I'll admit, I loved the sexualisation of Miranda in 2, I'm stupid that way, but her face was creepy at points. Something about her character is stupidly endearing, and I don't know why.

Ashley, I didn't like in the first place. Her eyes were creepy, but I could say that about all the female characters in the first two games. Yes, I was attracted to the sexualised look, but you know, now it just jives me the wrong way.

Allers bugged me, but mostly because her face is terrifying. The dress looked weird, and I was surprised to find out that Shepard has a black version of that and a bugger off sized necklace to go with it, rather than the leather jacket and jeans.

Samara, Her jaw and lack of ass actually distracted me more than the plunging neck line. The fact that her boobs appear to be made out of rock bothered me, but really she is the only Asari I'm actually sexually attracted to (the lantern jaw of Justice really does it, where is the romance option damn it?!).

Jack, her attitude turned me off, and her dance outfit was hilarious for an Alliance teacher.

Liara I just dislike, and I am concerned about the boob job she received between games and her giant eyes.

FemShep, I'm glad for the change. Her waist almost puts Tali to shame (who knew a belt could make armour look so awesome?) and she looks like she has support in the chest now. Her face terrifies me though. She has this "I'll put you in my freezer!" look about her. Love the red hair.

It did not need to, given how skin-tight it was.

Well obviously Shep got herself a better bra. I have no complaints. :P

I don't have an issue with sexy characters either. Where appropriate. Now when their appearances doesn't make sense running around in skin tight leathers and a tiny mask on a toxic world, THEN I have a problem.

Okay sure Mass Effect isn't about realistic science, it's fantasy science, okay, but at least try to be consistent. In ME1 outfits made more sense, then that was thrown out in Me2 for looks, however in Me3 that was all corrected other then poor Ash who got a makeover not really matching her personality. But really I was pretty happy with ME3's characterization overall.

Now what they did to the above adorable hairstyle in ME3, well THAT is a crime.

I have no qualms about EDI, she's a robot after all, infiltration unit. And prolly designed by mostly male scientists in a lab somewhere.

Miranda, perfectly okay, given her 'upgrades', she's supposed to look as sexy as possible.

Ashley on the other hand... not exactly the look you'd expect of a hardened, veteran front-line soldier.

Look-wise, I think my biggest gripe with Mass Effect is that everyone's appearantly either super thin(female) or an athlete(male). Then again, Mass Effect has a terrible variable in body types in general...

EDI - agreed.

Miranda... well, that's right. But that's also why I can never take her seriously as a woman. It's so over-the-top, it's laughable really.

Well, except Ash is far from being a front line soldier after ME1. She get's promoted to Operations Chief and is mostly on solo missions throughout the galaxy ( "If they sent Operations Chief Williams, it has to be important"/ "...the representative of the Alliance...")
So I have no problem with the casual hairstyle and the civilian attire. It's the makeup and the breasts thing that annoys me. She was so compelling in ME1 because she was NOT what they -IMO not entirely successful- attempted to make of her in ME 3.

Also, far more important: I cannot stop reading this thread's title in Borat's voice.

It's not that i don't like sexy characters i don't mind them as a woman though i want the female to be looked on as strong and smart if they are sexy good

but when you have sexy to the point where you can't take a character seriously it becomes annoying

EDI fine i can deal it's annoying and i prefer her as a ship but w/e

Miranda well she was meant to be that way so i don't care plus my male shepard loved her body >:D

Ashley was fine in the first game i hate when something like this happens they don't change the characters they sex them up which was not needed.

Like Ellie in DS3 Jesus has anyone seen how she looks now?! i loved her in the 2nd one when issac met her i was like "yes a badass chick that doesn't need looks to show she's awesome" in the 3rd game dmn is she hawt but she seriously didn't need that!

Same thing happened to Ashley i might dislike her character a bit but she went from serious soldier to next top model soldier >.>

For Ash is because she was established as a no nonsense marine....who then during the promos of ME3 was presented in a rather out of character sexyfied way...

Miranda was, as well as other ME characters, entirely ridiculous in combat with her 6 inch combat heels and NO armor whatsoever (until the appearance pack which made yet bearable to me)

So by you logic a nonsense female marine would never want to look attractive?

I feel sorry for female marines.

Look at her hair. How is all that meant to fit inside a space suit helmet? Also it's grown like a foot and a half in what? Six months?

Never played any DS game, but yeah, in DS3 they made her look... like a mix of Alyx Vance and ME3 default Femshep?!  Not sure I'd call it overly sexualized, but the difference to her badass original appearance feels weird.

I don't have a problem with EDI. Ashley was simply a disappointment for me but I'm not complaining. What bothered me more was Allers - clearly included to suck up to IGN and the fanboys that drool over Jessica Chobot.

I understand the need to update a character's appearence, if anyone felt that Ashley's appearence was outdated. I shouldn't be bothered by this seeing as I never really have her in my playthrough, but this does seem to be a bit of an annoyance.

