If he does something rash, it could ruin the romance somewhat for me. I romanced Anders and when he blew up the chantry, I want to scream "WTH, Anders?" to his face. I know that we shouldn't be influenced every action of the LI, but it just annoys me how Anders does stuffs behind my back sometimes. :pinched:

I, personally, loved that. As mad as I was, when companions (especially romances) step in and do things (even things I disagree with), I love that.

I don't know, maybe I'm weird. Rash behavior wouldn't stop me from romancing someone; they'd have to cross over into serious bastard territory before I considered ending a romance.

Though, as I suggested, I'm probably just weird.

I'm not really sure that he was described as "cute" either, but hey, who knows.

Cute until proven otherwise! That's the rule :P

Seriously, people who've read the book tell me I would not want him as a LI if I had read it, too, and I believe them. But I enjoy living in my fantasy world, which basically consists of imagining every character as cute and ripe for the romancing lol

Plus if Cullen proves to be our "manly warrior" LI then that means we'll need a cute guy, too. I have a feeling it won't be an elf. Don't ask me why; it's just a feeling. I'm thinking it will either be a snarky Tevinter mage or something fragile like Cole.

I like it, too. Now, I was spoiled about Anders, so he didn't surprise me. But I would have enjoyed the shock. What I thought could have been handled better was Hawke's reaction, specifically a ROMANCED Hawke's reaction.

I figure stuff like that doesn't bother me because I don't play myself as my character. It's more like I'm writing a story, with the PC as the main character.

Anyway... Would Cole be a good LIs though since he seems to be so unstable. :?

Since when was stability an indication of a good romance option?

Seriously. Qualities that make for a fulfilling real-life relationship are not necessarily things that make an engaging and thought-provoking fictional narrative.

My hesitation with Cole after reading Asunder is the ambiguousness of his (mental) age.  There are parts in the book where he seems very young (12 years or less), and very innocent.  And not innocent in the "Alistair, the blushing virgin"-way, but in the "I've been mentally stunted because of very serious, and very dark, things that have happened to me".  The Cole I met in Asunder is not a Cole I would jump into bed with.

That being said...only the writers know what will happen with his character in DA3.  At the end of Asunder it seems he went through a purging of sorts, when he realized what he truly was (a demon impersonating a human, rather than the actual human).  This might be the solution to the previously mentioned problem, but we'll have to wait & see.

It would make good storytelling for variation in romance option, but drama without happy ending just wasn't my thing, I suppose. Anders and Hawke become fugitive. . .

Really? I found that terribly enticing.

Hawke: Oh, Anders! We have fought the just fight, for the freedom of mages everywhere! But lo, we are persued! Quick, away, away! 'Tis the life of the outlaw for us! But our love shall see us through!

Though I understand how that could seem depressing to others.

Anon we shall be loves of freedom together!  Okay that was fantastic lol

I saw DA2 as a happy ending, too. Anders and Hawke left to fight the good fight, Fenris and Hawke left to retire in the woods somewhere, and Hawke and Isabela left to sail the seven seas.

lol none of the love interests in Dragon Age are anywhere close to mental stability. Morrigan and Alistair have severe mommy/daddy issues, Leliana either really hears voices in her head or has serious self-worth issues, Zevran was raised a prostitute/murderer from childhood, Isabela was sold to a pirate in lieu of becoming a slave under the Qun, Fenris was a slave and abused in every conceivable way, Merrill is transfixed with a mysterious object that killed one of her friends and tainted another to the point of making deals with demon friends to fix it, Sebastian has a bad case of avoidant personality disorder, and Anders... is Anders.

We can absolutely expect all the LIs in DA:I to be quite... special. :P

Well I HAVE read the book and still find Cole absolutely ADORABLE. But then again, I think dragons and hurlocks are cute too. And rage demons. They remind me of a turtle I had as a child. A very ANGRY turtle. XP

Honestly I don't care if Cole is a love intrest or even a companion, (though I would DEFINETLY not disapprove!) the only thing that matters is that I do at some point get to HUG THE LIFE out of the poor thing! T-T He moves my inner mother hen.

Yeah that's what people who've read Asunder tell me, and obviously, if that proves to be the case, I would not want to "romance" such a person since it would be akin to sexual assault/molestation IMO... (like "romancing" a child).

