M/M romance thread! Someone had to say something....

Varric would be cool but he would fit some stereotypes as well, you can't avoid them. Sten should not romance anyone, his views on it would be too much at odds, Sten should mate a woman that The Qun assign him to, as anything else is against his beliefs and personality. Logain is interesting, but I think he is set in stone and completely unlikely to want to be lovey doves with anything at this stage of life. And I agree on Nathaniel, but to me he is far more dainty than either Fenris or Zevran, and can be pretty emotional as well, which is a good thing

Feelings are not a "girl" thing, they are an "everyone" thing.

I'm sure that BW can create a manly LI without making him emotionally constipated.

I would love someone at least fifty percent more sane to romance. Just sayin'. I tend to like emotionally stunted dudes in my fandom shipping, but I'm not sure I'd want it in a game. It'd probably not be as much fun.

I don't mind a little pain and difficulty, but just not fanatics. Be anti Mage but not accuse every Mage you see and treat them as guilty until proved innocent...Bethany. Be anti Templar but don't blow up someplace with innocents and act like all Templars are evil to their core. And strangely Merrill as well who sacrifices her life, her clan, and later the keeper to make deals with a demon just to get an ounce of lore. I understand them, but fanaticism is difficult to enjoy. As characters they would be fine...if they were not all like that, thankfully there is Aveline, Sebastian, Varric, and Isabela to some extent.

Actually, a common stereotype of homosexual relationships is that they are less emotional because both partners are men. I would prefer that Dragon Age did not present men as gross, macho dudebros.

Really? I always thought the stereotype was the other way around. Guess I learnt something new there, thanks.

Actually in my experience it is the other way around. And the reality actually more closely resembles Plaintiff's stereotype. xp

Ive never really seen Dragon Age pushing that forward too much. Zevran and Fenris resisted being in relationships because of past expereinces, more than trying to be macho.
Actually now that I think about it, Zevran has perhaps the most emotional relationship in the game, considering the arc he goes through.

Seriously, though, I can see where you're coming from. Personally, I enjoy romances (at least in games) where your partner is. . . less than stable? I think it can add a sort of . . . tragic beauty to a playthrough.
Still, I also like nice "uncomplicated" romances. Garrus (for me) was definitely that, and I adored his romance.

I'm with Plaintiff on this one; that's definitely the stereotype I've personally seen described, both by hollywood and in my personal experience (certain screaming matches between myself and my mother spring to mind).ReallyRue wrote...

Both stereotypes exist and are prevalent. There are so many stereotypes floating around about homosexuals that it's very hard to write about homosexuals without falling into at least a couple.ReallyRue wrote...

Well I'm not accusing Bioware of falling into those stereotypes. Dragon Age, I think, did a remarkable job with the portrayal of homosexual relationships. So did ME3, when it finally got around to it, but I really wish it hadn't taken them so long.

i want both but the chances of us getting two more typically 'manly' love interests sesm pretty slim. iron bull might actually have a shot but i feel like we probably won't get that lovely grey warden fellow because he's older and considering the fans' reaction to karl being older than anders was largely "eww but he's old!!!" i feel like it wouldnt exactly sell very well. shame because i am totally into older guys, gimme a silver fox please.

Never got that 'ew Karl is old' hate. He had grey hair (and lots of people get grey hair early, it's not THAT uncommon), but his face was actually younger looking than Anders himself. Weird.
I think it'd be great if Bioware broke the norm and made manly guys as m/m or bi LIs.

im sort of worried i wont like either of the male li's. in both games so far i've only liked one. i adored zevran but alistair was an annoying manchild to me so if alistair had been the designated m/m love interest i would have been significantly less pleased with origins' romance. and i like anders plenty but i can never quite get attached to fenris. if cullen is one of the m/m love interests i'm afraid theres only one other to choose from and if i dont like that one i guess im just gonna have to be sad
Is it confirmed that there will only be two male LIs though?

All the LIs are going to be bi, so you may get your wish.

i never got it because he only shows up for like, thirty seconds in the whole game. there's even mods to make him younger and more conventionally attractive. for those thirty seconds because i guess the thought that anders was involved with a man not to one's own personal tastes puts people off of him?? it really is weird

no but i don't really seem them doing a lot more than that. i mean there's a chance we might get say, 6 li's, two straight and two bi and two gay or something to that effect, which would be nice because then there's an equal number of options and nobody's stuck with the designated love interest if they don't like them. but given that it takes a lot of time to put romances together and bioware doesnt seem keen on making them that huge of a part of the game, it seems like making it two male and two female for all genders would be the most cost-effective and best time management without excluding anyone.
but hey, a lot can happen in a year.

They do have a lot of time left so hopefully we'll get as much variety as possible

Well, like they said, third time the charm. We know that he's in the game. We just don't know if he's a LI. I would love for him to be one, but I would be disappointed if he's a NPC only. He's getting older, so this seems like this is his last chance. Part of me don't want Varric as a LI is because he belongs to Bianca, another part telling that he may take a potential spot from Cullen.katerinafm wrote...
