Looking back, do you still feel as upset about the ending, or did you come to terms with it?

Hey,

I've just gotten around to play ME 3 through for a second time, because I wanted to see the Omega/Leviathan DLC (both very good) and the Extended Cut for myself.

I, as many of you, was pretty pissed about the original endings, I don't want to go into too much detail, as basically everything has been said, but when after putting at least 100-150. into a franchise it leaves you unsatisfied in the end, something is wrong.

That being said, I really appreciate, the Extended Cut, it really shows, that Bioware cares (they can't be happy about the backlash themselves) and it manages to salvage some stuff at least, but still none of the 4 options give me feeling of "Mission Accomplished" I had after defeating Saren or managing to pull my whole squad alive out of the Collector Base. I get that it is difficult to say "Oh look, a happy ending! Ponies and rainbows for everyone!" after a war that has destroyed a s'''t-ton of galactic civilization, but still.

In the end I'll always pick destroy, even if it means synthetic suicide (RIGHT AFTER PROVING THE BRAT WRONG, BY REUNITING GETH AND QUARIANS, goddamnit!), because even though Snythesis is kinda the "best" ending (everyone's alive, and equal, no mass murder etc.) it just is one too much.
I'm aware that we're talking about a sci-fi game, but what I really like about ME is that everything is explained, like, sure we have FTL and it works like this and that, or sure, our guns never run out of ammo, because of this and that.
But a magic beam, rewriting everyones DNA? What? I can buy the destroy option and its EMP-like shockwave at least. Also wasn't strength through equality always kinda of dominant theme throughout the series? For your squad and in the end for brining together the whole galactic community? Why lose that?

In any case, this is just some stuff that went through my head, after replaying ME3.
How do you feel about it, still as upset about it?

Confusion. Rage. Disappointment.

That's my timeline.

And I agree 100% that there wasn't any sense of accomplishment at the end.

It's still a narrative, thematic and logical mess. The emotion I feel is still confusion, so that hasn't changed. I still desire a discussion with the developers over the ending and the game at large.

I WILL NEVER COME TO TERMS WITH THE ENDING. IT HAS RUINED EVERYTHING. BIOWARE ARE BAD. EA ARE HORRIBLE. RABBLERABBLERABBLERABBLE.

Ok, it's alright. The rest of BSN don't have to post here now.

The endings - outside of Destroy - are still confusing. Priority: Earth is still Gears of War with the serial numbers filed off.

All that said, the Extended Cut was much better. It made Destroy more palatable and the other options more horrific.

Don't pretend Destroy isn't confusing.

This was a joke.

All Synthetics die.
All Reapers and their creatures die.
All Mass Relays are damaged.
The Citadel is damaged.
It appears all people will implants + other technology is fine.
Everything is rebuilt.
No one has green eyes.

Don't pretend everyone else finds it confusing.

Destroy is straightforward.  All "synthetics" die including Reapers, Geth, and EDI. I assume this means sentient synthetics, so VIs don't die.

It certainly is less confusing and horrifying than Control ("I am God.  Fear me!") or Synthesis ("Me hat is green, am I a leprechaun?")

Makes me think about how Bioware have some of the best writers but they never seems to feel like they need to patch their stuff liker Conrad's paragon in ME2 Jowan's intentions in DA:O A few quests I can't recall in KOTOR 1 and 2.

They just never seems to have the guts to go and fix something broken, they prefer explaining it in a lazy way in another game. Or concentrate on fixing bugs like easy ways to level up because of a conversation glitch.
Sad.
That's how I feel about the endings.
They rushed, and now they completely refuse to fix anything.
Bioware... It's not like it would hurt fixing something for a change.

I'm completely fine with the EC, and to me the sense of accomplishment is there, also I - since I read lots of books and watch films with many plot twists - don't find the narrative broken at all, and I see the logic in there (not IT). I know that I'm in the minority here, and I'm ok with it.

I'm fine with it thanks to the Extended Cut. I can understand why people were upset, but I don't think it's productive to dwell on it at this stage.

I came to terms with the horribly written and executed endings after the EC. The EC was just putting polish on a turd sandwich. It's still a turd sandwich. I enjoy the game now, primarily for the combat and multiplayer and trying different classes. The series, I still, no matter how poor the endings are I consider to the best trilogy in the history of video games and my favorite scifi series since Starwars ( The originals, with exception of Revenge of the Sith- that was actually decent).

That just goes to show you how amazing ME1 and ME2 are. And how great ME3 was until the last 15 minutes.

The endings are done. It's over. Move on. Play the game or don't.

There's no reason to be truly upset anymore. It's no secret the endings are garabage pieces of writing, but there's no reason to discuss about this fact anymore, as it's a generally accepted fact. That's not stopping people from liking it, but people liking it doesn't mean it's actually good.

I came to terms with the endings before the game was even released by reading the leaked script.

I was never "upset", more confused as to the direction they decided to go. As soon as mars happened though, if I am being honest, reduced my confidence on me liking where the reaper arc was going.

There is enough there to be enjoyable, but you really have to think of ME3 as just a game, and nothing more, imo, to really enjoy the story(kinda like treating it like a Michael Bay:Bad Boys plot)

Mass Effect 3's ending is the greatest written thing in the history of fiction.

I reviled the endings mostly for the same reasons that others have already stated, but what really bothered me more than others, it seems, was Bioware's cliffhanger ending on Shepard's fate. They couldn't have just followed through on their promise of different outcomes? Shepard's fate is EXACTLY the kind of plot point that would qualify as a vast difference in conclusions without really taking extra work. He's dead, or he's not. Just make it clear.

I really want to know what happens to my squad like Liara and everything and why the geth or EDI fixable. Till I get those answers I'll never feel complete. The only reason I decide to go with destroy after choosing control for awhile is because at least it left me with that breathe scene that made me feel like it wasn't over and there will be a post story

Shepard either dies, becomes a part of all life in the galaxy, is ascended into a higher plane of exsistence, or lives.

Seems like he or she does have multiple outcomes, but just not ones that you like.

But I'm going to drop this now, because I don't want to fight.

Don't really care anymore, can't get myself to play through the Trilogy anymore right now, just seems pointless now. I have aleady experienced the journey a few times but after all this ending stuff I just can't drive myself to play anymore.

Bioware Fudged up Shepard's grand finale and seemingly don't give a damn so they have made their bed for the future, but I wont be there to care when they fail again.

Yeah good luck with that ME4 or whatever they decide to call it without Shepard, World War II, different story view point thing.

I foresee a cliched mediocre wannabe fail game on the horizon. But what do I know after this last dlc's trailer is released and denies all I have been wishing for I'm gone for good, my story ends with Shepard.

But look on the bright side people like me will soon be gone for good and the die hard "purchase anything mass effect" fans can have peace. The BSN whiners and trolls like myself will be a distant memory. New fans will no doubt flock and take the place of the old once the new game is released but loosing fans of the old trilogy will affect the franchise down the road in some way shape or form.
