I doubt Varric is a LI. Even less a M/M LI. He just sounds/looks like such a ladies man to me. Which is a shame, I would like to romance him with my male inquisitor.

besides he said Bianca is his only love. (I suspect Bianca is a woman)

Appearances can be deceiving.:wizard:

I'm sure that we will get an elf, but I wouldn't be upset if we didn't get one. I only romanced Zev because he was the only guy and found Fenris a bit too J-Pop looking for my tastes. To be honest, I would much rather prefer a dwarf or qunari option instead of an elf. I'm assuming that a human is a given.

+1

Especially Qunari tbh.

Here's the description of Dorian from the leaked survey:

Dorian-  Dorian Pavus is a Tevinter magister. The title conjures fear of arcane master who once enslaved
nations. Dorian may wield the power of the magisters, but he delights in not being what you would expect. Brazen and clever, this outcast is on a crusade to rid his homeland of its corruption.”

I'd be okay with his being bald.  It's different than what we've had so far.  I don't need hair on my LI, although I do prefer it.  That's why I'd rather the Grey Warden than Dorian.

But he's so... old.

I really don't want the grey warden to be an LI, for the sole reason that I cannot stand large age differences in love stories of any kind. I just always get the mental image of one of them still being 30-40ish and the other being in their fifties or sixties :shudder: . Grim. No matter how many redeeming qualities they gave him it could never change the fact that he's so oooollllldddddddddd.

I don't particuarly like baldness either but strangely enough I find both Jack from Mass Effect and what we've seen of this smirky Elf so far really attractive. I don't get it either.

Do me this favor.  Take a mental snapshot of this moment and then recall it when you are in your 40's (which is probably the oldest that the Grey Warden could be given the Calling).  Hopefully you will still have romance in your life when you are that oooollllddddddddd too!  :P

As a lifelong gamer (I've been playing console games since the early 80's on my parents Atari 2600!), I can totally appreciate that there might be some characters who aren't so young.  Especially given that the average age of a gamer is in their 30's!  I'm really happy that there characters in general seem older and that the guys, particularly given the topic of the thread, aren't so young.  Although Bioware does a pretty good job of not offering young guys all the time.  I'd love them to skew a bit older for once!

Agreed! That grey warden is the perfect candidate. And he's probably younger than Duncan, since he'll be a companion and therefor able to fight and not going on his calling (Duncan planned to go on his calling after the battle or something if I remember right).

On the topic of age, I can see where EJ is coming from. I'm only 18. I usually create a young looking and attractive, at least to me, character. I want to romance someone who is near or at least looks close to my character's age. I'm not that interested in romancing an older character, shallow as it is. I still think there should be an older option, however! I would just like a young one too! But hell, if the romance is done right I might even try it out! (If the Warden is a LI)

I don't have a problem with two 40's or over people in a relationship with each other. it's specifically age differences I said I didn't like.

I guess it depends how old the inquisitor is. If they are around 24 and this Grey warden is about 44 then that's more than my age in difference

im not sure about the Grey Warden dude being a love interest either, less because i dont want older men as LIs (quite the opposite in fact. Viggo Mortensen... <3) and more because i kind of hope he ends up being a more mentor sort of character.

Just remember that we have no idea at all how old the Inquisitor is supposed to be.  You claim around 24 but Hawke ended up much older than that by the end of DA 2.  I wouldn't be surprised if the Inquisitor is a bit older than the Warden was given the importance of the position and the age of the rest of the companions.  Cassandra, Varric's, and Vivienne are the only confirmed companions and they are all at least 30's.  Cullen, if included, would be as well.  I'm thinking the Inquisitor is going to be closer to 30 than 20, so a relationship with a man in his late 30's early 40's isn't really that far off.

I wasn't interested in older guys either.  Back in 1996, when I was 18.  Times change and someday, you young whippersnappers will thank us elderly gamers for fighting for the right to love an age appropriate guy in a video game!

My issue with Zevran's clear preference for females was that he was the only option for a m/m romance. I was really turned off by the fact that he often flirted with NPCs and the female party members while you were in a m/m romance with him. It made me feel like my warden was more into Zev than the other way around and I didn't like that.

