Geez, people are really overreacting here. It's fine if there are asexual people, I didn't even attack them. I was speaking mainly about the Sebastian's romance. He's not asexual at all and far from it, and the reason he wants a chaste marriage has nothing to do with being asexual.

I care about the storytelling part of the storyline and what the chaste relationship meant for my character. I don't care about the sex scene, but the narrative aspect of the relationship. It just seems like a very unfulfilled life specifically for my character. That is why I'm very icky toward a tragic romance as well. I usually prefer happy endings for my characters, and certain aspects of the romance such as a sexless marriage would interfere with my headcanon.

Yup yup agree with everything you say here :)

My romances require intimacy... I don't need to actually see the sex, but I want to know they have nice fulfilling sex lives :P

That's nice, but you can say that something isn't for you/your characters without saying that it's pointless/a waste of time/a 'rip-off'/etc. in general.

Like I said, it's a waste of time for my character, and the relationship isn't a true asexual relationship anyway. I didn't attack asexual people or the relationship they're in. I'm saying the relationship my character would have had with Sebastian, specifically him, would be a ripped off because he slept with tons of people before and he just stopped with Hawke simply because of the chantry. I honestly don't feel like arguing on this point. Let's just move on. :?

Well, to be fair, I said none of those things; I said his romance was not really a romance.

Yeah that is a good point; Sebastian isn't asexual; he's heterosexual and he consciously rejects physical intimacy. And also he wouldn't kiss my BroHawke >.> Bastard!

Mr Gaider stated that everyone is subjectively bisexual, but why is Sebastian is 100% straight? That is such a letdown. :P

I'm not so sure about that; I swear when he was preaching to Fenris he was trying to pick the guy up!  My Hawke was all, Back off, choir boy!!!

Hawke-Fenris-Sebastian sexy party. lol, j/k ^_^

I'm suspecting that either David Gaider had a bigger plan for him that required him to be straight (Maybe he got married) or it was simply to satisfy the bisexuality complain. While I'm not too crazy about Sebastian, it would have been nice to see a s/s royal romance in Dragon Age.

Oh I hadn't thought of that; that DG may have had bigger plans for him.

I know; poor you, you want your royal s/s romance and that's twice you've been shafted!! LOL

I've always sort of thought BioWare felt they had to make Sebastian straight, otherwise that whole... "Take no bride but Andraste" thing would have left him open to have a more intimate romance with a man than a woman. After all, he never says anything about taking no husband... :P

It seems like another shortcut. As in, "Oh, we didn't have the resources to make an intimate romance with Sebastian, so we just have to make him straight so male Hawkes can't take advantage of this loophole to have an intimate relationship with him."

Or... You know... They could have just wanted him to be straight, and I'm reading too much into it. It's funny to think about, though!

Third time the charm. Here's hoping.
Who knows? Cullen may reveal to be a bastard son of some king, lol, if only.  It's probably for the best anyway. I just can't imagine myself killing Anders simply because Sebastian told me to. While I disagree with his actions, he was not entirely wrong, IMO.

Man I TRIED to make a cold-blooded Hawke to kill Anders. Couldn't do it!

I'm a sucker for cute boys :crying: Can't kill the bastards! :P

Bluh, I think EVERYONE got shafted regarding a royal romance in DA2 (though the lack of SS royalmances in both games is definitely adding insult to injury)--Seb's sort-of-kind-of-vague-hint-at-a political alliance was not satisfying at all. As in, even if I rivalmanced him with Hawke, I don't feel like that decision is going to have any consequences--BW gave themselves an out by having him be so vague about it, and I feel like they'll take it.

Anyway, I hope they'll have either a royal or a political figure that anyone can romance in DA:I--I missed having a partner to rule with in DA2.

Never really thought of that. It's sort of brilliant. :P

Both Alistair and Sebastian are kind of the prince charming type. If there is another prince in DAI, can we have a jerky prince?

And is that somehow supposed to be less insulting and dismissive of romance that doesn't include sex?    And no, Sebastian isn't asexual, but that doesn't mean it's not a romance that asexual people can appreciate, because it's a romance that doesn't involve sex.  So what if it's a concious choice for him?  It's perfectly possible for someone to RP an asexual Hawke who appreciates that Sebastian isn't going to expect sex from them, etc.

Seriously, you guys at this point are basically going "Who the **** cares if I hurt someone, I SAY WHAT I WANT."

Do you think Sebastian will have a big role in the next game or just a cameo? Sebastian speaks with a British accent, so I don't think Starkhaven is closed to Orleis.

It would be nice to be part of the rebellion and choosing the next ruler for Orleis. The LI could be the leader of the rebellion, just an idea though.

I think I only spared Anders once...and it ironically was when I was in a romance with him.

It's one of those things I guess, I can never get behind what he did fully, even as a mage.

If you think about it. The revered mother knows about the mage abuse and was refused to do anything about it. I don't think her hands are entirely clean. What Anders did was horrible, but I like that he's willing to die for his crime.

Sorry if I'm putting words in anyone's mouth here, but I think the reason why momotogirl and battlebloodmage are saying Sebastian's romance isn't a "real" romance (i.e. "less" of a romance than the other companions) is that it had far less general content than the other relationships, and not because it didn't have sexual content. While I love Sebastian's character, I definitely find his romance less satisfying because I have fewer opportunities to interact with him, and because (as someone mentioned before) in the rivalry romance you don't really even know if the two of you will be together.

I think it's really great that people who are asexual can enjoy the Sebastian romance where they might not have enjoyed the content of the other, sexual romances! I'm sorry that you feel that people are dismissing your concerns. I think (hope) everyone here acknowledges the validity of an asexual Hawke enjoying a chaste marriage with Sebastian.

Believe me I did. I wrote an article on it for my series. It is basically a perception issue in terms of right and wrong.

It's a good read, I agree that Anders' anger wasn't come out of nowhere. The injustice he endured for years was egged on by the chantry's unwillingness to get involved. The chantry was actually guilty themselves for condoning Meredith's antics. I also agree that the opinion on the matter is very subjective. What Anders did can be seen as martyrism or terrorism. I see it as foolish. While his intention is good, he acts too rashly and didn't think about the consequence.

Thank you, that article was one of my better ones in the series IMO. Its also why characters such as Anders are much more complicated than the stereotypes people give them. BioWare is very good at this...so much so I think i wrote about their characters the most so far.

As far as Sebastian, I AM asexual, and some part of me is actually surprised anyone on a romance thread or anywhere honestly have heard of us, Go AVEN for Visibility! So the fact people even care if we feel about that statement makes me happy. Most often response I get is it doesnt exist.

I am not offended, in fact my issue with the Sebastian romance was the fact that no girl would be in a chaste marriage with the most bawdy pick up lines in the game XD Why is Sebastian's so tawdry? It makes no sense at all and really makes me confused. Why have a chaste romance for the asexuals...and then make the PC so er...excitable?

I would say that I acknowledge and aware of the existence of asexual people, and when I talk about the sexless marriage with Sebastian, I simply wasn't taking asexual people into account, and I was simply referred to the lack of deep his relationship in comparison with the other LIs we have. It just wasn't fulfilled for me. If people feel offended by it, it wasn't my intention. This is going to be my last post on the subject; I'll probably not gonna talk about it since it's derailed from the purpose of this thread.
