Disclaimer: I made this post to the Dragon Age Origin forum also, but I figured it would've good to post in both places.

After my PS3 crashed I had to do a format which resulted in the loss of all my DAO save files, including DLC.  (yeah yeah I "should've made a back up).  Therefore my character doesn't 'exist' if there is the chance to import into the new Dragon Age game.  The only silver lining to my situation is my character data still exists on this Bioware Social site, but its very out of date.  I think the most updated part of my character was shortly before I beat the game, and does not include any of my decisions in the DLC and Awakening.  So even if in the long run that could be used as an import, it is missing a bunch of vital character choices and relationships.

So, if this isn't already in the works for the Drage Age 3 team, I highly suggest an alternative to only allowing the import of save files.  An example being a simple yes/no checklist of all the major choices made in the previous 2 games, including romance choices, etc.
This is all under the assumption that Drage Age 3 will be influenced at all by one's previous game characters decisions of course.  One of the downsides of such a plan is that for people who haven't played the first 2 games, there will be many spoilers in the choice boxes (but then again they shouldn't need to access that feature). Even in the event that someone starting the game isn't in my shoes of losing their character save files, it would be neat to customize your own scenarios of the history that happened before you start your DA3 game to see how it may affect your game.

Two mistakes you could have been "moderted" about/for.   One (this messaqge) broke the Terms of Service membership agreement. A second copy of the same comment in another forum is actuallu Spam. It's called "cross-posting", and no forum site appreciates it. The second mistake was that both of the threads were technically off topic, since there is already a DA-3 forum in existence

OK, I checked back, you followed through on the original thread, it seems (it's gone from the DA: O General Subjects forum). .
