Because deliberately sexing up characters for no logical reason other than ****** appeal is incredibly patronising towards the players.

If they are written well, they could have a sexed up Normandy with boob torpedoes and all. If you think that's 'sexed up' you should see Annah in Planescape: Torment xD

But I guess that Annah and her fellow skantly clad NPCs are dressed like so because of the setting's culture.

I like sexy characters, but to me characters seem less attractive if their sex-appeal is too much right in your face.

As much as I like Miranda for example, her outfit and the camera angles on it are kinda ridiculous. Similar with Samara or Jack.
I also only tolerate these "uniforms" that are seemingly cut for the assets of a woman. This goes with Tali, Liara and Ashley as well. Ever seen real female soldiers? No one is cutting the kevlar and trousers so that the boobs and butt are properly coming out. This has bugged me since ME1.

The Kestral chestpiece does a good job at "hiding" that so to speak.

and in all fairness Liara is not a soldier and even if she was she is an Asari...Asari make armor for their own people and they have all....uhm...assets

This isn't Jersey Shore. Or, at least I thought it wasn't.

Off-topic:

How in the world BW's designer came to think inserting face of Michael Jacson to female bodies make them sexy?

tbh I was
wondering the same thing. The first picture you put up there isn't
saying much if you don't know the character. For every Jason Statham
there is an Orlando Bloom

And no one stopped to consider the limitations of the PS2 in the blocky polygons in an attempt to make a character that isn't as overly supermodel as Eva was? Really?

You put a picture on the internet. It's a picture of somebody I never saw. I don't know if you play on a gameboy, PS2 or supercomputer. I told you my opinion. I'm not a fan of bimbos but the picture you put as an example first doesn't do her justice. Take a picture of Bloom (shaved) from the right angle and he will look no less feminine than the picture you posted. I didn't "stop to consider the limitation of PS2", I judged a character I never saw by a single low-quality picture.

First off, people like to complain. They complain about anything and everything. Some people don't like that their favorite character has been re-done. Some folks are offended by sexy robot bodies (tough news for Soryama) and some people think that by diffusing the world with images of sexual beauty you do a disservice to those who did not win the genetic lottery.

In fact, the only sci-fi show that ever showed the ugly people of the galaxy was Farscape. Everywhere else they are typically supermodels unless they have been cast to be some weird alien race.

And finally, some people complain to hide their own titillation. Rather than to admit that they have been aroused by something like EDI's "******," they belittle it and say that it is quite unnecessary and goes too far. Never mind that the game is rated "M" for mature. While one may reach an age considered mature, actual maturity varies with time.

Also, I'd like to add that I find a character off-putting if her appearance is like she's carrying a big sign screaming "I AM SEXY! STARE AT MY T&A". All too often, that makes her appear as if she's generally available, and I do not find that attractive.

This is what instatly made me cold towards Traynor. Her lesbian angle is the only thing that kept me from despising the character, if only because it makes her unavailable for her male commanding officer.

Really? I don't think any undue attention was drawn to her secondary sexual attributes. Instead, she has a very beautiful face and an extremely attractive voice. In fact, that's the kind of sexy I find completely desirable.

He said "some people". I think that's completely true. There are such people, and most of the time it's those who proclaim loudly a restrictive morality regarding sex.

Fair enough. I just don't find "camel toes" attractive on humans, nevermind space robots

You just explained some of reason why most sci-fi series are considered juvenile crap.

And there is quite a big difference between Mature as sexual imaginary and Mature as plausible characters, settings and plot. EDI's ****** doesn't fall in either though. It's just sad.

Sure it's okay for a civilian to wear a jacket that pushes the newly inflated boobs to a maximum. But that the steel (or whatever material) of every female armor is shaping out the boobs has always bugged me.

And yes, I am very annoying when it comes to realism in sci-fi. Part of why disliked ME3 so much.

Yes, she was genuinely pretty, unlike, for example, ME 3 Ashley and Allers. Sadly, she still struck me as a seemingly available pretty secretary.

But, to each his or her own impression. After years of being bombarded with sex appeal to sell me things I am probably a bit biased.

well, fist off she only had ONE armor in ME3, and no one has to say it is alliance issued. all her other suits looks like armored clothing, you know, plated-up as opposed to hardsuits. I am ok with that for Liara. Ash tho? Not so much...does she not have a less armored-suit appearance now as of the latest app pack? I Simething resembling Anderson's outfit post intro?

Not really surprising, considering that most of the playerbase is likely male and thus tend to be less interested/versed in male beauty.

There are significant cultural differences between how sexualized men and women can get - women occupy a broader spectrum. Also, male sex appeal is often connected with physical fitness, something that does not collide with serving as soldiers.

You won't deny she's way better than Kelly, right? And a lot more interesting as a character.

Bioware is trying to tempt me, but they can't break me apart from my blue waifu.

Seriously though, I didn't think it was bad. People are just exaggerating how much an issue this actually is.

EDIT:

WAIT, Diana Allers was bad. Her entire character's purpose is sex appeal.

Everyone in ME1 has "boobs armor", including Liara.
In ME3 this is her Alliance outfit and this is her ridiculous other armor.

No need to defend Liara. It hits every single female I can think of.

Just stating my oppinion on the matter at hand. It's not like I boycotted the game because of it. I don't think that is exaggerating.

Er, maybe because the worst offenders are all female character portrayals?!

The only over-sexed male look was Jacob's, and even his wasn't as bad as Miranda (he has equally stupid clothes but at least he's got sensible shoes). I think his irritating personality steals the limelight away from his over-sexualised look too.

The only other guy you could maybe point to is Thane but that "light" look kinda goes with his stealth assassin schtick, rather like Kasumi.
