Now go post it in every other thread on BSN and Bioware will be able to finally close it down. Hell, post it all over the internet.

I still think she's the most realistic character in the series.

I am sure people calling her xenophobic would be hugging Krogans if they saw them in real life and dating vorcha.

Rasism is a part of live, it helps to save unique culters, if person doesnt become ****.
Javik also rasist, but he isnt boring. Ashley is boring, but only because she's soldier to her bones, not free bounty hunter like Zaeed.

+100500 ))) Krogan rebelled because they thought other races war too weak. Who knows how much secrets of the protheans keeps Asari because they think that other races "too young". Batarians - no comments. Geth kills all Quarians in some scenarios - but why they destroyed farm ships? Whole galaxy rasistic exept for good shepard.

I remember that in ME2 Bioware said that commander Shepard woulnt be gay. Shepard isnt rasist, shepard isnt homophob, Shepard loves blue childerns..  Shepard boring himself. Nah, want some "Heralt-of-rivia" tipe hero in ME4.

Shepard can be a lot more racist than Ashley if you choose to. About the rest, Geth are not racist but simply cruel beyond reason with the Quarians, in the Morning War as well as in ME3 if you allow them to. And surely there are racists among the Asari, Krogan and Batarians (damn this part sounds like a song in my ears), but not the whole races.

I would be racist against aliens to if people looked down on my family for a military decision that saved lives. Ashley is perfectly fine. Someone put it best a while ago. Ashley represents conservative mentalitys while Kaiden Liberal. More young people are liberal, so more ashley hate.

Ashley gets a lot of hate because she's human, and from many peoples point of view automatically starts off less interesting than the alien characters. Because of this people are less willing to overlook things that they percieve as being character flaws.

Unlike Tali, Garrus, and Liara she also doesn't worship at the altar of Shepard quite as often, and questions Shepard's judgement in both Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3. This is an unforgiveable sin in many players eyes, who prefer their squadmates to idolize Shepard. It is no small coincidence that Team Dextro and Liara are far and away the most popular squadmates while Ashley tends to be very polarizing.

Now to be fair Liara is very polarizing as well and has a very vocal hate club, but thats motivated more by perceived writer's favoritism than Liara's actions or dialogue in the series. And unlike with Ashley it doesn't prevent her from finishing at or near the top of every favorite character poll with a decent sample size. I think the key difference is that Liara doesn't really question Shepard, while Ashley does.

Ashley also tends to be a misunderstood character. Some people came away with the mistaken impression in Mass Effect 1 that she was a racist bible-thumper, but that isn't the direction her writer(s) were going with her at all. She obviously believes in some form of a higher power or afterlife, but is never preachy about it. And while Ashley is somewhat distrustful of aliens, she's also hostile towards the Terra Firma party and will tell Tali that she hopes her contributions will help end discrimination against Quarians. She's neither a racist or a religious fundamentalist, but some players are very black and white in how they view things. To these players there isn't much room for a middle ground between atheism and religious extremism or racism and tolerance.

A lot of Ashley hate comes from close minded people who don't understand her character. We live in a very politically correct time, with the current generation these days being very quick to judge other people. They expect Ashley to behave the way they expect a young woman in a futuristic space setting should act, which is:

Liberal
Atheist
Passive
and completely trusting of ALL aliens.

The fact that she is none of these, makes her stand out more from characters like Liara/Tali, and makes her a more compelling character. And being none of these things, doesn't make her a bad person, as some uneducated people would "like" to believe. I'll admit her character was butchered in ME3 cause her writer was absent, but Ash in ME1 was one of the best written characters, and the most human of the bunch.

I didn't want Ashley to act like Liara and Tali. I loved who she was, and thought she was a great person.

i agree with everything you said, but i dont think her character was TOTALLY butchered in ME3. However her look was overdone, and those deleted scenes shouldnt have been cut out

To be honest, i wasn't as upset about her looks as I was with her character. All those deleted scenes with Ashley should've been in the game, and i'll admit that her caution towards Shepard, while understandable, felt a bit overdone.

As for her new look. I don't mind the slightly different face, or the hair being down. But the outfit was really stupid and made no sense for her to wear, given who she is and the things she said in ME1. In fact it may be safe to assume that if the fans never raised a fuss about it, she may not have gotten her alternate armored outfit.

I disagree. Her updated character model (like all the other updated models) looks better than the original. They let her hair down and gave her some make up. No harm done.

Well, good for you. Ash was my favourite ME character, and I pretty much cringed everytime I saw her in ME3. Posted Image

Fair enough.

I'd have to be religious to genuinely do that. I'm not, so it won't.

Didn't like Ash in ME1...absolutely adore her in ME3....

Ash in ME1 was ruthless....no she was not 'Speciest' nor was she a raving bible thumper...but she was ruthless, I do not find anything to like about that at all....I don't like Miranda or Liara for the same reason, at least Jack had a reason.

Poor old Liara gets a double whammy from me actually...I also have no interest in damsels in distress...aka Liara and Tali....BW is not very good at putting female characters together unfortunately, they have three flavors, ruthless, damsel or a combination of both....Kasumi, Gianna and ME3 Ash are when BW finally got it right....:wizard:

ME3 Ash...I love the very realistic feel about her character (no, not her dress sense) and the fact that she is one of the few not on her knees before the great Shep....the sadly small amount of dialog she gets in ME3 is engaging, involved and very human....she has some of the best dialog in the game (sorry but Garrus tops all...:P...)....And as for her distrust of Shep, very understandable and I do love how Shep finally gets decent dialog in response, his remindering her that building trust goes both ways...I like that, the dialogs with Ash felt like real and well thought out conversations.

I don't hate Ashley, OP. While the third point could have been better written, I appreciate the first two.

I just wish they hadn't sexed her up in the final installment. Let her wear a crew uniform like she did in ME1 with regulation hair, like a professional soldier. Maybe give her a job aboard the ship, in the Armory again, perhaps, instead of sealing her in the observation deck 'til Kingdom come.

You know, funny thing is that I thought the pony-tail bun and casual uniform was one of the more attractive things of Ashley in ME1. Even the the art book had a few more professional designs that I thought were far more attractive... including an outright pony-tail, and a more uniform... well, uniform.

A lot of people have criticized ME2 and ME3 for moving towards mainstream shooter, but I think the bigger concern is moving the female characters towards mainstream video game designs.

Totally agree, and that goes across the board. One of the things I really appreciate about Tali is that she wasn't oversexualized, and I felt that way about Ashley in ME1, too.

Miranda, on the other hand... well...

That's strongly oversimplifying it.

I'm personally more libertarian, and I dislike Ashley simply because she rubs me the wrong way. She was fine (generally) in ME1. In ME3, she just grated on me (constantly questioning me / distrusting me, overall annoying attitude etc.)
