My main problem with Zevran wasn't that statement, but rather his cavalier attitude about murder. It was very difficult for me to oooh and aaah to his tales of murder, and whenever I did I felt like I was breaking character in favour of getting into his pants.

LOL Same. Kind of par for the course with DA LIs. I guess that's why they're still tweaking the reputation system. For me, that's why ME was so refreshing. No matter what decision I made, it didn't affect my ability to romance someone. I mean it seems so silly now; relationships aren't built on simply agreeing with one another about various sociopolitical situations.

Frankly, I just hope I can stand the male LI's in this game. Anders and Fenris were just awful, awful people.

Awww... I like Anders.

I find Zevran to be pretty interesting LI, but like someone said, I don't like him telling the male warden that he prefers girls. It just kinda ruins the moment at least for me. Third time the charm, like I said, so maybe Inquisitor male LI will blow all the fans away.

I felt exactly the same way! When he said he preferred women I was like wtf? Ok... <_< It kind of cheapened the relationship and it felt like, were I female, he would be able to love me more. I still enjoyed the romance and I romance him every time I play DA:O but still, it irks me..

i really don't see why that "cheapens" it? its kind of really disrespectful to bi people (and women to a point although thats just...unfortunate implications i suppose) to say that. so he has a preference, doesn't mean he loves your male warden any less. i'm more partial to guys but that hardly means i'd be less able to love a woman if i dated her. it just means i veer more towards one.

They're not talking about being bi. It's about him mentioning that he prefers women when IN a romance with a male. Like your boyfriend saying he likes redheads the most when you have black hair or something. It just makes you a bit insecure about your OWN hair color, not mad at HIM for liking red heads. I hope that makes more sense? :D

I'm not saying what's wrong or right here, but this reminds me a lot of the Karl situation with Anders.  Some people don't like that he doesn't mention his relationship with Karl to a female Hawke.  Is it better for the character to always tell the truth, or to say something different depending on who they talk to?  I appreciate that Zevran is honest about it, that leaves it to the Warden to decide if he can accept Zevran as he is.  (And Zevran really isn't being insensitive because he tells you this before your relationship gets serious.)  My Warden doesn't care that Zevran has a preference for women because he was still chosen over the rest.

Exactly.  This is only my perspective, which others can agree or disagree with.  I don't have a problem with Zevran being bi.  I actually like that he is intentionally bi (versus playersexual, which is fine but a very different thing altogether).  My only issue with him is his personality.  He prefers females AND openly flirts with all of the female party members right in front of you.  This is fine, since it's his personality to do so, but he was the only option.  So it just makes his preference for women more bittersweet for me, since I would prefer for him to prefer my character.  He's such a flirt that I always have the suspicion that he would leave the male warden if a more interesting woman were to come along.  I never get the "eternal love" thing from him.  Again, not an issue in general, but since he was the only m/m option, I was stuck with it when I wanted something different for my male warden.  I contrast it with Leliana, who when in a f/f relationship, seems truly committed to the female warden.  That's my point.  And, again, just my perspective.

I actually consider myself bi and pretty much in the same boat you're in, but let me try to explain. By "cheapen" I didn't mean his character or his sexuality was cheapened, I meant my experience with him. Why would you tell a man you're in a relationship with that you'd prefer to be with a woman? It just seemed oddly placed. He tells stories of how he's slept with many girls and that he even fell for one. He just never struck me as the kind of man who would voluntarily be with another man and is only with  my Warden because I chose the right dialogue. Maybe I'm just projecting my own trust issues onto him, though. :wizard:  It's also a game, so I shouldn't expect realism in a fantasy world. :P

He's still my favorite romance out of both DA games. And I'm grateful Bioware gave us the opportunity to pursue a gay romance. Can I ask how it's disrespectful to women? I'm having trouble with that. I meant no disrespect, believe me. I was just offering an opinion. Maybe "cheapens" was the wrong word.

I'm mixed about it to be honest. most bisexual people do tend to prefer one gender to the other (speaking from experience), so it is actually quite a realistic portrayal, and it doesn't mean he loves a male warden any less than a female one. I don't think it's right to just bluntly tell someone and flirt with the other gender constantly in front of them though. But then again Zevran isn't me and the flirting side did fit his character.