This isn't Jersey Shore. Or, at least I thought it wasn't.

I agree that she is "prettier" in ME1, but I personally like the longer hair. Should've combined the two, IMO.

My problem with EDI is that I think she was just made to be a sexual object rather than adding a squadmate.
This is just my opinion, of course.
I have no problem with Ash's new look or Liara's new character model. I prefer attractive females. As a straight guy, I think that's natural. I don't thumb my nose at characters if they're not good-looking, but I prefer to look at things I find attractive. Anyone who claims otherwise is pretty much lying to themselves and others.

Yea, of course, but you can still display attractive characters without exploiting them - these are two different things. The line between those two might sometimes be blurry, but still.

To put it really bluntly: to me - and many others - a badass woman  in full platemail is just much more attractive than some chick in the proverbial chainmail bikini.

Be honest, how many main characters in ME are wearing loudricrously skimpy outfits aside from Jack and EDI?

But, I think most of you have me wrong: What I'm saying is that people want to look at beauty. If beauty to you is a strong, female soldier in armor, then that is your preference and you are allowed to it.

I am NOT saying that women HAVE to be scantily clad in order to be attractive. I'm just saying that EVERYONE wants to look at what they find attractive, whatever tha is in any particular instance.

Maybe all that time in her cell put some weight on her? :P

Sorry.

ZLurps wrote...

What people find attractive is highly subjective. If you don't have a problem with Ash and Liara's boobjobs, good for you, but don't ****ing come telling other guys that if they didn't liked changes made to models they are lying.
There are different tastes and I and my brother for example, found things like Samara's cleavage and Miranda's booty shot in ME2 embarassingly naive and same goes for EDI's body and certain other things in ME3.

WHOA! Relax there tiger...

See two posts above.

Aside from the 2-3 gratuitious booty shots in ME2, I don't Miranda's design was THAT overtly sexualised. CERTAINLY not as bad as EDI's, which, if you read my whole post, you would see I actually agreed with you on.

TheRealJayDee wrote...

You see, I'm a straight guy as well, and I too prefer to look at, urm, "things" (persons maybe?) I find attractive - I've never been denying that. I also consider ME1 Ash to be one of the most attractive female characters I've seen in videogames, and thought that every single visual change about her in ME3 did nothing but reduce her appeal. Riddle me that...

Riddle ME this: was I REALLY THAT unclear in my original post?

Again, all I said was that people want to look at things they find attractive. If you think ME3 Ash was a major downgrade in every dept., I'm sorry (I agree mostly, but I like her hair and SOMEWHAt fuller body a little bit better).

Her face looked a little more botoxy, but I liked the fuller lips. Again, just me.

And, if you're inplying that I am calling women "things," I'm really not. I also enjoy looking at beautiful scenery (Aiite in Project Overlord) and art. I was generalizing the phrase to, I thought, further universalize the principle of aesthetic beauty being something we all look for and appreciate.

I'm all for less characters "sexy just for sexy," but this isn't really fair. ME1's femshep is in armor. She should be in her military casual clothes, and why it was done otherwise i'm not sure.

Furthermore, ME1 and ME3 are sideviews, while ME2 is definitely not a side view--it's a little in front of Femshep, downplaying breast size. So it looks like it suddenly jumped in ME3 when it may not have done any such thing.

She's more than eye candy.

This type of argument makes me laugh.  Sure, Bioware overdid it with the ass shots, but otherwise there is more to her than just "eye candy" and sex appeal is apart of her nature, as a character and her background.

Now, where sex appeal didn't do justice for me, is the buffing of Kaidan and Ashley's new look for the prime idea of just adding sex appeal for the sake of it, where Ashley was a great looking character before this whole new mindset came into play - that bugs me.

People like sexy characters.

Consider that Liara, Tali, and Miranda are all popular LIs. A large part of the reason for that is because they've got hot bodies and attractive faces. This was true for Tali as well even though her face isn't revealed in the third game, because any player that had their Shepard romance her was imagining something attractive underneath that helm.

I'm sure someone is now reading what I just typed and is about to post, "That's not true! I liked Tali or Liara or Miranda for her personality!" Before you hammer out that reply, would that character have been your Shepard's LI if she looked like Rosie O'Donnel? No? That's what I thought.

Moving on...

I think what people objected to was over-the-top sexualization of female characters. They objected to the ridiculous camera angles that purposely zoomed in on Miranda's backside during conversations, to the growth of Liara and Ashley's breasts, to Samara wearing armor that is unzipped down to her navel, to EDI's sexbot character model complete with cameltoe.

Exactly.  It's not that hard to grasp.

The whole mindset of improving sex appeal on past characters for the sake of it, bugs the crap out of me.  I'm surprised if they didn't add hair to Jack in ME3, so she would appeal to more people.
