Hey all,
Question; I just started my second playthough in Mass Effect. I didn't want to pick my old character as I was looking to do the whole experience with another class and also with a female character.
My question would be; how would this play on harcore? Is it possible or do I need to use my old character so I am already higher up in level? My guess is that the game 'scales' with the level you are in on so it wouldn't matter but I am asking anyway to make sure.
Thanks!
Second playthrough in Hardcore; do I need to take my previous character?

Playing on Hardcore is certainly do-able with a new (non-import) character. I know people have completed Insanity with new characters.
As far as I know, the enemies in Mass Effect 1 do not scale with your level. If they do, it is not noticeable as your Shepard noticeably becomes incredibly powerful as you level up and get better gear and mods.
Regardless of difficulty, you are always at your weakest at level 1, and then you really start to become good at around level 35 or so as you have enough powers and good enough gear to start to dominate the game.
Since enemies will more damage on Hardcore than you may be used to (and have more health and spam Immunity a lot more), you may want to take cover more than you usually would, and on uncharted worlds in the "warehouses", take cover by the door and shoot the enemies from there.
Hope that helps.

Beat insanity with level 1 characters in ME 2.
It's not that bad, as long as you get rid of the protections straight away.
Miranda is one of the most useful squadmates.
Garrus and Zaeed can also handle all protections.
Bring any of those choices and you'll have an easier time.
Kasumi is also a pretty neat character.

I went through Leviathan DLC and Omega DLC with a new character.
Leviathan was a particularly rough experience, with my non-imported character.
There is one section where you have to escort a drone. Pretty much any enemy could kill my Shepard with a couple of hits.
I'm guessing that since this is in the ME1 and 2 section that the OP is talking about them as opposed to ME3.

A bit tedius removing protections if you don't have warp and overload.
Is very challenging and it's always fun taking down mercenaries.

Good to hear that is should be possible. I am now underway but there are quite some very difficult moments that are hard to pass. I am just hoping that I will not get stuck.
For example; when I left the Citadel for the first time I tried the side quest UNC: Hostage. After a few attemps I had to abort because my ass was getting kicked a few times. My team mates go down very easily and there is basically no where to run in this mission. I have now just completed my first quest outside the Citadel (find Liara).
After that I tried "UNC: Missing Survey Team". Again; my team mates were getting ripped apart but I could finish this mission by just simply shooting, running away and shooting again. I will next try the hostage mission again and hopefully I have some more luck now I have leveled up a bit.