I guess it depends on how you want your romance to be. An imperfect romance such as Anders is not a bad romance. I guess it depends on how you want your romance to be. It would make good storytelling for variation in romance option, but drama without happy ending just wasn't my thing, I suppose. Anders and Hawke become fugitive, Jacob cheated, Thane died. All these romances have very gloom outcome, and on subsequent playthrough, I just feel discourage to romance them since I know that the PC and the LIs won't have a happy ending together. I care more about whether the romance would last rather than the progression of that romance.

You miss the entire point of a story if all you care about is how it ends.

I have a total of eight save games that, Bioware willing, I'll be importing into DA:I; I don't usually play myself, either. I do, however, usually play as myself or close to myself for my first run-through, when I'm super reactionary.

I guess that makes me a crappy roleplayer, but I'm a lot better able to decide how my character is feeling and what's motivating them when I, the player, aren't blindsided by something that just happened and I'm still hung up over it.

It would even be more ironic if Hawke sided with templars and convinced Anders to fight for him. Even if they make it through, I would imagine that Anders would have some sort of resentment toward Hawke.

I would be okay if Anders and Hawke found a quite place and settle down eventually, but a restless life of running may seem good on paper but would be very exhausting. I'm the type who imagine what kind of life the PC, and by extension LI, has after the ending. Anders seems to be the only romance option for me. I just can't romance Fenris since he's a real jerk.

That's MY problem when we're discussing him in the context of love interests, ha.  It 's too 'To Catch A Predator'.
However, his revelation at the end of Asunder has the ptoential to lead him to very interesting places and I'm excited to interact with him, LI or not.

Cullen, of course, is a big draw, and my first playthrough will be as a mage (and I like the mage/templar duality)...but something says he won't be my main choice.

IMO the only thing that makes one a craapy role-player is if you're a dick on the BSN lol! :P

I always want to give Cole a hug while reading the book (As long as he doesn't kill me). I always have this fixation for my PC to be the one who "fixes" him, but it would not be good story-telling if the PC can influence every aspect of the LI. I'm not saying no to Cole romance, it could be interesting to see how he perceived affection.

I'd be thrilled if Cole was available as a non-intimate LI i.e more akin to a really close friendship than an actual romance. I'd gladly take that over Cullen or "Tevinter Magister".

Please don't trivialize rape by falsely accusing videogame characters of committing it every time one of them has the audacity to (gasp!) express interest in you.

Alright, I shouldn't have implied that it's romantic no matter how it ends. And I never imagined them wandering forever; I assumed that at some point, Hawke and Anders would join up with some sort of mage resistance.

Unless, you know, Hawke sided with the templars. In which case, again, fair point.

Okay, it wasn't depressing to me. But I see how you could feel disheartened.

Fenris fell for my mage (and pro-mage) Hawke.  He isn't so bad, but it took some careful planning for a full friendmance.  Anders did not understand that.

My Amell had a thing for Cullen and Alistair, too.  It's just too fun to pair my mages with the Templar or pro-Templar types for the drama.  I hope for more opportunities like this (Cullen again!)

I felt this more about Kaidan than Liara (playing as a female character).  Even if you turn Kaidan down in ME and are romancing someone else in ME3 he still asks you if you are interested in him unless you are "locked in" to your romance  In the playthrough I did when I romanced Garrus i found it a bit annoying that Kaidan would think I would go for him when I was plainly with Garrus- Even Tali knew we were together- but because I wasn't "locked in' he still propsitioned me.  I told him years ago I wasn't inerested- and I still wasn't- can't the guy take a hint.

(sorry, lost this in the shuffle)

I absolutely feel you on this one, ME1's romances are all tricky like that. I make a point to never ask personal questions to Kaidan/Ashley if I'm playing a gay Shep anymore, as they seem to assume you're in love with them just for asking how they're doing. I only singled Liara out because her stalking goes above and beyond Ash's or Kaidan's continued interest in you (she actually fetches your dead body and hands it to Cerberus to resurrect you), she also got significantly longer and better romance material than any other LI in the trilogy, making the game's preference for her even more obvious. Also the blue babies. If I felt invaded with the Dark Ritual, the blue babies just. Wow.

(Caveat that I do enjoy the Liara romance a great lot when I'm actually romancing her. It's just when I'm not, I really wish she would just... stop.)

Going seriously off-topic in the DA forums tho, so stopping here.
