I just finished playing this game for the first time. I was a Human Female Mage and I romanced Alistair. Sadly I didn't manage to get a love scene out of him but I managed to make him sleep with Morrigan so we both could survive. I didn't know I could "harden" him to make him more cold hearted or something but I'm glad I didn't do it cause I love him as the sweet adorable tank that he is. I made anora queen by herself and alistair was happy to give it to her and leave court, I killed Loghain and got Anora's full support. I got the ending of asking her for a title and riches and she gave me an estate. I made it clear I was still a grey warden (I am headcanoning that Alistair and Hazel (my mage) use it the rebuild the Grey Wardens with the Estate as their headquaters).
I personally don't care about finding Morrigan. I got along well with her and was happy to let her keep her little demon/god baby thing.
What I want to know is are there any expansions that take place post ending? I know about awakening but I see so many downloadables that I don't really know which one is the right one or best one to pick. If none of them take place post ending then which one offers more for the money?
I love my ending

Awakenings follows directly on from Origins (it is set 6 months after the events of Origins). It is an expansion and is pretty meaty - should give you a good 12-15 hours playing time. Tells the story of the new Warden Commander in Ferelden (your warden. You can start with a new Orlesian one, but if you do that you won't get to import your decisions from Origins, and Alistair will be king) trying to rebuild the wardens and clear the remaining darkspawn out of the land. It is also good to do because you get to make one or two decisions which have consequences in DA2. I like it a lot, despite the fact that it has a few bugs, and you will have to invent a reason in your head why Alistair is off doing something else for the course of the game (maybe he's gone to help the Dwarves clear out stragglers in the Deep Roads for a bit or whatever? Up to you).
Golems of Amgarrak then follows chronologically. It is DLC, so only really has about 3 hours playing time in it. It is set entirely in a Deep Road thaig so you won't be doing much in the way of exploring Ferelden. But if you liked the Dwarves' story, it's a fun (and extremely difficult) dungeon crawl.
Witch Hunt comes last. Again it's DLC, so 3 hours ish, and it got a lot of stick for recycling location maps (all four maps you use in the game have all been used before in Origins and Awakenings) but if that doesn't bother you it offers a little more closure on the Morrigan story thread. Offers the chance to run away with her if you romanced her, or to say goodbye, but there is nothing in the way of direct answers about what she's up to or what's going on with her and Flemeth or anything.
Those are the canon DLCs that follow chronologically. Leliana's Song is a prequel and gives you more background to Leliana's story before the events of Origins. Darkspawn Chronicles is a standalone, alternative universe "what if" scenario that lets you play the Battle of Denerim as the darkspawn and kill all your Origins companions, if that appeals (opinion among fans is divided on that one).
The only other DLCs Bioware released were The Stone Prisoner, Warden's Keep and Return to Ostagar, which are all played during Origins. It is possible to play them after Origins, but they will take you back to your party camp, with Morrigan present, etc, so it is assumed that it is all still pre-Battle of Denerim.
If you're on the PC, some people have written mods which give you extra story (essentially dungeon crawls with a bit of plot thrown in). But none of these are canon. And I can't tell you much about them as I've not played them.

I agree with some of what's above. Truth is:
Witch Hunt - Offers closure on the Morrigan story and the DLC actually only lasts about 90 minutes (with you dying and all), so it is extremely short. Even at that, Morrigan only shows up at the last five minutes and you get to have a final conversation with her that actually raises more questions than answers then. I would say it is worth it based on the fact that what is discussed should be of extreme importance in DA3, although MANY people hate it, especially the ending. It also introduces two new characters which are awesome, and very well characterized even if for only 1 hour or so. I got it because I loved the Morrigan character and my Warden romanced her, but I felt slightly cheated by how underwhelming the ending was.
Leliana's Song - Is a prequel where you play as Leliana, and it gives her backstory. It lasts somewhere in between 90 minutes and 3 hours, but it is amazingly well done, and the story is very well presented.
Return to Ostagar - is cool in the matter that you get to wander through Ostagar after the battle. Not renovating in terms of story, but you get very good loot, which includes all of King Cailian's equipment and Duncan's blades.
Warden's Keep - Gives a nice story on what happened to the Grey Wardens of the old days in Ferelden. It can unlock new abilities for each class (based on your choices). You can also get the most kick ass sword ever, forged from meteor ore, and full Warden Commander Armor.
Stone Prisoner - Definitely worth it. You get a golem named Shale as a companion. Think about Javik, now think about a much funnier character with some of the humor that Javik has. BEWARE OF THE PIGEONS!
Witch Hunt should be played after the end of the game, same goes for Awakening.
Leliana's Song should be played before, it gives the context of all the conflict of Leliana with Marjolaine.
Never played Golems of Amgarrak
But I suppose it should be played during.
Stone Prisoner, Warden's Keep, and Return to Ostagar, should be played during. Take your time with them, but definitely do Stone Prisoner as soon as possible, especially before doing the whole Orzammar storyline.
I forgot to mention a last piece of DLC called Darkspawn Chronicles. I dont recommend it. For all I've read you basically play as a Darkspawn in the final battle for Denerim SPOILER ALERT (as if you won the battle). you get to kill people like Allistair and everyone else /SPOILER ALERT, but it is boring overall.

As a human female mage you could probably skip Witch Hunt. Its impact is mostly on those who romanced Morrigan and those who played the Dalish origin. It does return you back to the Tower and there is some lovely snarky background dialogue about you there.
Awakenings is great. One of the potential companions (and he's great in Awakening) is from the Circle and will mention remembering you.
Golems is a hard dungeon crawl in the Deep Roads. If you liked the Deep Roads and you like challenges, you will like Golems.
Leliana's Song is a prequel and a stand alone. If you have played the City Elf origin, you will learn something. It is a lot of fun.

Thanks! The Morrigan one sounded interesting cause I liked her character but I'll pass on it for now. I hated the dwarf missions mainly because I prefer open air environments to dungeons and tunnels. It was the worst set of quests for me in origins. Getting lost in tunnels was not fun for me. lol! I think I'll go ahead with awakening. Sad Alistair won't be in it much but if its 6 months after the story then I can consider it a post ending download. Thanks for all the info!

My only 3 who finished Origins and went on to post game were my Queen and King Couslands and my mistress/chancellor Surana. So Alistair was king in the case of the ladies or non romanced in the case of the gentleman, and I got to see what he was up to on the females, not as attached on the guy, so kind of a non-concern.
My king Cousland romanced Leliana and got the letter from her, so I knew what was up with Leliana, and I understand you get a letter from Zevran as well if you romanced him. Both are mentioned in the epilogue slides as well.
If I were playing a GW Alistair import, I'd just headcanon he's off in the short time the crisis seems to take place either placing that memorial to Duncan in Highever like he mentions in Origins, or he's in Weisshaupt explaining why both he AND the warden are still alive.