I agree, I still liked Zev's romance and he turned out be very emotional and seemed to have fallen for the warden but having him flirt with women while in the romance sort of became a reminder that females were what he truly wanted.  It reminds me of those yaoi stories where the guys would claim how straight they are before hopping into bed with another guy. Those stories kind of irk me.  But I can also see how one can roleplay it as Zev truly falling their their male PC, a la the posted trope above :D

I wouldn't have minded it at all if there was another option. For example, I didn't love either Anders or Fenris either, but since there was an option, it made it easier to accept their flaws. I really loved Kaidan's romance in ME3. It was, by far, the most realistic and romantic option in any of the Bioware games. I hope that there is a m/m option like that: where the guy is a strong independent character who isn't relying on the PC to fix him.

I agree completely! Although I did like Fenris, thankfully. So far I have yet to experience the same level of m/m romance that was in ME with Kaidan. I so hope the devs are reading this thread, No more damaged LIs! I so want to romance Cullen and I don't care how old he is. the man still looks good. But then again if I could have traded Alistair for Duncan I would have in a heartbeat. But i did like Alistair's tank skills so I didn't have much of an issue romancing him. I just wanted to stitch his mouth shut whenever he talked about Duncan.

Sidenote: I actually went back and counted up the number of m/m romances in all of the Bioware games. Did you know that there were only 6 guys open for m/m romance EVER? Sky, Zevran, Anders, Fenris, Kaidan, and Steve. That's it! Crazy.

Only 6? wow. There are more than that in straight romances in ME alone. Well, better late than never. B)

Except Zevran never claims to be straight, he's bi.  He has a flirty personality, and someone with a female Warden would have similar issues wondering if he really wants those other women.  And I think that's understandable, but I don't feel like there's any indication that he's any less faithful or in love with a male Warden.

I'm curious if you want for them to go the realistic route and add hair on the characters like armpit hair and chest hair. I know some guys/girls prefer it shaved while some feels it makes the guy more manly. Since the graphic is becoming more realistic, so I feel like it's only a matter of time before they tries to make the character more realistic instead of genetic shaved body models we have so far.

I would love there to be body hair on the character models. And, of course, there could be variation between the characters if that made people happy. I really loved the hair on the male character model in Skyrim, so I'd love to see that in DA: I.

On a side note, there is a great m/m dating sim that is being developed independently that has chosen to include a body hair toggle that allows the PC to set the body hair for the male models. It's been a very popular decision on the development message board!

When making this post, I was just thinking it would be a bit out of place for the grey warden guy if he were a LI to have a completely shaved body with hairy face and hair. It's not that there's anything wrong with that, but I just feel that it would be natural for him to at least have some hair on his chest. While it's not important to me (I even prefer smooth body), it would be interesting if Bioware decide to add body hair to a certain LI. Hell, Varric already has dat chest hair. lol.

I have a mod in DA2 that gives the male model body hair, if only because the skin complexion looks weirdly shiny wihout it and out of place (and just plain weird for the default hawke due to his spectacular beard, which makes me think he'd had more body hair in general). I didn't mind the shaved body models in DAO though, so I think it depends on how the skin texture actually looks.

I don't think people would mind body hair. Varric's chest hair has a fan club all on its own.

They probably did that because the hair color in the cahracter creator would need to match the body hair color.  They would have to put body hair for all different types and that would not be worth the effort for Bioware.  Same reason Shepard has no body hair.

And since all humans use the exact same model...expect Mr. Warden guy to be an avid waxer.

I have no problem with my pc having an older man as a LI. It happens and if the character and romance is well written it shouldn't be a factor.

However, I also think there should be a younger option for those who don't share my sentiments.

if theyre both consenting adults then who cares? i mean if it grosses you out personally, whatever, more silver foxes for me i guess, but having a problem with people having age gaps in relationships period? thats pretty judgmental. as long as theyre consenting adults, their age gap isnt your business at all.

its only ok if theyre both over 40?? wow glad they have your permission

Considering this game has no body sliders, it's more than likely.  All games since the original Mass Effect have (with the exception of a few characters like James Vega) have used the same body model, what makes you think they will change anything now?

a completely different and way more complex engine i would imagine

really the reason i don't see them doing a whole lot in the way of body sliders is because itd make the game harder to animate. remember that gif of varric motorboating lady hawke?
