This is all I hope for though.

Would they really deny us Cullen for a third time? Hm...

Well, like they said, third time the charm. We know that he's in the game. We just don't know if he's a LI. I would love for him to be one, but I would be disappointed if he's a NPC only. He's getting older, so this seems like this is his last chance. Part of me don't want Varric as a LI is because he belongs to Bianca, another part telling that he may take a potential spot from Cullen.

Hahah, I actually prefer Varric to just 'stay' with Bianca as well (and I don't want to force him to move on). He was my Hawke's bro, and will most likely be the inquisitor's bro as well XD. Varric has also mentioned that he's not into humans, so if he was an LI, would he be exclusive to dwarfs or...?

It'd be cool if Cullen was a party member. I'd really prefer if all LIs were party members really, not NPCs. Steve and Sam were great, but it's just more fun to have your LI tag along on missions with you.

How old is Cullen? I don't think he's that old?

I agree, Cullen is the LI I want provided that they don't make him all soft and damaged. What I love about the MShep and Kaidan romance is how well rounded Kaidan is. I don't want some emotional bag of mess and problems to fix. Please don't make Cullen a crybaby! lol!

Alistair was a bit of a crybaby and his romance was so smushy. I hope I didn't offend any Alistair fan, but I did romance him and did like it but I don't think he challenges the PC enough. Kaidan's romance is so interesting is because he challenges the Shepard. Shepard is an alpha male type, so you would expect all to bow down to him like Garrus or Tali (I love Tali), but Kaidan questioned Shepard, and I feel like that's an interesting dynamic. They build trust in each other slowly and don't just quickly fall in love. I feel like I don't mind some drama from Cullen, but I just hope he doesn't suffer too much from PTSD. It seems too serious of a condition to be fun in a game, at least for me.

He was 20 something in DAO, so he should be in his late 30 and early 40 in the Inquisition. That seems like pushing it as a LI. We don't know the timeline for DA4, so he may even be an old man in DA4.

aside from the fact that i usually play a male pc, i just never liked alistair because he came off as a huge manchild to me. shoves off all responsibility on the pc, then gets mad at them for making all the hard decisions he wouldn't make, constantly whines about his daddy issues to a pc who had their family slaughtered, or were torn away from their clan after losing their best friend, or that awful scenario with vaughan...it didnt exactly endear me to him. he was well written, i mean, since its good that he got a reaction out of me. but it didnt make me want to romance him by any means. no offense to alistair fans of course, thats just how i interpreted him.

anywho i hope we get at least one li who isn't angsty or whiny. but maybe you still have to work towards the relationship. just not because they're suffering from ptsd or theyre an ex-slave or theyre possessed or something. maybe a more normal issue, like they're just shy, or they're older and haven't been with anyone in a while.

I agree, I loved that Kaidan questioned Shepard and didn't just fall in line when told to. I really want more of that. I want a LI to call my PC out and mean it. They did it in DA2 but overall I didn't feel it the way I did with Kaidan in ME2 and ME3. Nothing compares to the reunion between them in ME2. Even though I played a MShep, I could see the subtle hints at something more. The Cerberus thing really bothered him and it showed. I would love a far more challenging partner in DA3.

About Alistair, I agree, he was a crybaby and manchild who refused to take responsiblity for anything. I liked romancing him only because he was the better romance in terms of story. I like romancing Zev as a man but I didn't enjoy hearing that he perferred women. That's why my gay Cousland decided to keep him on the side and marry Anora.

I doubt anyone will mind his age. Especially considering how good he looks in DA2 despite being older.

I've really enjoyed the M/M romances in DA games thus far and I have my reasons.

There is something that really bothers me with how M/M romances are portrayed in media. It doesn't happen all the time but I notice they usually end badly in movies, tv shows and games. I don't understand why this happens so much.

So when I finally played ME3 and got a chance to play a gay male Shepard, I was surprised at myself more than anything that I didn't much notice how tragic and damaged the gay characters are because I was so used to it.

Then I picked up the Dragon Age series and was pleasantly surprised for a start how homosexuality in Thedas is
portrayed as not being such a big deal. Zevran was the first M/M romance I played and he was a breath of fresh air. I liked being given the choice at the end to find a way to have us both live. (Well for a little while longer, I forgot about the corruption. The happy ending still counts to me!) :P

And with Dragon Age 2, sure, the characters, notibly Fenris and Anders, have tragicness orbitting them wherever they go but it's not to do with the fact they can be gay, now that's a nice change. A nice change indeed.

So I hope to see more of this brilliant representation and portrayal in DA:I.

Hmmm...I'm not sure that adds up right. I pictured him early to mid 20s in DAO...maybe 25? DAO took place in 9:30 Dragon. The confrontation with Meredith occurs in 9:37 Dragon. And Cassandra's interrogation of Varric occurs in 9:40 Dragon. I would assume that Inquisition doesn't start too long after that. That would put him right around 35 maybe, but definitely not in his 40s. In fact, the entire cast seems more mature than in past games....

Apparently, some men even in their early 40s continue to have relationships with other people, despite their staggeringly ancient lifespans causing them to turn into gruesome, aged husks of their former selves.

Honestly, I prefer an older cast. The companions are going to have to be an experienced bunch and anyway there's something about prodigiously young party members that makes me feel inadequate (and for anyone concerned by my last post, don't worry, people in their 40s are actually still pretty youthful).

To be fair, it wouldn't be the first time that Bioware used an older LI.

Thane was also in his later thirties, to mid-forties, I think.

Edit: To clarify, in case I make this sound like it's a bad thing, I actually prefer older characters.

Frankly, I just hope I can stand the male LI's in this game. Anders and Fenris were just awful, awful people.

Awww... I like Anders.

I find Zevran to be pretty interesting LI, but like someone said, I don't like him telling the male warden that he prefers girls. It just kinda ruins the moment at least for me. Third time the charm, like I said, so maybe Inquisitor male LI will blow all the fans away.

F/F is fine, Bioware knows how to handle such relations and provide them with good writing and scenes. May be it`s because of a more passionate female voice acting as well.
M/M is not so good. And unfortunately the way such relations were thrown at players in DA2 or ME3 doesn't make it more interesting or appealing. Seeing Anders flirting with male Hawke all of a sudden was confusing to say the least. Forced relations/sexual intreactions are bad no matter the context.

Well, different strakes for different folks.

I keep meaning to give the Zevran romance a try with my M!Cousland but doing another playthrough that isn't my canon warden is so hard. But I hear it's actually really good, even if he's not usually my type.

And the fact that he prefers ladies is dissapointing, but that just means a male warden is specialB)

Yeah, typical lesbian action is hot while gay is not. Yeah, this is not a place for you to complain about gay romance, make a separate thread for that or don't. This thread should be used to discuss about what people prefer to see in a M/M romance.

First, you`re in no position here to tell people what to do.
Second, you`re too ignorant to notice, that in my post I talked about preference for a more natural and fluid gay romance experience. So keep your "holy anger" for some place else, kid.

Yeah, I just don't want any drama here. I don't even why you are here, but why don't you post the same thing in the F/F thread? It says more about your personal feeling than the more natural and fluid gay romance experience.

I'd like keep Cullen as one the constant NPC figures in the game. This means making him non-romanceable. His character isn't interesting enough that I'd like him as companion, let alone LI, personally.

ok so thinly-veiled "f/f is okay but m/m made me uncomfortable" rhetoric then

you made a thread about how we need a romance toggle so nobody is forced to see same gender romance, this isn't exactly the thread for you so please leave before we get locked or something
