashley to behave the way they expect a young woman in a futuristic space setting should act, which is:
Liberal
Atheist
Passive
and completely trusting of ALL aliens.

i agree with everything you said, but i dont think her character was TOTALLY butchered in ME3. However her look was overdone, and those deleted scenes shouldnt have been cut out

Which female characters are like that? Liara is neither liberal, atheist nor (ME2+) passive. Samara has none of it. Tali is a bit passive, but she has none of the other traits. Jack is certainly not passive, certainly not trusting and she simply doesn't care about the rest. Miranda is certainly not passive or trusting, doesn't strike me as liberal either. The only one that is liberal, passive and alien-trusting is Kelly. None of them are atheist and the Asari are overtly religious.Mdoggy1214 wrote...
