Uploaded the mod. I don't know if I'll work further on this.
This mod will only work 100% properly for Kaidan romancing femSheps.
Will work for mSheps too, but obviously the extra vid will remain the same.

This is an in-game capture of my modded ending.
Obviously, it was customized for my Kaidan-romancing femShep - but I made the extra vid in such a way that it could hopefully be enjoyed by other players.

Unfortunately, the extra part came as really too dark, and also, I had to change framerate at some point, so it’s a bit shorter than initially intended, i.e. it’s not 100% properly synched with the sound. However, it’s a
pretty accurate preview of the intent of the mod.

Hopefully, I will soon remake a brighter and “slower” version of the new “scene”. It would only require a few tweaking really, but the recompiling process is somewhat tedious.

Also, my apologies for the ugly normal texture on Kaidan’s arms :P - this is still unfinished work :D
Currently, the mod works perfectly except for:
- a short sound of the original breath remains just before the credits,
- after the “legend” window, the game doesn’t go back on the Normandy.



I'll just add that this is the only way I found to actually have the feeling to have beaten the game.
Right now, I feel I'm somewhat done with ME - until we have more news of the DLC that is.

What it does:
//////////////

  • uses pre-EC ending,
  • moves the Breath Scene from after Jungle Planet to before Jungle Planet with edited sound (actually it's not exactly true technically, but I hope to find a better solution in another version),
  • adds a few seconds that shows Shepard being found again by Kaidan - this part is way too dark atm, I need to make this look brighter, also to reduce framerate for the animation),
  • mods Jungle Planet to have Kaidan come out of the Normandy first, then Shepard, then the usual 3rd squadmate (wanted Shepard first but couldn't make it),
  • changes the Stargazers vid a bit (last seconds).

What I'd like to improve or may add in another version:

  • edit the extra vid that looks way too dark,
  • use part of a "bad" ending vid in EC where you see a Marine looking through rubbles and finding a burnt helmet,
  • maybe use a scene in Med Bay where Kaidan carries Shepard to the bed,
  • actually mod the sequence to jump to the breath vid after the Normandy breaks down,
  • assign the part for the squadmate that comes out of the Normandy as a dynamic instance (=LI) > I really wanted to have LI but it's actually only Kaidan that comes out of the Normandy - of course, it could be possible to make as many versions of the files as there are possible characters there -_- but it's a "dirty" solution and I don't like dirty.
In the future, if my motivation is intact, and with the help of the
wonderful people at ME3Explorer, maybe I'll be able to actually add an
actual cutscene instead of a recorded one in place of that rescue part.

Mimitochan: Take seriously the idea of a combined ending when this grows up.

I mean, perhaps you and MrFob can make a variety of endings depending on decisions.

Hey! Well Mr. Fob (and his tutorials) helped me a great deal. I would never ever have been able to do this without his help, or without WarrantyVoider & co.

I think we're pretty clear atm on what can or cannot be done, but it's moving really fast at the moment indeed!

I personally would love to make this a 100% real-time mod, that wouldn't need heavy customization, but we're far from there atm.

So we'll see if I still have the motivation to extend on this. But really, this is almost a perfect ending for me, I mean based on pre-EC, which is far better than EC imo.

interestingly enough, I asked about the state of this as well (concerning real time animation manipulation and the like) here is what CPT Fob had to say:

@Bierwichtel: The current version of the ME3Explorer has an interface with ue3 assets. I haven't used it myself so I am not sure to what extend it works (warrentyvoider will have that info, I think he made it) but I think right now it's more meant for lower level assets.
The only thing I can tell you for shure is that kismet and matinee structures are preserved rather well but there are countless minor changes (e.g. there are heaps of customised and new objects in the sequences and I think the dialogue system is completely custom made. Also, ME3 uses athor licensed middleware as well, such as wwise for sound and music. Not sure about the actual level architecture (I am not a ue3 buff, never worked with it before starting to mod me3 and just read stuff in the last 6 months or so) but I think there is still quite a bit of work to be done to enable anything like a global import."

Ditto on the idea of collaboration.  I think MrFob's MEHEM mod is pretty darn good (and getting better by the day), but one thing it definitely lacks is original footage, since MrFob pretty much just uses in-game assets.  For example, one thing the MEHEM mod doesn't have is a scene showing the crew physically rescuing shepard...which is something you seem to have the ability to create.  If you two combined forces, well, I think that could result in something pretty great.

Anyways, just my two cents.  Carry on - I'm looking forward to seeing how this mod turns out.

The thing is, MEHEM is really a different take on the ending.
I really wanted mine to be simple, short and suggestive, and for it to keep some part of magic in here.
I chose to take the exact opposite direction than that of EC which expanded on a number of themes and scenes I really didn't care about or even worse, basically ruined the intensity of the original content.

Some people also suggested I use Joker+EDI on green Jungle Planet, but I purposely did not use that.

Rather than write a WoT on the subject of the endings, I chose to offer this to BioWare and to other players :)

Can you go into more detail about how you used Mass Effect 3 explorer? I've been using it for a while, but I haven't figured out how to replace Joker with Kaidan, etc. I know how to swap NPCs around in the memorial scene, but the same method doesn't seem to work for the normandy crash.

Really good. :) My only real critique is the timing of events seem a little odd. I find myself wondering how Kaiden and Shepard even got on to the Normandy, if Kaiden is searching the rubble after the Crucible blows up/the Normandy escapes.

Still, very nice, simple, and emotional scene.

I re-uploaded the mod in case somebody wants to try it. I haven't done any major change though.

@movieguy: thank you very much :) I like that there's a lot that's not said or shown there - there's room for interpretation, while I think it's believable - well, as believable as the rest of the game, I guess :)

Hey, how come I just found this mod?? I'm certainly going to give it a go later when I reach home. I've got 'nth Shepards and every one of them romanced Kaidan X_x' (I try not to, believe me, I try.....)

Out of curiosity: did you repurpose the VS-scene animation from the end of Mars for Shepard's pickup there? If so, would other character-combinations be feasible there, like, say, Williams picking Shepard up?

I suppose it beats my idea for a mod, where Shepard goes up the beam, and then the final 15 minutes of the Matrix revolutions plays out. Because, ya know, the stories are totally unconnected, AIs taking over organics and farming them, pfft!

Yes I did, and absolutely, actually, that scene could probably be modded to have any combination featuring Shepard, Ash, Kaidan, James, Liara, and probably EDI.

Actually, I thought about making other versions, or a general version for non-Kaidanmancers, with EDI carrying Shepard and/or EDI on Jungle Planet.

But given the time and efforts it took me and what little response I got with that mod, I couldn't see myself doing that.
This mod is not 100% what I wanted it to be, but it's good enough for me.

In any case, I'm currently lost in DA goodiness and I doubt I'll come back to ME3 other than for MP :P

I have no idea what you meant by that comment, nor what your intent was.
Matrix was bad though.

That's correct, you'd need to uninstall MEHEM first.

Honestly, really good work...since you were saying you didn't get a lot of feedback.

I find BioWare's ending(s) particularly atrocious and applaud anyone's effort in doing the job that they were supposed to do. Yours is one of the better ones so it was worth it!

Hey thanks a bunch! 
Oh does that mean you did try it yourself? Or is that just an impression from the vid?
I was mainly curious to hear people's reactions upon playing it, but as you said, I didn't get much feedback, so I couldn't see myself working on this any further.

Just to make that clear, my intention wasn't to force anyone to romance Kaidan as female :D