It all comes down to how charcters sexualities define them. On the one hand I liked the fact that the warden's gender didn't change Zevran's preferences and that they were part of his charcter, but on the other hand I can see why some people would be unhappy with having that as their only LI option.

yeah i can see why it bothers people i suppose, i just don't care for the mindset that he shouldn't have a preference or talk about it for fear of making the warden uncomfy. especially since i'm fairly sure you can have that conversation with him while you're still just sort of messing around, before it becomes an actual monogamous-ish relationship. so i guess i just see it as unfair to say he shouldn't say that at all.

well that's fair enough i guess, i just never interpreted it that way? i interpreted it as just, chatting about sex, and i think it wasn ever intended to come off like he wasn't actually attracted to men so much as just, his past is why he's so open about it. but the lines there came off to some people like something else entirely.

as for telling someone he's in a relationship with, its kind of hard to say because those dialogue options can also happen before you're really in a relationship with him i think? so it might just be a matter of the game's not-so-linear approach to talking to your companions so i tend not to take that bit so seriously. or alternately he's just laid back about talking about what he likes and doesn't really mean anything by it?

oh and the bit about disrespectful to women - that's more an implications thing than anything else and i highly doubt you meant it that way, it can just easily come off as "he likes icky girls getting in the way of my hawt gayz" which is a rhetoric i dont really come acorss too often on here at least so its a stretch. you're fine :)

I can see that! I like that Zev is so fluid with himself. I never really thought about it that hard before. :D
I would never want to be the person that would complain about icky girls getting in the way of mah gays.[smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/wizard.png[/smilie] Zev talked a lot about how "open-minded" he was and I guess I just wanted more evidence or confirmation other than him just calling me handsome. I don't know, I just wanted more gayness from him as a m/m LI :D but that's just me.

As far as Inquisition goes, I hope we get another elf. I always romance the elves!

I'm sure that we will get an elf, but I wouldn't be upset if we didn't get one. I only romanced Zev because he was the only guy and found Fenris a bit too J-Pop looking for my tastes. To be honest, I would much rather prefer a dwarf or qunari option instead of an elf. I'm assuming that a human is a given.

If Cullen is not a LI, then it could be between Cole and the Grey Warden as the human LI, or maybe someone completely new, who know? Honestly though, I hope if it's between those two then I hope it's the Grey Warden, Cole is adorable in a woobie kind of way, but I could see him having too much issues for my taste. For once, I want someone fun and doesn't have a lot of baggage like Isabela or Zevran. They may have some issues with their past, but their current mindset is not revolved entirely around their past like with Anders or Fenris. Dorian seems like a fun guy to know, but I would rather for the non-human companion to be some other races just for a change of pace. I wouldn't oppose to it to be honest though.

I agree! I want someone carefree and fun. I'm over the doom and gloom of DA2's male LI. Can you tell me about Dorian? Is he the elf mage? I know almost nothing about him.

I don't think the elf mage is a companion. I think Dorian is a human. He's a Tevinter Magister, but other than that, sounds like Alistair, or pre-Justice Anders.

Yes, he is. His description stated that Dorian Pavus is a magister. The title conjures fear of arcane masters who once enslaved nations. Dorian may wield power of the magisters, but he delights in not being what you’d expect of them. Brazen and clever, this outcast is on a crusade to rid his homeland of its corruption. His picture often shows him smile or smirking, so he should be a fun and carefree character. I do agree with some people here that he needs some hair though, mostly because I'm shallow like that.

Here's the description of Dorian from the leaked survey:

Dorian-  Dorian Pavus is a Tevinter magister. The title conjures fear of arcane master who once enslaved
nations. Dorian may wield the power of the magisters, but he delights in not being what you would expect. Brazen and clever, this outcast is on a crusade to rid his homeland of its corruption.”

I'd be okay with his being bald.  It's different than what we've had so far.  I don't need hair on my LI, although I do prefer it.  That's why I'd rather the Grey Warden than Dorian.

I have a feeling that Dorian is the elf mage.  We haven't seen any other artwork or descriptions that make sense for a third mage companion.  Plus, we know from Fenris that there are elf Magisters in Tevinter.  And, Dorian seems like he is bucking the trend in Tevinter, so it might be because he's an elf.  Of course that's just speculating.

Assuming that bald smirking elf character IS Dorian, and assuming Dorian is actually a companion (or even involved in the game at all anymore), it's entirely possible that his look could change from what we're seeing now before the game releases. Anyone remember those pre-DAII videos of Cassandra where her hair was silver-ish? In theory, there's plenty of time to give him hair, no hair, some hair, facial hair, red hair, blond hair, purple hair, ringlets, or a mohawk before the game ships.

I agree! I want someone carefree and fun. I'm over the doom and gloom of DA2's male LI. Can you tell me about Dorian? Is he the elf mage? I know almost nothing about him.

That's why I'd rather the Grey Warden than Dorian.

now that certainly is interesting...could go for that. i doubt varric would be an LI (although the prospect of a qunari inquisitor being able to pick him up is tempting) and cullen isnt my type and cole has too many issues, i wanna see some fun male lis again. dorian, that grey warden, iron bull...bring 'em on.

I doubt Varric is a LI. Even less a M/M LI. He just sounds/looks like such a ladies man to me. Which is a shame, I would like to romance him with my male inquisitor.

besides he said Bianca is his only love. (I suspect Bianca is a woman)
